I took my critically ill cat into this east Fort Worth vet clinic. The vet I saw was fine and exhibited the proper mix of concern, compassion and medical knowledge. Unfortunately, the cat died a few hours after leaving the clinic. My problem happened the next day, when the young man who called to check on the cat was clueless. He seemed shocked that the cat had died and didn't know how to respond. I asked if I could return the medications that were in original packaging that had never even come out of the bag. These were not pills but products in their original, unopened packages. The answer was no, we don't take those back; they're yours now. The biggest problem I have with this clinic is that it pretty blatantly puts money above all else. Almost all vet care is outrageously expensive these days, but I've been going to this clinic off and on since my first litter of pups was breed there by AI in 2009. It just gets worse and worse. Before they even looked at my cat, the vet tech asked how much I wanted to spend. This is a double-edged question. On the one hand, it's nice that they don't want to overcharge you without some degree of knowledge. But on the other, it can be read as a way to take you for every cent you're able to spend, which they came close to doing. That's a slight improvement from the previous time (about 4 years ago), when the vet gave me a list of all the things that needed to be done for the dog, most of which were unnecessary, with a price tag of thousands of dollars. There's no way I would recommend this clinic, and I doubt I will use them again except in an emergency, as they are close to where I live. read more

Baffled by their lack of knowledge, attention to detail. I was reminded way too early to come in for bordatella vaccination for my pup. I paid for the 1-year injection. When I called to clear up... They stated, "he needs both the 1 year vaccination and 6 month nasal bordatella. To prevent different things." This is 100%, completely, absolutely untrue. Bordatella vaccine is hardly useful in the first place.. He surely doesn't need a double dose. These people are MONEY HUNGRY. Watch out!! read more

I took my fur-baby Murphy to Family Pet Care when he hurt his back because their location was near my house. I was terrified that the diagnosis was going to be an expensive surgery or euthanasia. Dr. Coville treated Murphy and I thought did a very thorough job diagnosing the problem. She was also very nice, very personable, and obviously very concerned about Murphy's comfort. She prescribed meds and even made recommendations for a canine chiropractor. She also provided reading material and research on his condition (cervical disk disease) so that I would be well-informed as to what was going on with my pup. There was no mention of surgery or euthanasia, which was an enormous relief. A week later, Murphy is up and moving again. He will never be as agile or rambunctious as he used to be, but his quality of life has definitely improved and he is no longer in constant pain. I really liked Dr. Coville and definitely recommend her as a vet. Family Pet Care loses stars for me because it was sooo expensive. Exam, X-ray, bloodwork...my bill was almost $600. And they charged me more because they couldn't get a good x-ray and had to sedate him. That is more than my mortgage. Obviously, I would pay it again for Murphy's health and comfort, but it is very steep. Also, we were there for almost three hours! And they told me that they would get back to me that day with blood work results, but I didn't hear from them until the next day. And when they did call, it was a completely different vet (that I never even met) and not Dr. Coville. So, all in all, while I did like Dr. Coville, I'm not sure if I will go back to Family Pet Care for future care of my animals. But, I do appreciate that they helped my Murphy feel better. read more

Desperate Veterinarian. Finding the best care of our fur babies is not always easy.i have decided to ask questions 1st before taking my kitties in. Family Pet Care in FTW had a great website so I met with the vet. I was charged their $55 Wellness Exam Fee. I didn't bring my kitties, it was just a 10 minute conversation between myself and the vet. I understand it's their time, my husband said they should've told me before the visit that they would charge me to talk to me. These were general questions, such as what's your experience with cats vs dogs, how do you monitor pets while under anesthesia, etc. They close at 7pm and my appt was at 6pm. I was seen at 6:20pm and at 6:30pm, the vet said she had another appt., yet I saw her leave through the side door. The vet only has 5 yrs experience, which for a 12 yr old cat going under anesthesia is not something I'm comfortable with. Their is supposed to be a 3 week wait time after vaccines before doing anesthesia as to not put to much stress on the cats immune system, but they were wanting to do it right away. Their 5pm appt cancelled, so I guess they decided to use me to make up for it. read more

