The Covered Market - My beautiful boots that I got here!

Excellent store with beautiful things and very helpful, knowledgeable staff. We were looking for a…read morevery specific thing (replacing a broken platter we loved) which they did not have, but they went the second mile brainstorming with us about where else we might look. Super friendly and helpful.

We just bought a house (yaaaay!)...and so the epic decorating battles have begun between my husband…read moreand I. The house is very 70's (think "Brady Bunch" house), so I want to go with a Barbarella vibe (if you have no idea who/what Barbarella is - friends off!). My husband, who has fully embraced my Asian heritage, wants to go full on "Farewell My Concubine". As you can imagine, this house is going to be a schizophrenic hot tranny mess. I can't wait! In one of our attempts to try to mesh our divergent and eclectic visions, we decided to take a look at some Turkish/Moroccan chandeliers for our dining room...and I remembered this adorable store in Tacoma Park. The Covered Market is a Turkish lighting *dream*. I have no idea what any of these things are called, but it was like a rainbow glass mosaic of *awesome*. In addition, the sales lady (manager? owner?) was so incredibly sweet and nice as we plagued her with 50000000 questions about colors, sizes and ridiculous needs (these mosaic balls, with that ring, but of that length, etc etc etc). Heh. And the prices weren't that bad. Yes, the chandelier we ultimately decided upon will be $500+, but we were pretty insane in what we asked for...so I'm quite sure we're the exception...not the rule. Super cute and I can't wait to figure out where to put the other hanging light that I spied. Shhhhhh...don't tell my husband...he doesn't know yet. Heh.

Upon entering, you will quickly that the store is clearly divided by women, men and kids. The store was super clean because I did not notice stains on the floor or clothes all over the place. Perhaps my next statement is due to changing fashion trends (that I was unaware of), but I did not see too much variety in clothing for men. For this shopping excursion, I was interested in purchasing a couple of pairs of jeans. However, most of the jean styles were baggy and "super" wide. Even the regular jeans were a bit too baggy for my liking. Although I was not looking for larger sizes, I did not see too many jeans styles with waist sizes greater than 34. Even though I did not find a pair of jeans that interested me, I thought that maybe I could pick up some graphic T-shirts. Nope! I did not see much of a variety in these shirts. I remember years ago that H&M would be my go-to place to purchase graphic T-shirts. Perhaps, times have changed and H&M no longer carry a large variety of these types of shirts.

The floor set up was somewhat confusing but I managed to find a good deal. A linen dress perfect for beach trips and muggy weather for less than $14. The fitting room wasn't exactly the cleanest and nobody was there. It was somewhat frustrating trying to find and flag down chattering associates to get me rung up, but the store experience itself felt ok. Would I return again? Most likely not because of the lack of what I'd normally wear, but I'm sure everyone else loves shopping there.
