His schedule was very tight and fully booked, so he decided to come in for an extremely early operation to make the scheduling work. I am indebted to him for the successful surgery and very kind accommodation given the tight schedule. I feel deeply appreciative of his kindness and personal sacrifice for such an early surgery, for his sincere concern for his patients and for doing everything he can to make things work for them. We need more doctors like him. I feel very blessed to have had him as my OBGYN when I was having the medical issue. Since I live in another town and am in relatively good health, I no longer go to him for my annual visits, but I will definitely go back to him should I have any major health issues that require an OBGYN. Doesn't have the entire gamet of hormones either. She will tell you pellets are not as good as her gel. She will put you on what she uses only. The problem with me was I listened to her and she completely changed what did work for me and I trusted her judgment. My mistake but she is convincing. I ended up a complete mess. For several months. I was given the wrong doses, the wrong testosterone and the wrong doses of thyroid. Please I implore you to do your research! If you need a dietary needs, great see her. But if you're going in to do your hormones, they only have what they use. Not pellets! Also, yes it's cash based. They also take many seasonal vacations. So if your a mess like I was, good luck. The entire staff leaves 10 days 4x a year, no back back up staff or on call. You are screwed. I'm still recovering from this place. Do your research. They are a teaching facility in which a student may (in addition to the doctor) be in attendance at your appointment however you have full say at whether the student can be in the room or not. At this appointment the doctor also, upon finishing, requested a followup apt which is something the last doctor 5 years ago didn't request. It's nice to see the care and attention.

I've never written a Yelp review, but after reading the last review I felt compelled to write of my experience because it is a world away from what that person experienced. I don't think the fact that you weren't married or had previous children was a reason for being turned away, but I do know that Dr. Shapiro has been full for years. I, myself, came to see her as a lesbian who had 4 children through donor insemination and she was always fine with it. Over my years with her she has been super attentive to all of my concerns and has seen me through some mental health crises/suicide attempt, caring for my very aged mother, the suicide of my son, and most recently, my transitioning to male. Although she's never had a trans patient before, she has taken over prescribing my hormone therapy and has been instrumental in getting me the letters I've needed for gender affirming surgery. I am beyond grateful for the years I've had with her and dread the day she retires (which I know is no longer on the distant horizon). I don't really think she needs any 5 star reviews since as I mentioned her practice is full, but I felt I had to offer a counter opinion to the individual that felt they were turned away because of having an "alternative" (?) lifestyle.
