Winter Festival - Make a snow man.
    Mandi T.

Wonderful Family Museum nestled in Bettendorf, IA. Winter Festival in February 2020. Making snowmen out of modeling clay. Here are a few complete demos, I gave away. Hopefully, the museum will open again soon. Check the web site and Facebook for current programming.

As with many others who've come here before, we've seen our share of children's museums. With the little dudes in tow, we now frequent these places in just about every city we visit and this one stands out as one of, if not the best one we've been to! It's quite the gem hidden on Learning campus drive! It's $7 for kiddos over 2 and adults. They have agreements with many other children's museums - our Iowa City children's museum membership got us in for half price. Prior to entering, there are a couple cool little exhibits - a robotic arm to control and pick up balls and a could maker. We spent like 30 minutes here before going in! The main area is incredibly impressive. It's organized in a very intentional way and flows as well as any museum we've ever been to. The "downtown area" with a pizzeria, vet clinic, post office, etc are present right when you come in. The grocery store leads back to the farm area that includes a farm integrated into a canning production area, being fed by a combine that's harvesting. It's incredibly interactive and one of the nicer exhibits I've ever seen! The combine is interactive and was one of the most popular exhibits amongst the kiddos. Nearby, there was a barn with a loft that lead to a slide - also boss! Just off the farm was a water exhibit with boats, dams and bridges. They even had tarp-like covers to keep the kids dry. This lead to a bridge that brought them out to a boat and crane exhibit that too was interactive. It was something I found myself (and saw many other parents) playing with! Finally, there is a playhouse area for kids 4 and under that included rooms with tons of stuff to play with and an interactive projected pond - all very impressive. The back area has larger attractions including a construction one, a TV station and one with a stackable totem pole among others. Out front are traveling exhibits, which currently includes a huge piano that the kids can run on. Al in all, this place was GREAT! We're already planning to making a trip back with friends! If you haven't checked this spot our, you owe it to your kiddos to do so.

We live over an hour away and recently became members as my 5yr old lives to come here. There are so many activities to choose from and she really loved the Thomas the Train traveling exhibit. We have spent an entire afternoon just in the art room creating with all the crafty supplies. If your kids like hands on imagination play this is one of the best in the Iowa. The membership has more than paid for itself and we have used the reciprocal properties at other kids museums and attractions and have saved even more money

My kids LOVED this place. You can spend hours here. There are so many different creative play stations. The pizza restaurant was a favorite. Also, delivering and collecting mail throughout the museum was very fun for my older son.

I am so pleased we visited the Family Museum! It was very cold outside, but my toddler needed to burn off some energy, so we took him to FM for some hands-on fun. We we're thrilled by the reasonable entrance prices and felt the quality of the experience far outweighed the modest fee. It's Christmas time, so the lobby was decked out with a monster model train set amid a wintery scene of snowy fields and skaters surrounding twinkle lights and ornaments. Also at the entrance were charming vintage animatronic characters, such as owls, deer, bunnies, etc set in a wintery holiday scene. The main event is a huge room divided into different experiences designed for kids. Standouts included a model farm, where you can "harvest" food and then send it on its way to a model grocery store, where kids can shop for the fruits and vegetables. My son adored the fire engine, as well as the bridges. He loved the treehouse and the "big" floor piano. There were other exhibits that were a bit too old for him, but older kids seemed to be really digging it. In the main lobby there are Lego tables, and hand sanitizer stations throughout to keep the kiddie germies at bay. Very impressive experience - i absolutely recommend it as a way to engage kids in fun activities in a stimulating environment.

This is a pretty good children's museum. They have recently expanded and created a new are and moved things around. Check on their web site, they have an art room and a clay room upstairs and you can time your visit right to have the kids participate in an activity.

    Super cool front entrance.

Very family oriented. Great place to take young children or grandchildren. Easy to find and plenty of parking.

Wow. 4 adults, a 6yo and 3yo checked this place out on a Friday morning around 11am with our friends who were visiting from Indianapolis (Indianapolis has one of the best if not the best children's museum in the county, so expectations were high). Upon entering the boys got their photo taken with Iron Man and then we went to pay the admission fee. The museum is still strongly encouraging mask wearing, but mosts guests weren't. I suspect it will be mandatory again in the future. There are so many fun, interactive things for the kiddos here: ambulance, Dr.'s Office, Post Office, Bank, Market, Pizzeria, recording studio, instruments, tree hours, airplanes, giant slide, my personal favorite the "Cabinets of Curiosities" that go from letters A-Z located on the walls of the 2nd floor. You could spend hours here. I definitely recommend avoiding peak times, or times when daycares and school groups are in attendance. We had to wait around to sample a few things because it was just so crowded. Museum is located right across from the ice rink and not far from the carousel. You could definitely make a morning and afternoon out of it. A must-see if you have younger kids in your life!

So glad we saw the signs this place was amazing it was just what our 2 year olds need to burn off some energy after 2ish hours in the car with many more to go. It was surprisingly large, has so many different rooms with different themes for the kids to explore. We let the kids play for close to 2 hours than grabbed food at the mall food court and went back on our way.

As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by a friendly and knowledgeable museum associate--she informed us of the layout of the museum, gave us a brief description of the exhibits, and helpfully recommended that we start at the fourth floor and work our way down. It was probably the most organized and efficient welcoming presentation I've ever heard! It was also a bonus that afternoon we showed up on a "free visits" day. I think normally they charge about $14 per person. So, we took what looked to be an upscale freight elevator to the fourth floor and started with the elegant Raven and the Box of Daylight special exhibit by Preston Singletary...this is a very cool multi-sensory work that presents the Native American folktale of how the raven brought daylight (and stars and the moon) to the earth. The interplay of sound and light with the beautiful glass sculptures were really calming and wonderful. The exhibit will be there until August 2026. On our way down to the third floor we saw some mysterious double doors by the elevator that looked like an exit but had a small label nearby, "Wintetgatden exhibit." Good thing we went through the doors because there was an adorable bronze sculpture right on the other side, as well as an expansive view of the Mississippi from a wall of glass windows...a light-filled staircase winds down towards the third floor, and I believe this is the floor with a viewing area set up with easels for drawing! This was a unique and fun part of the museum visit, and there are chairs nearby for relaxing if you don't want to draw... The second floor houses the museum's main collections, including a large collection of Haitian art; we were also able to view a traveling exhibit from D.C. We enjoyed seeing a nice mix of portraiture, landscapes, still life and abstract paintings, sculptures, video art, furniture, and fiber arts... The first floor has the cafe (not open when we were there) and the gift shop... which was very fun to browse. I picked up a book, several stickers and packets of novelty tea for only $1each. This is definitely a fun, lovely, and enriching place to visit if in the Quad Cities area!

I asked and they said base floor is parking to boost it above flood stage. There is a lot of off display storage with other admin and mechanical space. It's still a very nice museum and recommend it. The hidden gem is take the back stairway down from the upper floors. There is a nice sitting and art space overlooking the Mississippi. I do wish the museum store had more to offer and there was more comfortable seating off the bar, which also overlooks the Mississippi to enjoy a beverage or snack while enjoying the view.
