I highly recommend Shanee and am so fortunate that Shanee took me and my baby as a client despite being so fully booked. I am a second time mom but the first time navigating the tongue tie world with my second baby. Shanee is absolutely amazing. I had my first baby this November and he had some signs of a tongue and lip tie and lots of tension. There aren't enough words to describe how amazing Shanee is. I have 6 kids and I've always had problems with engorgement, clogged ducts, latching, etc. so having support from an LC isn't new. With baby number 6, I wasn't sure I wanted to see Shanee because I've seen so many LCs before and didn't think I would learn anything new. However, my daughter clicked so much and she was the fussiest out of all of my children. So with the encouragement of our chiro, I decided to book an appointment. She helped asses my daughter for ties and recommended a wonderful pediatric dentist to perform the revisions. Her protocol for wound care treatment is the most thorough and comprehensive I have seen (I've experienced 3 children having revisions in total). She helped me with breastfeeding positions, techniques to improve my daughter's latch, exercises to perform to help my daughter release tension, and so much more. And each time after our appointment, we'd get better and better with breastfeeding. To say that Shanee is THE BEST LC I have ever met is an understatement. She is so knowledgeable but what I love the most is that she continues to educate herself in her field, going to conferences and reading articles/studies. Honestly, if you're having rough experience with your baby's latch, breastfeeding, whether your little ones cranky, "colicky", or you're having a rough time nursing , I 100% recommend Shanee. I wish we went to her with our first daughter - I gave up nursing after 5 months because it was difficult for myself and my daughter. I had 0 clue on what I was doing. My daughter had a tongue and lip tie and it was such a struggle! I was lost and had 0 support. My husband also had no idea with how to support through this time. The lactation consultant we saw with my first daughter was no help. We spend a ton of money on appointments and just lost faith and believed truly that that was it and our BF journey ended. If it wasn't for Shanee I would not be breastfeeding my daughter today at 7 months. I was recommended to her by my doula when we discovered my one-month-old baby had multiple oral ties. I was exclusively pumping up until that point and dreamed about being able to breastfeed. My baby was not able to latch for more than a few seconds. I followed all of her recommendations regarding prep work and after care for the frenectomy. I found my newborn had a tongue tie and breastfeeding was excruciating! I would cry every time he latched for an entire 6 weeks. My poor babe also had really bad gas and was always crying to eat (would nurse for an hour and a half at a time). I've seen Shanee for both of my babies. She is definitely the best and most knowledgeable IBCLC/lactation consultant in the area! I saw the hospital LCs both times and thought they were good. However, when I went for consults with Shanee, she blew them out of the water. Her depth of assessment, knowledge, treatment, and true caring for my journey is unlike what I've experienced before in health care. She is obviously extremely dedicated to her patients. I've even texted her in off hours and she always gets back to me. With my first baby, I struggled A LOT with breastfeeding (and being a new mom). Shanee helped guide and teach me, now he's tandem nursing with his baby sister at 2.5 years old. He's far exceeded my breastfeeding goal when I was just trying to make it to 6 months. My daughter was born tongue tied. Shanee worked sooo much magic helping get her ready for her tongue tie release. Other providers (chiropractor, dentist, etc) obviously respect her a lot. Everytime I mentioned we were seeing her, they all told me how she is the best and I was in good hands. My daughter's tongue tie release went beautifully. I could not be more grateful to Shanee. I had a terrible experience with Shanee. I made an appointment with her because my son unlatches frequently during feeding and I wanted to know what to do when I get a clogged duct. I felt very uncomfortable during our appointment and felt extremely judged and belittled. I was immediately uncomfortable when I arrived and felt that there was barely an introduction before she took my baby out of his car seat and jumped in without explaining what she would be doing and instead just somewhat explaining as she was already doing it. It made me feel out of control and that there wasn't much regard for my comfort or his. This is a horrible feeling for any mom. There were also a few times that she put her fingers on his face and mouth without gloves on. There isn't a sink in the room so her hands were definitely not washed in between clients - she may have used sanitizer but it really doesn't matter since you should never put bare hands at anyone's mouth, let alone a newborn's mouth. I felt very judged about things that are completely unrelated to breastfeeding. She made comments about how I burped him, medications prescribed by his pediatrician, talked negatively about our pediatrician (who we really like and carefully chose for our son), suggested delaying vaccines if we did a tongue/lip tie revision in order to prioritize the revision (and said vaccines cause gut issues), said my son had a flat head (he doesn't and no pediatrician we've seen has ever said that either), that I shouldn't swaddle, use a bouncer or swing, made comments about our car seat being incorrect and proceeded to take over buckling my son and adjusting his car seat (I did not ask for her input or help and his car seat was checked at the police station - when I said that, she further questioned when we had it checked), mentioned that my epidural and pitocin during delivery impacted my gut which affected my son, grabbed items in my stroller and diaper bag rather than asking me to take them out or for permission to get something. I felt very powerless and vulnerable. Shanee was insensitive, condescending, and unkind. I acknowledge that I reached out to Shanee directly about this and she apologized and expressed that this was not her intention. Hopefully she will be more mindful in the future after hearing my feedback. read more