I come to this clinic to get my cat's nails clipped. It's conveniently located to me and clean on the inside. The people there are always extremely friendly and accommodating. It's a little more to get her nails clipped here ($15.50) than at Petsmart, but not all Petsmarts have cat grooming and if they do, their groomers only work on select days. I've seen the dog park and all of the other animals seem to be having a good time. I watched a vet tech walking a couple of dogs too. The staff seems to be super friendly to the animals and seems to genuinely care about the pets. They also had birds and bunnies in reception. I thought that was nice for people waiting in the lobby. read more

I have been going to Family PetCare for over a decade and trust them implicitly. We have three cats and two dogs. All are rescues. Both dogs were rescued by Family PetCare, fully vetted and adopted to us for a fraction of the cost they put in to the dogs' vaccinations, neutering, blood work, heartworm testing and prevention medication. The cats were rescues from one of the many 501c3 groups the clinic works with. As an adopter, long-time client and former volunteer with a cat rescue group I have seen numerous aspects of the clinic. CARE: My pets are treated as the family members we consider them to be. The vets are loving, affectionate and gentle with each pet. Belly rubs for the dogs and chin scratches for the kitties are the norm. TREATMENT Part 1: One our dogs, Opie, developed terrible allergies. My husband and I researched what could possibly be wrong with him, but were stumped as his symptoms were atypical. After a thorough exam and blood work to confirm, Dr. Jaramillo determined the cause and offered multiple treatment options. Some were more convenient to us while others were less expensive. We ended up choosing the option that was easiest for Opie. Dr. Jaramillo closely monitored his progress and made sure I understood the treatment, possible side effects and potential success rate. I can't describe how above and beyond she went. TREATMENT Part 2: Our cat, Nadine, is well into her senior years. Dr. Duncan educated us on the things we need to monitor and discussed the treatment options for Nadine's low thyroid which was causing her to lose weight. She actually recommended the lower priced option as it was what was best for our cat. The other option would have brought in quite a lot of money, so I know that pets come first. BOARDING: We board both the dogs and the three cats at Family PetCare when we travel. We are always given a choice to give each dog his own kennel or have them share. It isn't about saving money; it is about keeping the animals as comfortable as possible in their home away from home. The dogs pull on their leashes in excitement all the way through the door and have no fear (even though this is where they were both neutered!) of the vet's office. Side note: I've seen the entire clinic and I don't understand what other reviewers are referring to in regards to the kennels. They are HUGE! I've dropped in unannounced and found my dogs to be happy, healthy and enjoying the play-time with other dogs. The kennel was spotless. COMMUNITY: Family PetCare hosts numerous community events throughout the year. Non-profits are invited to set up booths in addition to the vendors. There is a live band, petting zoo, kid-friendly activities and raffles. One year there was even a pet musical 'chairs' with cake prizes! They work with numerous non-profits donating their services or charging a negligible fee to ensure as many pets have an opportunity to be adopted as possible. It really is about the love of animals. STAFF: In addition to the veterinarians mentioned above, the vet techs strike the perfect balance between professional and friendly. With 5 pets, I feel like they're all old friends. Kathy, the clinic's Client Advocate, is a gem. I've never seen her ruffled; even with a full waiting room of nervous pets, the phone ringing and checking out a client. Last, I had a billing problem and spoke with the Office Manager, Chantra, who printed itemized statements and took the time to go over each charge line-by-line with me. I went to Family Pet Care for several years. They took good care of my kitty until the end. From the beginning it was apparent he wasn't going to approach this "trip to the vet" stuff with anything less than out and out rage. There were several times we had to take care of his visit over two separate visits as he'd become quite agitated. He got a bit of a reputation. Once it was apparent that he wouldn't be with us much longer, the staff was supportive and concerned with his status as we just tried to keep him comfortable until quality of life wasn't outweighing the effect of his disease. I am SO irritated! I was specifically looking for a vet that would allow me to come into the exam with my 2 dogs so when I called to inquire, I was told yes as long as I was masked up, I could be with them. I arrived only to be told I was not allowed in the exam room. I understand during covid the necessity to be careful and since we've been going through a pandemic for a year, one would think this clinic would be running like a well oiled machine. An apology was made for "miscommunication." I live in far N. Ft Worth and wasted my time and gas for nothing as its not a short trip. Parents are not expected to allow their children to see a doctor alone. People may balk and say its just a dog, but they are my family and I expect to be allowed to discuss the issues in person. Due to an accident while on vacation my dog needed immediate vet assistance. Dr Peeples and her staff were quick to assist him. Their tender care and swift action possibly saved his eye. We have been using Family Pet Care for years. I think over 15. They are a local business and are convenient in case of emergency or needed scheduled pet care. They try to accommodate our schedules. The facility is always clean and odor free as much as an animal clinic can be. They added a larger kennel area and have a large open fenced area for a dog run. read more

