** 5 Year Review Update **…read more Fells Point continues to be great for the most part. Quality restaurants and boutiques, gorge water views, some of the coolest folks you'd ever meet. Some establishments have left, some have joined. The crowds stay heavy. Sadly lately, the crime has increased making it sometimes difficult to enjoy. Parking is gawd awful, but worth the hustle. I pray this area improves as Baltimore City deserves this.

Fell's Point is located along the north shore of the Baltimore Harbor and just less than 10 miles from our hotel... we made our way here on MLK Day. Surprisingly, not all the businesses were closed on a holiday. We arrived around 10:30a and found parking. There are a few options for parking including metered parking and convenient lots and garages. We found an open spot on Thames Street. Fell's Point is beautiful as it was once a bustling shipbuilding port. We walked the snowy sidewalks and enjoyed the views of the wharf. Fell's Point is a historic waterfront and one of the oldest neighborhoods in Baltimore. It has served as the home to jazz singer Billie Holiday and abolitionist Frederick Douglass. I loved the cobblestone streets with many waterfront restaurants and bars and the local cute boutiques shops. We had brunch at Barcocina and did some window shopping at the cozy shops. We also shared a pastry purchased from Pitango Bakery Cafe located right there at the waterfront. Review #3664

I tried the Apple Fluff (Fluffed Marshmallow Vodka) and the Whipped Sunset (Whipped Cream Vodka) both were sweet but tasted delicious. Food was also served from lovely ladies walking throughout the lounge. I got to taste some differents small plates of shrimp, pasta, beef ribs, salmon skewers, chicken skewers and more! All the of the food was great. The music, atmosphere, and crowd were wonderful! An awesome event that if it passes through BMORE next year I surely will attend.

We stopped by for brunch at a place nearby and did the approx. 3 mile route around the park. There was a kite festival and there were a bunch of families and friends flying kites and enjoying the day. People were picnicking and playing music- really enjoying the spring day. If you have not been to this park, I highly recommend. It's a great place to spend the weekend.

Located in Fells Point, these two houses were built around 1797 and were part of a structure with…read morefour living spaces, called a quadplex. These houses are what remain of one such quadplex. It is believed there were five such structures on the west side of the 600 block of South Wolfe Street. Each living space was a story and a half tall, one room down and one room up. A six foot open space separated each structure from the other. They were made with common materials of light timber frame with brick nogging and a lime rendering on the exterior. According to the city directories in the late 1830s, 1840s and 1850s, these houses were occupied by "Colored Households" with the occupations of ship caulkers. (Frederick Douglass worked as a ship caulker in the Gardner shipyard in the late 1830s.) The shipyard was less than two blocks from the Wolfe Street properties, and he would have been familiar with them. When we visited them last Saturday, it was obvious these homes are in dire need of renovation and preservation; which we hope that they can do to insure that these homes will be here for future generations to see.

The Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse is located on Pier 5 of Baltimore's Inner Harbor. Built in 1856, it…read moreis one of the oldest Chesapeake lighthouses still in existence. It initially stood on Seven Foot Knoll in the mouth of the Patapsco River, but it was transferred to Baltimore Maritime Museum (now the Historic Ships of Baltimore) in 1997 and was installed at its current location on the pier. It's worth walking over to see the lighthouse if you're wandering around the Inner Harbor (or visiting the Historic Ships of Baltimore), but you'd be lucky to find it open. It's open seasonally to begin with, but the website currently has a note about restoration ("An update on the Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse will be coming soon.") and no opening hours. If you are lucky enough to get inside, the website refers to artifacts in its collection? That sounds exciting. But I personally have never seen it open! Still, its size, color, shape, and location make it worth a visit just for photographs if you're in the area.

You can walk around the lighthouse for a free scenic view or go inside where you'll meet a worker. The worker was super informative and nice. He told me and my friend that we could do a self guided tour of the lighthouse for $3/per person or there was another rate for the tour + seeing 4 ships. This time, we ended up just doing the self guided tour. When having conversations between me and my friend, the worker actually chimed in here and there. It was interesting to read up on the previous keepers and their lives. One thing I loved about the lighthouse was that there's a map that lights up to show diff locations of other lighthouses.

Oh my goodness! What an adorable village. The interiors are so well made. Carpeted floors, mirrors,…read morelamps, beds, chairs. It's all there. These houses are bigger than I had expected, maybe three feet at the roof line. You must squat down to look inside. Using my digital camera to 'see' inside helped a lot and revealed the surprising detail. Eagle scouts were on site decorating for Christmas when we stooped by. One of the houses is being repaired and the train needs to be set up to run before they open for the holidays. According to their social media page they open for the season this year on November 25th, but they are open all year 'round. Some houses are in need of TLC. A roof or two have moss, and the firestation is filled with cob webs. But honestly, if I were a spider I'd want to live in one of these amazing houses! This is a wonderful family outing location. Especially all lit up for the holidays and with Santa on site too. A donation box is located at the entrance, on the right hand side. It's not obvious, so please look for it and make a small donation to help keep this local public point of interest available for everyone to enjoy! One man's desire to build his cat a victorian home has turned into an impressive display. And yes, there are still cats on the property. Go check it out!
