Are you looking to adopt a doggie or maybe do some good for your soul volunteer work? Check out East Dallas Pet Rescue, EDPR for short. They are a fabulous non profit animal rescue group that rescues dogs (and sometimes cats) found in the streets and local animal shelters. EDRP is not breed specific, so there are a wide variety of doggies available at any given time. They are not an animal shelter so animals are fostered at individual homes while awaiting adoption. The dogs are socialized, taught some manners, and their personality assessed before they are adopted. The adoption process consists of application, reference check, introduction, home visit, shopping trip and some paperwork, but I promise you, it's well worth it. If you aren't looking to adopt a pet but would like to volunteer, EDPR would love for you to become an EDPRist. You can volunteer at meet and greets, help fund raise, or even foster one of their animals. I'm blown away and so appreciative for this rescue. I reached out for help to find a new home for Benj. I explained to them how much he meant to me and how important it was for me to find a new home for the little dude. My grandma had found him a few months before when she went to take the trash out and someone rolled down the window and tossed him out. She loved Benji but did not need another dog. Benji was food agressive and pit/lab mix. My grandma passed away from pnemonia and I could not keep him. They worked so hard and diligently and kept me in the loop the whole time. They helped and paid for him to be neutered, shots and chip. I even got to meet his new family when they came to my home to meet him. I instantly bursted into tears of joy once he finally got adopted 5 weeks later. I keep in touch with his new family. I am so thankful for Reachel the foster and the Elkins family for adopting him. I couldn't of done it without the support and guidance of the people here. They continuously amaze me with the great work they do. I could not sleep at night as I was worrying about taking him to a shelter and how he would of probably been euthanized. I couldn't bare to do that. I adopted Sam about 6 months ago at a adoption event close to downtown one weekend. I couldn't help but notice the dogs. I saw Sam and instantly knew that he was meant to be my dog, The people were very friendly and helpful. Sam went through a bad teething stage and they helped with suggesting a good trainer. I have since had my sister and friend adopt from here. I am hoping to foster in the future when I buy a home and do not rent. The people at the place they get the dogs spayed and neutered at were extremely helpful and had very cheap heartworm prevention that I bought. I love these people! My mom lost her dog a few months ago and was heartbroken, but wanted to do something from the heart when she was ready to get a new "family member"....She decided to come to ED Pet Rescue and choose from dogs who had not had such a good start in life...She met with Jaclyn who gave her a little potted history about each dog (as much as she knew) their temperament etc and it was obvious she loves what she does and cares about each animal...Mom decided on an unusual colored dog with blue eyes, the poor chap had been hit by a car and had a wonky leg, so she has named him Mr Hop...Both are very happy together...thanks again Jaclyn! On a visit to Plano, we wanted to volunteer at a local animal rescue and came across East Dallas. Although we were only there for a few days, we found the staff as warm and friendly as the rescued animals.. One little mite stood out to us, a small, very nervous cross breed, who had had a tough time with e previous owner...every day we were there, we felt compelled to go and make a fuss of him until we had no choice but to adopt him as we had taken him to heart... and so we took him home with us!!