We recently moved to this area and, unfortunately I chose this vet based on the great reviews on Yelp. My mom brought her 12 year old poodle here with a hematoma on his ear. He's had terrible allergies for years too. My mom (who lives on social security) was told in the first visit, we had two options. Surgery to remove the hematoma ($800) or $350 to drain it. The vet went into great detail about a prior customer who chose the $350 option and how her dog's hematoma burst and got blood floor to ceiling in her home. She insisted surgery was the best option, but our dog needed 2 weeks of antibiotics to heal the infection first. My mom was so worried and stressed the whole two weeks while we shopped around to find better pricing. (Two vets quoted $350 for the surgery, BTW). She went back after the 2 weeks to have it rechecked and we decided it was worth the office visit fee to get more allergy meds. Second visit-confronted the vet about the high prices and now she says sometimes hematomas go away on their own, and she wouldn't give allergy meds unless we came back in for another (third) visit, and obvious third office visit fee. This place takes total advantage of their customers and is one of the highest priced vets in a 30 mile radius! Preying on the emotional connection we have with our pets. I recommend staying away from these people. read more

First time customer. Place recommended by a friend. My pet needed a groom, get it's shots up to date, and he had fleas. I informed the receptionist as I made the appointment and I repeated the information to the Vet's assistant at the begining of consultation. Assistant informed of the cost ahead of time for everything that was to be done. I informed the assistant of my limit and requested for him to be treated with the pill for flea prevention that lasts but for now to give me two doses for heartworm prevention and I would return in August for the shot. When I returned for Buddy, our dog, he was very happy. When I was informed of how much I had to pay I informed the woman it was a mistake. She informed me that the groomer added an additional $20 since my pets hair was matted/knotted. (Buddy had been bathed a week prior and brushed, plus we have taken him to Petco and we have never been given an extra charge). That was not the problem. The bill was still below the price quoted during the consultation and it was by $30. She repeated what was done. I could not find the error so I asked them to give him the heartworm shot since it was in my budget. I asked the vet and the assistant if there was anything I needed to do for fleas. I was told that I did not have to worry about it because it was all taken care of. Three days later, my pet has fleas and they are not dying off. Now, I'm getting bit on my ankles. I called 5 days later to be informed by the receptionist that he was only given a pill for 24 hours. Told me that Buddy was not given the prescription and I should come in to get the pill that was given to him the first time plus the prescription which costs $50. (That answers the question of why my bill was below the quote.) The receptionist was kind, patient, and informative. Everyone seems to be on the same friendly demeanor. Unfortunately, I was misinformed, or they looked at the wrong dog's record, or they were too busy, and now my pet and my family are having to suffer the consequences. Otherwise, had everything gone well the place would have received 4 stars on this venue. 4.5 stars on my scale since the environment is very welcoming and they have a pet day care park. Plus the convenience of a pet check up and grooming all at once was a wonderful experience. Since we are dealing with a problem which the vet and assistant assured me that he was safe and good to go and did not give me the talk that I received from the receptionist about flea care I have to give them the 2 stars. Having to give 1 star almost makes me not want to review because 1 is giving way too much for this place! I volunteer for a 501c3 Rescue and unfortunately we had to board some of our dogs here... big mistake! They kept most of the dogs locked in tiny, dark, dingy, concrete rooms