We heard about Falafel Scoop on a interview on CBC R1 and decided to try it out. I have not had falafel and authentic food like this since my time in North Africa. There is a slight local/family manner in which some of the items are prepared but that is just fine; I have never had the sam fish chowder from two different areas, families or houses. The first time we went se had SAJ Falafel, Fattoush and potatoes and it was sooooo good. While there we saw families having a traditional breakfast and I knew I had to go back. I called a friend and made a breakfast date for this AM and introduced him to something very new and delicious. Foul (pronounced fool or full) which is lava beans, eggplant hummus, falafel, pita, SAJ and Turkish coffee. I will be back!

I am originally from Israel so I know how to spot a good falafel and this is a GREAT falafel. Yes, it comes in the thin version of the pita they sell here and not the fun pocket-pita which you can fill with all the good stuff BUT the falafel is great they do not cheapen on the tahini sauce when making it, and although its a bit pricey it is a taste of home and a super yummy falafel. So far this is the best falafel in Ottawa

For us modest appetites, this is easily 3 meals - easily! We ordered 2 plates and a sandwich for 4 people and still had enough leftovers for a small breakfast the morning after. My personal favorite was the mixed shawarma plate. I love how it comes with pita made specifically for Shawarma Palace, rice, potatoes, salad, pickled veg, and the meat. We also got the mixed kabob plate which featured tender beef but the chicken kabob was just a hair bit dry. The falafel sandwich was actually very dry and I would not recommend this. We also picked up some baklava for dessert after and I liked how it was just sweet enough! You can taste the pistachios and I thought the kiss of rose water was just enough to make the bite memorable!

My husband got the chicken and beef platter. It came with rice, salad, potatoes, hummus, garlic sauce, and a sesame dressing. Everything was so fresh and the flavor was just out of this world. We got a pita on the side and made our own wraps. The platter works for two people, maybe even 3. Depends on how hungry you are. They give you a generous portion. We walked in and there was only one other customer. And then after we sat down sooooooo many people filed in. The restaurant is very clean and lots of room to sit inside. The employees are very friendly and they do not skimp on the sauces or the meat. We were thoroughly satisfied and can't wait to return for another vacation in Canada.

I had heard of Falafel on Wheels (which is a food truck) but never got around to trying it because…read morethey are usually on Montreal Rd near Blair, which is not an area I'm usually in. So I was thrilled when I heard that they would be providing the food for one of our work functions. They came on site, so the food was freshly made to order. I had the falafel sandwich and a fattouch salad. The falafels in the sandwich were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. So delicious. It also had tomatoes, radishes, pickles, parsley and tahini, all wrapped in a pita. Easily one of the best falafel I've had in Ottawa. My only complaint is that it was a bit on the small side. Ok for small appetites, but likely too small for average to large appetites, and I definitely fall into the latter category, haha. The fattouch salad had romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, parsley, and radishes, all tossed in an oil and vinegar dressing with sumac. I think they usually have pita chips, but mine didn't have any :( It was a little overdressed for my liking, but I like very little dressing on my salad. Service was relatively quick and was friendly. Not sure when I'll be in their usual neighbourhood next, but when I am, I'll need to grab another falafel sandwich ;)
