Many people don't know about Fairview Park. It's a great little "hidden gem" in Cincinnati. I love to run through the park, it's a relatively flat and shady ~1.5 miles. The harder part of the run is going up/down the enormous hill leading into the park. They offer a nice playground for kids, basketball courts, a soccer field, and a baseball diamond (the latter two are a tad beat up, but still serve their purpose). The best part about the park is the panoramic views. There are TWO. One breathtaking view of Downtown & OTR, and the other of the train station & Union Terminal. Both so fantastic. I love to come down here on the Fourth of July and watch the Fireworks throughout the city. People post up there all day & cook out and it's a fun experience. I wouldn't recommend going at night by yourself, it can be a little sketchy (especially the road parts with no park-features) and safety might be a concern. During the day it's completely fine, with many families and people from the surrounding neighborhood hanging out with their kids & dogs. Highly recommend a visit if you've never been before. If you live in the Clifton area, make it a part of your jog!

There are basketball courts, an open field, two lookout areas toward downtown and the trainyards, and some interesting older remnants of the stair paths that dotted the hillside connecting the neighborhoods to the areas below back in the day. A few of the stair paths are left, and they produce an almost otherworldly feel as they stretch as far down as you can see toward the trainyards. It's a quiet, peaceful park that's essentially a long one-way driveway.

The space…read moreis very big and open within a gated area which provides several different jungle gyms for all ages. It sounds like a wonderful idea for older kids that can handle all heights, twists and turns. But for the younger kids, it's stressful. Why? Because what toddler doesn't want to climb 15 feet high on the smallest width ladder at the playground? Yes, there's smaller gyms for the toddlers up front but I always see the young ones running for the huge gym which just stresses me out. I'd honestly skip this park if you're with your 1-4 year old. For older kids, this looks like the real deal. It's clean, there's a big covered picnic area, swings galore. I believe you do have to pay sometimes but I really don't know. Each time I've been, the gate has been open and we walked right in. Other times, I believe they close the gate and you have to pay at the building. Highly recommend calling ahead of time or looking online. Clean, safe, fun overall!

If the water is standing,"sunken Lunken" is a good place to watch the river rise, planes takeoff and to just "people watch". There is a bike loop, playgrounds, driving range, tennis courts, picnic shelter and a couple of ball fields. Plenty of places to park and eat your lunch. There is even a bar/restaurant and Farmer's Market on the weekends. In the old tower, you can check out their museum but get there before 2pm. Apparently, I missed it. I will be back!

There are at least three other playgrounds in the neighborhood. While it's proximity is one of its perks, I also prefer it just because it's got a lot of options for my two little ones. It's suits them both very well - one a wild four year old boy and the other only a recently walking 23 month old. They offer the parent-baby joint swing, the large plastics swings meant for toddlers, multiple climbing structures of various sizes, a little "elevator" as we've called it, a few slides a large structure that spins around. Very cool! Perfect place to come with a picnic and play. Afterwards, walk down the street for a scoop of ice cream!

It is well maintained with beautiful landscaping. I have seen the neighbors helping to keep it that way by weeding the flower beds and picking up any trash. Not that I ever see much trash. It has a charming old fashion water fountain. This past Saturday my grandkids age 2 and 4 years old really needed a drink of water. We filled the bottle up several times. There is a metal picnic table. You are surrounded by flowers as this park has so many flowerbeds. There's a long swing set with swings for everyone old & young and small and large. There are 2 jungle gyms with multiple slides, several ways to climb up and interactive activities like a telescope and metallic beads on a spinning wheel. The small curving foot pad staircase is a favorite of my granddaughter. With bars for swinging on, a beam to walk across and 2 domes for climbing on top of this park can keep the children happy for hours. The only problem might be getting them to head back home! There is only one issue with the equipment. The footpad elevator ride from the platform of the larger jungle gym to the ground is broken. The neighborhood is always nice and peaceful. Also #udf is just up the street for a treat of #icecream. I more than highly recommend this park in #northside. Until next time be kind to each other. @yelpcincy #playgrounds #cincinnati