in crates barely big enough for the dog to turn around and stand up in. The pictures you see of their facility on their website and facebook aren't even close to being the types of rooms a lot of our dogs were kept in. One very hot summer day we walked into one of the rooms and they had the heater blowing in there and the dogs were soaked from panting for God knows how many hours and standing in urine. We have pictures of our dogs being kept in airline crates in a bathroom because they ran out of room. Another volunteer and I had gone one day to take pictures of some of the new dogs for our website and we walked up to 10 dogs (some not even neutered yet and shouldn't have been allowed to be out with the rest) in an outside run (hey! at least they were outside for once!) and what happened? 9 of the dogs went into pack mode and attacked 1 of the dogs and tried killing him. Where were the workers? No where to be found! We had to run across a parking lot, into the building to find someone to come help. It took several workers to get those dogs off of the 1 dog. After they finally got separated and things calmed down, the 1st vet tech (Cindy) that came out said she told the manager Chandra that this would happen. She said the day before the dogs were dragging another dog across the yard! So they were aware of the fights but still put TEN shelter dogs, with unknown back grounds, some not even fixed yet, all together in 1 play yard and were there all day long she said. And myself and the other volunteer were blamed for what happened and treated like garbage. The manager Chandra said "I don't have time to deal with rescue dogs" and that "letting them out was done as a courtesy." Really? I happily work my butt off as a volunteer for this rescue. I was not being paid to be there, so her telling me that she didn't have the time to deal with those dogs offended me, because out of the 2 of us, SHE was the only one being paid to properly care for them! She had the nastiest attitude. When I had the nerve to ask her why she was being so rude to us and told her this was all inappropriate, she got so emotional and irate, she then threatened to call the cops on me. To this day, they still have not owned up to the negligence that happened that day or any other day for that matter. I had left a review about Family Pet Care once already, but they tried bullying the owner of our rescue over it and threatening to sue her for slander because of my yelp review, so I deleted it, but only to stop the phone calls from them, but I've thought long and hard about it and I will not allow them to bully me. Not 1 word from me is untrue and we have proof, pictures, videos and witnesses to everything. All of the things I mentioned in this review are things that I have personally witnessed. They will not get away with bullying me into removing a review about the neglect, abuse and horrible customer service. This place is shady- Keep your animals FAR AWAY! read more

Honestly Family PetCare is one of the most terribly managed places I've worked for. I worked here for about a month and in my time being here I've witness so much. I've seen dogs get thrown into kennels. I've heard employees speaking horribly of their clients. I've heard staff speaking negatively of other staff members and I've heard staff tell animals to shut the f up. Family PetCare is not the place to take your animals to if you genuinely care for your fur baby. As for a work place they play favorites and will not respect you as a person. I've always let my higher ups know when I was running late or wouldn't be able to come in but the one time I didn't let them know I got treated unfairly the next day and sent home. I say they play favorites because in my time there I've seen multiple people late or come back hours after their break and they never get sent home or even in trouble at that but when it's the Hispanic lady let's make her job harder than it has to be and send her home because of the one time she didn't inform us of what's going on instead of hearing her out like a normal human because it's obvious that it's not like her to not let anyone know. read more