This is a long overdue review. Shanee is such a well educated, kind individual, and that carries into her business. Shanee helped to identify a tongue tie on my son, after I was told that it wasn't a big deal by others. Once the tie was identified, we were directed to a provider in which Shanee was able to push up our appointment date by weeks, with said provider. Just to make sure my son could transfer milk properly. I went from triple feeding, with a nipple shield, to only breastfeeding with no shield. She will weigh baby before and after feed, I loved seeing just how much my son took in. She tells you everything and she assesses, she really walks your journey with you. We were sad when we didn't have a need to see Shanee, she really becomes a friend, as well as a supporter of you and your child. read more

My daughter and I came to Shanee with a litany of issues: colic, severe reflux, complications from tongue and lip ties, and nipple confusion which turned into food aversion, just to name the chief complaints. Shanee has been the most practical, educated, and connected godsend! Every mom needs a Shanee in her life to lean on from time to time and she is the absolute best. I know she is abnormally skilled, cause I have literally been to a dozen lactation consultants and while they offered sympathies and a few tips for our pathetic situation, NO ONE provide the 24/7 support and SOLUTIONS like Shanee. Shanee has been a blessing to our family. We came to Shanee with our 9 week old son who was having weight gain issues, extreme tension, and refusing to eat. He was screaming and crying the majority of the day. Because of all of this, we unfortunately weren't able to continue our breastfeeding journey. Our pediatrician kept telling us that is was just "colic" but our guts told us that there was more to it. We were desperate and felt helpless. From my very first text conversation with Shanee, she already started to make a difference. She told me to try a different bottle and different formula. That night our son ate an entire 4 oz bottle for the first time without screaming and refusing. This Mama broke down in tears, in 2 hours Shanee had already given us hope and our son some relief. Our first in person appointment with Shanee was the following week. Our son had already started gaining the recommended daily weight just in the first week of following her recommendations via text, but he still wasn't latching correctly. When we got into office, Shanee was able to identify that Rhett had both a lip and tongue tie and referred us to a Cranial Sacral Therapist to start body work to relieve some tension before our scheduled Frenectomy. Our next appointment was post frenectomy and our boy was doing awesome! We were starting to see less tension in his neck and shoulders, he was able to hold a latch and drink his bottles. He was gaining weight at the recommended rate and he was an entirely different baby. We went from having a baby who screamed about 22 hours a day, who refused to eat, who was always uncomfortable to a baby who has now has started to laugh and who is always happy. Here we are at 4 months old and our baby boy is so happy, so healthy, and is climbing up that weight chart like a champ. Without Shanee we would still be lost. She has been amazing every step of the way. I can text her anytime and she's always there for me with any question or concerns that we have. I am so happy that our boy is thriving and has graduated out of her care, but I will truly miss that love and support Shanee has shown our family. I wish we would found her sooner so that we could have possibly saved our breastfeeding journey. She truly cares for these babies and I would recommend her a million times over. read more

I will forever be grateful for Shanee! She's done so much for my baby and I and still continues to support us. I had major supply issues and my baby had oral ties. With Shanee's help not only was I able to get my supply back (it was basically gone) but she also referred us to a dentist to get his ties released and gave us so much knowledge on how to do his stretches so nothing reattaches. I've had 3 tongue tied babies, on my third and final baby I found Shanee. Wow is all I can say! I did a pre baby visit and felt so confident after. I am 10WPP - our breastfeeding journey wouldn't be a success without the help of Shanee. She is passionate- to help moms with breastfeeding issues. If you want to continue your breastfeeding and/or pumping journey, just go see her. After a traumatic postpartum experience, I was in tears daily wanting to throw in the towel and opt for formula. After seeing a handful of lactation consultants through either Kaiser or my work, I went to Shanee as a final attempt. I walked away from our appointment a little more hopeful. She gave me the tools to continue exclusively pumping including getting the appropriate flange size and stopping