But they have 3 employees collecting pay for nothing other than pointing people into the right queue for checkouts. I walked right past them. No way am I going to stand at self-check long enough to wait for the scanner to reset between items while I ring up 24 identical barcodes. The woman follows me into the queue, staring into my cart. "You could use the self-checks with fewer customers waiting." "You could open a register and use the quantity button and I'd be out of your way," I told her. Of course, she went back to staring at others who have the audacity to think someone paid by the store should scan and bag their items. I get my receipt and head to the door. 2 gatekeeers BOTH SITTING DOWN, neither is particularly close to the door. Neither has a cast, walker, cane... they are just sitting. So as I flip my receipt showing I checked out with a human and paid, to the one closer to the door, she says something about needing to see but I was already out the door because my hands/arms were full and it was clear neither of them felt the need to get off their seats. I would love to say this is a fluke. The truth is, this location has never been a good experience, since they first built it. The remodeling seems to be with the goal "we can make it even worse" and there are zero employees who care about the company. I usually go to Meijer, but, I got my annual dose of the Ludington WalMart and expect that will be enough for a long time.

Things you will see: clothing, spices, snack, art supplies, storage containers, rope, tools of all kinds, nails and other fastening items, hammocks, gun cleaning kits, sudoku books, beauty supplies, kitchen utensils/dishes/pans, towels of all sizes, ziplocks, decor, birdseed...the list is seemingly endless. He handed it to me and than proceeded to fill the bag to the top with all my groceries except the bread products because they wouldn't fit. I had three large, cloth bags. He put everything in two of them. I could barely lift the bag. I stayed right there and transferred half of the contents into the empty bag. I hope he got the picture.

Overall the store looked great. The store looked organize and tidy, and the shelves looked super well stocked. It's definitely one of the best Walmart mega stores that I've ever been to. actually any Walmart here in Michigan is much better than the Walmart stores that we have in the San Francisco Bay area.

I've shopped at Meijer many times, but after what I've experienced during the night shift (around 8…read morePM), I will NEVER come back. The night manager who has a limp and assistant manager who is short and has curly hair with cauliflower ear are beyond creepy. Instead of running the store, they stalk and stare at customers--especially women--making the whole shopping experience extremely uncomfortable. The moment you walk in, they start following you around the store, watching your every move like some kind of predator. I don't know if they think they're being subtle, but it's painfully obvious. It's unsettling and makes you want to leave as fast as possible. No customer should feel watched, judged, or stalked while trying to shop. On top of that, they treat their employees like absolute garbage right in front of customers. I've seen them yell at workers, degrade them, and act like they're above everyone. If this is how they behave when people are watching, I can only imagine how bad it is behind the scenes. Between the creepy, unprofessional behavior and the toxic management, I cannot recommend this store to anyone--especially at night. If you don't want to feel watched, stalked, or uncomfortable, do yourself a favor and shop somewhere else.

It's unlike any Kohls or other modern department store. Wood floors, over 100 year old wood floors with character that have a vintage feel and an ever so faint creak from them. Neatly organized shelves and racks of clothes with a wide variety to choose from. They have a yarn department,'book department, men's, women's, shoes, gifts, and in the basement Toys! My lovely bride almost had to drag me from the book department as I was on a shopping spree. Then it was on to the men's shoe department that was well stocked and had knowledgeable staff. Most importantly, it's a traditional shoe department, that provides a customer with Service. Not rows of boxes, that you fumble through and serve yourself. Have a seat, the clerks comes to you and asks how can they help? They go in the back and return with boxes of shoes for you to try on. What a very patient and knowledgeable staff! I couldn't get a good fit on my first visit even after trying different sizes, my feet were swollen from a long car trip. I returned the following day and the fit perfectly, On the Yelp review it prompts: Amazing! What went well!; one choice is Value. Prices here are very fair, one could always chase the internet and beat a price unlike. There is value with a brick and motar business. Stock on hand, able to be tried on, friendly and knowledgeable staff and from my perspective that adds considerable value. They even offer a Frequent Shopper Program that I signed up for. It's not a card or computer program, a sheet of paper with your names, boxes to be handwritten in with your purchases and then a 10% reward. Schroeder's nailed it with Service, Selection and Value! Highly recommended and worth the trip.