I have personally seen how bad rescue dogs are treated here! I took one of my foster dogs there when he began coughing & sneezing badly and at the time i had another dog with a very bad immune system who could not be exposed to anything. They told me he had a URI and was contagious and had to be on med & quarantined again after already having been on them 2 weeks prior to that. So 2 weeks went by with me constantly checking on him and still he was to sick to come home i finally took him out of there and to another vet who determined he just had allergies!! I was very upset to learn that i had left him there for so long especially after seeing how the dogs were kept! They had large dogs in very small cages in a horrible and hot back room! Not to mention there were dogs in the bathroom! one whining so bad from being lonely! Some of the staff were very polite like the ladies at the front desk and some of the kennel tech however i would NOT recommend them because of the things I've witnessed and the conditions the dogs were kept. read more

I've had all my animals come to this vet. I currently have just one cat and i take her about once a month to get her nails trimmed and they're very nice and talk about how much they love her. The staff is very friendly. The only problems I've ever had is they forgot to give my cat one of her yearly shots and I had to go back to do it, and when we had her fixed they put a cone one her which I don't care for on cats because she just tried to back out of it and it looked so sad but it wasn't a big deal we just put an ace bandage around her and at one point put a onesie on her and she was fine. read more

A few months back our puppy was attacked by a coyote and almost died. With the kind and tender care and full attention of the staff and doctors, she survived and is doing great. At first she was nervous but now she is comfortable and relaxed when we arrive for some treatment. She isn't hesitant to walk in through the doors. She's so relaxed she appears to prance in the facility. And is so pretty when groomed with pink bows and scarf. read more

Very nice, kind staff. Dr. Johnson spent about 40 mins with me explaining that my hand raising my cat means he now has no social skills and does not know he's a cat. (very true). The wait was minimal, within 10 mins, and they take walk-ins, and same day appointments. They also stayed 35 mins. late for me to pick up my cat from her bath appointment because no one had called me to let me know she was done, (and I lost track of time). They also have morning drop off hours, 7a.m. I think, with after work pick-up, 6p.m. They do close in the afternoon for about an hour for rounds or charts...but are open Saturdays too. When my kitten had blood work come back strange they re-tested him and made a point in calling me personally, first thing to let me know he was actually fine. Excellent. They carry cat, dog, and high quality bird foods and vitamins also. An added plus for me, was that one of the vet techs is also a Petsitter and totally goes out of her way to feed my beasties before she goes to work and again after. All for a very resonable price. If you call and ask for the tech who does pet sitting they'll give you her name; since I didnt get her permission to post her info here. And if you do have to wait a bit they have 2 office cats that will keep you company and one that nips you when you stop petting her....they also have many large parrots to check out and be amused by their loud and sometimes innapropriate language. (Always a plus for me) Oh, and this is cool. While still in an exam room they can add up your bill on the computer and take payment right there so you then do not have to go back to the wait area and stand in line again and have everyone know what outrageous amount you just spent on a kitty bath and enema...JK. Our beloved one-year-old Siberian husky DIED while being boarded at the "Family Pet Care in Fort Worth. "Your dog ran onto the chain link fence", they called us on the phone, the next day after we boarded him, while we were on a family vacation. Our dog is our family member, and he died from broken neck, on the Thanksgiving day, at the "Family Pet Care on Handley Dr, in Fort Worth. We will not recommend anybody to board their pets there. read more

I have spent close to $500 and 2 visits to try and get my dogs skin infection under control. After 2 rounds of the same antibiotics and steroids, they still insist that it's a skin allergy and that he is allergic to his food. His sores are open sores and no amount of expensive food is going to heal them. I am very frustrated with this place. They think nothing of it that I have wasted $500 on trying to get this under control with absolutely no positive results. I would NOT recommend this place at all! read more

