Several friends suggested I see a chiropractor. My entire life I have been terrified of having any sort of chiropractic treatment -- based on nothing but irrational fears. At any rate, after four or five weeks of excruciating pain that would not go away, I made my first appointment with Align Chiropractic & Functional Medicine. I felt relief after the first session, and after three sessions, the pain did not return. Now I find myself looking forward to the sessions. I always joke with my husband that their mobile chiropractic unit is like an adult version of the ice cream truck. Dr. Josh texts once the van is in front of my house; I go out and have my adjustment, and I'm back in my house within 30 minutes feeling so much better. We left 90 degree weather in south Florida to 35 degree constant rain in NC when we first arrived. That, and the place we rented had residual cigarette smoke. My body crashed. As a Lupus patient my body does not like the cold, or smoke, or stress, or "". After 3 days of back spasms, neck pain, chest pains and burning inflammation, I sought out a local chiropractor. Dr. Petty is great. He exemplifies the hallmark of any good doctor - HE LISTENS... Then asks questions... then LISTENS some more. He took the time find out about my medical history, examine and evaluate. He used tens therapy and the traction table to stretch out and relax my aching muscles before precise adjustment. He was interested in what worked in the past and what had not - he actually wanted to learn from other people's mistakes rather than the common know-it-all God-complex many physicians develop.
