"I am going to take you for the best falafel of your life." That's what my friend said when I told her I was visiting Montreal. She arranged it so my last meal before my flight home was at Falafel St Jacques and I'm so, so glad she did because it was honestly one of the best things I ate during my last visit to the city! And, yes, it may *actually* be the best falafel I've had in my life (so far, anyway). The place is VERY small; they expect their customers to make decisions and order VERY fast. So be prepared for that. I was not. I felt like I didn't have enough time to take everything in (like: there's this entire glass case of glorious salads... I definitely would have gotten some potato salad and some of the vegetarian orange ginger chicken if I had been able to process what was going on and ask what was in the case as nothing was labeled). My dining companion had my back though... She ordered us: 1. Falafel Pita "all dressed" and spicy (this doughy pita was overloaded with an abundance of flavorful, moist falafel and a whole bunch of other stuff... hummus? tahini? cucumbers? tomatoes? red and white cabbage? love? I couldn't eat it all but I tried so desperately to because it was just. so. darn. good.). I ordered us: 2. Baked House Potatoes (you know the kind: they look like little wedges and have a nice brown, spiced coating on the outside, and are all fluffy on the inside? Well, when we first walked into the restaurant there was a dad and a young daughter eating at a table and they must have overheard me ask my friend what I should get. He quickly interjected that I *had* to get the potato wedges and then forced me - in the friendliest way possible - to try some of his. So that's how that magic happened). The place is busy, busy, busy. People are constantly streaming in and out of here, so my advice to you newcomers is this: look at the menu beforehand, go in, shout your order as quickly as possible, grab it the literal moment it's ready (and not a second after), and head out. The interior itself gives the impression of a fast food , hipster joint that's always packed full of people, and contains a varied menu of tasty treats. The greatest element of this place is that everything is fully vegan, as impossible as that is to believe with items such as General Tao chicken on their menu, so caters to any individuals tasebuds. I ordered the falafel pitta with the wedges and mint lemonade. The pitta itself was packed full of falafel, salad, hummus and more, making it well worth the price (which is incredibly reasonable) and really filling! I couldn't even finish mine! As much as I used to love this place & gave it a 5 star two years ago, my experience today seemed to have gone downhill. I had the falafel plate which came with 4 falafels and a choice of three salads. The falafel didn't taste the same, the salads were so-so. I've had this spot on my list for some time but just recently ate there for the first time. I had heard a lot of good things about Falafel St-Jacques and I'm pleased to say that they completely lived up to the hype!! They offer a great selection of vegan middle eastern fare. Thee pittas are light and fluffy and the portions are extremely generous. The quality of the food is excellent. They have a small outdoor terrace that can accommodate a few small groups in a covid friendly manner. We have really enjoyed everything that we've tried and although everything is vegetarian it is done so well you never feel like you are missing out on anything. After hearing and seeing so many raved-about reviews of this place, we finally made it a point to stopover whilst on our way to the airport. I have to say, I am soooo gutted that this place is super far for us South-Shorers. Honestly, it was any closer, I would be here at least once a week!! The place was buzzing with a little line-up and everyone there seemed to be regulars, with their orders at the tip of their tongue. I however, didn't know where to start - having not expected such a variety of options, I could not decide on what to have! From Vegetarian General Tao, Shish Taouk, Shawarma and of course, the beloved Falafels and more - I had to make sure that it would be love at first bite! Finally, as I had been anticipating falafels all day, I played it safe and went for a Falafel Pita Sandwich with fries... ohh boy, was it heavenly! The pita was huuuge with lots of fresh crunchy salad and flavourful falafels all drizzled in a delicious tahini sauce... I didn't think I would be able to finish it but it was too good to put down! Omg the BEST FALAFEL IN MONTREAL! This place is the west end's best kept secret. Israeli style falafel packed with Veges (Spicy option) is my personal favourite, but everything they serve is delicious and vegan. They have lots of side dishes and various faux meats. Oh my god! This is falafel heaven! I had heard so much about this place but never had the chance to try it out all these years because of how far the location is from me. I finally ended up trying this place out, and I'm very impressed. Their falafels are crispy on the outside, and mushy on the inside, just as they should be (if you're used to the typical Amir's, boustans, fast food falafels, you are missing out BIG TIME on what proper falafel should taste like. Falafel St-Jacques has some of the best vegetarian and vegan food in Montreal. Despite the restaurant being in a random spot in Lachine, I've been in person once and enjoyed their delivered food twice. While they are known for their falafel, I fell in love with their spicy thai eggplant salad, thick pita bread, and potato wedges served with spicy harissa and tahini dips. Don't get me wrong, their salad bar, phyllo pastries, falafel, hummus, etc., are all delicious but getting someone like me (who doesn't necessarily like eggplant) to become obsessed with it is something worth noting. It's absolutely delicious! I've yet to try their faux meat i.e., veggie shawarma or veggie shish taouk, as I usually enjoy purely vegetarian food. Including the carnivores I know, mostly everyone who has tried it has loved it. From huge and very filling sandwiches, to a variety of salads and sides to pick from, the hardest part is choosing! What I like most is that they serve healthy food that is very flavourful, very filling and reasonably priced. I have been told numerous times how fortunate I am to live so close to this place (literally across the street) and decided to try it out. They offer enough types of salad/veg to please anyone, and even their want-to-be meat dishes are something I would be happy to eat. When you consider the fresh ingredients and portion size you are certainly getting a decent meal. The lemonade was delicious! Keep in mind what time you visit as the wait time was long and you're stuck lining up around the counter. The chefs were very kind throughout! What a hidden jem in the least expected place. Often in this area for my son's hockey it was so very painful to find a good option for food. Along comes this place and everything changes. Now when I'm on the 20 going east or west I consider stopping to pick something up. The place is small and has a terrasse in the summer but reason to make it out is the great food. The fast and efficient service only make it a perfect place to pick up some great falafels. The salads and sides options are also great.
