I would recommend coming in the spring or fall because while cool, the giant train warehouse gets a bit toasty in the summer. You start off inside with a bunch of different train models. There is an exhibit on the underground railroad, but it feels disconnected to the rest of the museum. Then you can go into the roundhouse with full sized wagons trains with signage to tell you about the functions/time period/etc. There are more outside as well. It feels very thorough for the 19th and early 20th century, but it would be great if they incorporate more modern trains someday to show the throughline from the past to present. Except for the limiting time outside due to weather, it is an exceptional space with actual train cars you won't see anywhere else. The fact it was an old train station reused for a museum is a great use of an old space. It's something that will be engaging for children and adults.

The website said there were rides outside for kids. Which there was technically one ride. But it hasn't been in operation for quite some time. The other ride wasn't there. The other bummer was that I left an item behind at the museum. Even though I called the museum the week after our visit 3 times, left voicemails every time, and emailed, no one has ever gotten back to me. It really disappointed me that they have no one to help customers. Even when we were there, staff was minimal. Museum cutbacks I assume. Still, I would go back.

The tour guide that was working that day almost seemed surprised that someone came in for a tour! Overall the tour guide was exceptional. Since I was the only person on the tour, I got to take my time and peek around and ask many questions, and take some fun photos of the house. I visited on Poor Richard's Day which is the first Friday of each month - you get 1/2 price admission on those days. Definitely worth planning your visit for the half price admission day. Not everyone's cup of tea here, but if you like old architecture and poking around on house tours you will enjoy this place. More than 20 homes were open for visitors with plenty of cookies to munch on. Even though the weather was a bit dreary, there was a good crowd enjoying the holiday warmth found in each open house. Seeing the park restoration was an added bonus this year and, of course, the H. L. Mencken House was open - a rare treat. The tour returns each year on the second Sunday of December - this year was the 27th event. It's interesting to return each year since some of the homes return and one can see the annual improvements. In addition, new homes are added each year as new residents move in, make renovations, and show the results of their efforts. It's a real tribute to city living contrasted against the negative perceptions many may have about the urban experience. Many visitors are former residents of the area or had family connections with grandparents who used to live in this historic district. It's also a pleasant surprise to see how many are first-time attendees with several from far outside the Baltimore Metro area. It's an annual must-see family-friendly afternoon event leading up to all the Christmas celebrations.

I used to walk there once a week until I injured my back 10 years ago. It's tiny but there are after school events for children. They have computers and a printer. You can go online and order any book in the Enoch Pratt system and pick it up there. Even DVDs if people still use those. With your library card you get access to a free streaming service with movies, documentaries and educational material. And the staff are fantastic. I haven't been there in 10 years so I imagine the staff has changed now. So wonderful to have these services available in Pigtown! Next time I need to print something I'll try to head up there with the help of a neighbor.

Smallest library I've ever been in. People who work there are nice. They have toys in children area…read morefor them to play with as well as a computer. Six computers are there for adults to use. There are also events for chicken hosted monthly as well. I was able to get a library card and use it for five free prints the same day. Children are also able to take 30 books home at once. I just moved in the area so this place is pretty convenient for me.
