(The second station is Falkirk High, just South of the centre). The station has a car park and bike stands as well as a taxi rank and some bus connections. It's staffed but there are ticket machines available as well and some setaing areas as well as a small newsagents. It's a fairly accessible station with ramps to the platforms - the only awkwardness is the footbridge across the two platforms, but you can also change platforms using the public roads and footpaths just outside the station. This station connects Edinburgh, Stirling and Dunblane as well as services to Cumbernauld. There are services to Glasgow too but these are less frequent and nonexistent on Sundays. The Highland Chieftain, which connects London Kings Cross to Inverness also stops here.

There aren't many facilities here other than the ticket office and a self service kiosk. Toilets are available free of charge inside the station but still look as if they are from the 1960's be advised that they vary opening times but usually open at 8am. The station is clean and tidy with a seating area inside whilst you wait for your train. Plenty of places to go if you are stuck here for a while. There is a news agents around the corner handy for juice and the daily papers.

There are stairs that lead from one platform to the next, and the signs can be a bit confusing (indeed, our first time through Stirling was on our trip from Inverness to Edinburgh, and I mistakenly read the signs as "up one flight to platform 2". Thank goodness my husband realized my mistake before we hauled all our luggage up and over for no reason!) The trains ran on schedule here, as well, the three times we had occasion to pop on and off. It got to be a bit of a push on our Edinburgh return train, as the train only had 3 cars and there were quite a few people looking to get on, but we managed to find good seats facing the right direction without an issue.

I like that there is a heated waiting room where other stations don't and a toilet that is free to use and when they do they charge you for the facilities. When l was heading back to Glasgow I had to use the rest room where a couple where getting jiggly in one of the cubicles, I knew this as her legs half way out the door, either that the guy was showing his cd collection and she was impressed but doubt that very much. Anyway to cut the story short l announced to the now full waiting room the goings on in the cubicle and for everyone to look at the door when they walked out, they had no shame, hope it wasn't a first date. This train station well deserved the 4 stars given for pure entertainment that l get every time l visit this station. P.s the couple sat at the seats across from me and got of at queen st.

It's quite a new station and looks like it! Very clean, modern, has heating which is great in the…read morecolder months, wide platforms with a few shelters to hide from the wind and rain in, lots of seats in the waiting room, lots of Metro newspapers in the morning! The trains are frequent to both Glasgow and Edinburgh and there's services to many smaller towns too that aren't on the Glasgow-Edinburgh shuttle service route. The staff are always very helpful and there never is much of a wait at either the counter or the machine. Only quibble is that you have to get a key from the counter to use the one toilet (accessible for wheelchairs). While this is never a problem, the station could do with more toilets that do not require a key, especially as it gets busier with all the new housing in the area.

Cumbernauld…read more While Greenfaulds station is more in the outskirts of Cumbernauld, Cumbernauld station itself is in a more central location in the town, ideal for the shopping centres, industrial estates and the college, though it is still a bit 'out of town' for most peoples' liking. Trains from Motherwell (every hour) terminate here, as do some of the half-hourly services from Glasgow Queen Street, while some of them continue to Falkirk Grahamston. So the station is well-served. Like I mentioned at Neilston station, terminating trains reverse on to the other platform prior to departure south, so bear this in mind if travelling. The station building with its ticket office, together with the footbridge and its surrounding area, makes this station look very similar to Bishopton on the Gourock line in my opinion. It's a popular station with commuters, which includes my big cousin who works in one of the said industrial estates. And with the very comfortable, table-fitted, air-conditioned trains that serve it, it's luxury travel for a twenty-minute journey.

We took the LNER train from here to Inverness. We got here…read morea bit too early, which wasn't really necessary as it was easy to get around inside. There wasn't much seating available next to the platform while waiting for the train.

It's a train station. An alright one. And it allows me to get to work. Sadly only once an hour…read morethough; the Stirling to Alloa line isn't quite as regular as the Dunblane and Falkirk services. But I'm happy that I can get here by train nonetheless. This station also won a bronze tidy award a few years ago. Although, when I was there, it looked like a packet of skittles had exploded all over the sheltered area. Speaking of the sheltered area, the entrance is a little confusing. - The doors say automatic. And yet they don't open. I was confused. I tried to pull open the door before the lady inside pointed me to a button on the lower right hand side of the door. One push of the button, and an accompanying side of mild embarrassment later, and I was in. Not long after, another man made the same mistake. And I told him the same. - On the cycle goes. So, the doors are semi-automatic really. Not the kind that open for you, as their sign would suggest. I can imagine wrenching the door open over time can't be good for the poor door. And, also, if you couldn't see the button, or manage to pull the door open, and you desperately wanted out of the rain, you'd probably become a little annoyed with the door's lacking automatic feature. The result is feeling like a bit of a numptie; a damp one. And the antidote is a clear sign which reads 'to open door, press button on right.' Alas, it gets me from one place to another. Nine minutes from Stirling to Alloa, to be precise.