my mastitis scares. SOMEHOW despite the obstacles- with Shanee's support and recommendations, I not only was able to continue exclusively pumping but we did a 180 to primarily nursing when he was about 4.5 months. Shanee recognizes the various nuances at play for both the mom and baby, and creates a very individualized plan for them. Prior to seeing Shanee, I doubted I could keep my baby on my milk through the winter, now my goal has definitely extended beyond that. Shanee genuinely cares for babies and moms. Just go. Hands down, the BEST lactation consultant in all of the Sacramento area. Shanee is a pro with children & helped make me feel more comfortable with our breastfeeding journey. She sent detailed emails, covering what was discussed during the consult. She checked in after & encouraged me to reach out if I was still having problems or had any questions (which I did.. new mama here with LOTS of questions). She helped identify tongue & lip ties on our sweet girl. After having those released, she helped with the stretches. We ended up seeing her 3 times - initial consult, a 2nd time when I was still having oversupply issues, and a 3rd after getting ties released. I have no doubt that she saved our breastfeeding journey. Breastfeeding is such an amazing experience. I'm so grateful we didn't waste precious time & saw Shanee as soon as we realized something wasn't right. Shanee is amazing! I decided to seek out her help because my son was nursing for an hour and it didn't seem like he was gaining a lot of weight. She identified him with a tongue tie and referred me a great dentist to get it released. She has helped me with understanding how to do the stretches correctly to make sure reattachment didn't occur. She is very knowledgeable and is quick to respond when I ask her any questions. She is kind hearted and very supportive and she wants the best for mom and baby. I definitely recommend seeing Shanee with any of your concerns about breastfeeding your baby! One of the biggest mistakes I have ever made is trusting Shanee with advice on my 27 week preemie baby. I was warned prior to our appointment that Shanee is extreme and to take everything with a grain of salt, but extreme is an understatement. She is incredibly pushy about everything being her way or the highway and SO judgmental if you don't do everything exactly as she says. I wish I would have listened to the red flags before she crossed the line and caused an unbearable amount of pain to my baby without my consent. Post tongue tie release, she went into my baby's mouth and didn't explain what she saw or ask if I consent to what she was about to do. She fully ripped my baby's tongue. My baby screamed in unbearable pain for a week. She wouldn't eat for 8-12 hour increments and motrin barely took away any pain. I couldn't even go back in her mouth to do the stretches for over 24 hours and the tongue partially reattached during that period. The pain after seeing Shanee was 100 times worse than after the actual procedure. Shanee instructed that I needed to have my baby sleep on my chest to monitor her closely when discussing the amount of pain she was in. She was contradicting herself telling me it's all normal (although the doctor said it was not normal to go that long without eating) and then also was saying she's never seen a baby in this much pain. I would did not consent to Shanee performing this on my baby and I wouldn't have even if she had asked me- I would have had the dentist laser it more.The worst part is that Shanee shows zero remorse for her actions and it makes me sick to think about any other baby going through this read more

This is a belated but much needed review. I am so lucky to have met and utilized Shanee's expertise and service. Before I had my daughter, I reached out to her by text and she was so responsive and said she'd be here when I needed her. Turns out I needed her since I had trouble breastfeeding first few days. Was feeding 15 times a day with a lot of pain and damage to myself. She immediately identified the tongue tie issue what 1 out of 2 lactation specialists and pediatrician was not able to identify and set us up with same day appointment with pediatric dentist with specific expertise on cold laser procedure to release it. She was very professional and weighed the baby before and after feeds in a scientific way to know if baby was feeding efficiently. I cannot express how much Shanee helped me and our baby and our breastfeeding journey. Our baby had oral ties that were undetected at birth and nursing was incredibly painful and each session was taking my daughter a very long time. Something didn't seem right to me so I contacted Shanee she saw me within 24 hrs and immediately diagnosed the oral ties and put me on a pumping program and supplements to get my milk supply up. My baby was born at 32 weeks and spent 6 weeks in the NICU. After her discharge - our pediatrician recommended we see Shanee. I am so grateful that we found her. Her help allowed me to go from barely making enough breast milk for one meal each day to providing over half my baby's needs. I had almost given up. I had been injured (which is why my baby was born early) - so the combination of injury, early birth, and NICU stay made it almost impossible to breast feed. I got minimal help in the hospital. The NICU nurses were somewhat helpful - but their primary role was taking care of the neonates (as it should be). So - I went 6 weeks postpartum without the type of direction or support I needed. My family was so fortunate to be referred to Shanee. She helped so much. Her knowledge and advice were crucial to getting us back on track.