Apollo Support & Rescue (not Apollo Rescue) As of yesterday I am in the process of closing all of our accounts and making arrangements to pay my outstanding balance. I do not care to do business with a company that would argue back and forth instead of just extending an apology from the incident that took place where one of our dogs was attacked and injured during a dog fight. There was 10 dogs in a yard unattended and contained 4 un-neutered male dogs that caused our dog Westin to be attacked. Instead of just apologizing, every excuse was give and a comment made that "they did not have time for all the rescue dogs" I also do not like to be threatened to be sued over someone's review on yelp when it's their right to make a review. I have a had good experience there... yes. Cindy who was mentioned in Elizabeth's post is not the name of the person she had the conversation with it was a younger gal. Cindy who I absolutely love and several of the kennel staff who treated our dogs like they were their own (Mica and the gentlemen that rode the motorcycle... Just loved them). They loved our dogs just as we all did. They did some great things for my rescue allowed us to pick up our dogs and bring them back after events on each weekend. Cindy use to come up there on her off hours to let us in. They donated a bunch of cat food to us so yes a lot of good but unfortunately one bad experience always stands out more than the good. There were bumps in the road here and there and some of our dogs were there longer then they needed to be. We did have to buy several of our own kennels to provide a bigger place for the dogs because several were kept in small kennels but they have now built some indoor/outdoor runs that are nice but we never got to use them. Dr Morton is an extremely nice guy.... spent over an hour on the phone with my addressing issues can't say enough good about him. All business make mistakes if they did not learn from them or read these reviews and correct the issues and do better than they would never grow to be a better business. if you don't' know something is wrong and someone tells you.... You fix it. All we asked for was an apology instead of finger pointing and threats. The volunteer that experienced the dog fight was extremely upset she watch 5 other dogs drag one of our dogs across the dog park shaking him vigorously and she could not do anything about it. please respect her review as it traumatized her. Instead of threatening to sue for slander FPC should of just extended an apology and wrote how they have made changes to their processes and have improved their facility by building more Kennels. So yes a lot of good but they need a lot of help on the customer side of things. maybe we were treated like this because we were a rescue group and regular customers are treated better... I don't know really I just wanted a simple "I am sorry that should have never happened" "This is how we made it better..." Instead we have been threatened to remove reviews or we will be sued. This not only makes me angry but very sad because they help Apollo so much but in the end we were treated so poorly. This could be resolved very professionally instead it has been nothing but threats. Oh and yes they did threaten to post my outstanding balance I owe them wich is over a $1000 but money is being collected and payment is being made. Apollo has a Huge fan base ran by 100% volunteers we saved over 400 plus animals in 2012 and place over 360 in loving forever homes. We are far from perfect but we were only defending a dog that was attacked that had no voice he was our responsibility, we saved him from the shelter it was not to allow him to get hurt. Are the last two reviewers (Elizabeth and Tiffany) going to the same clinic that I have used for over 25 years? First of all, when you walk in the place, the first thing you notice is the lack of a "vet clinic smell". You can eat off their floors. The staff at the front desk is friendly and knowledgeable. The doctors and Techs are professional, thorough and caring. This clinic serves as a rescue center for birds, rabbits, cats and dogs. They serve as a boarding facility for rescue groups including Apollo Rescue. Although the prices seem high, they are competitive with the others in the area and the rescue groups get a reduced rate. They have expanded their dog boarding facility and have a huge dog park opened to the public as long as none of the clinic dogs are out. If you don't like a caring staff, a clean clinic and well cared for pets, then don't go there! I rate it 10 stars. Carol Eicher read more

I saw a previous negative comment but decided to stop in and see for myself. I was very surprised at how clean this clinic is. I requested a tour and this is what I observed. The animals there all seem happy and well looked after. I did see a dog in the bathroom in the Dr's office but when I asked, they told me the dog was sick and contagious and they were keeping her isolated. (great idea if you ask me) I wish my bathroom was as large. I saw the area where dogs that come in from the shelter are kept. Although the dogs kept in here did not look as healthy as the others, I assume that is why they were in there. When I was there, the staff were taking them out for a walk. Personally, I would not send my sick child out to play with others so the previous comments complaining about keeping them inside, does not make sense to me. They even have an isolation area for sick cats separate from dogs. I'm sure the cats appreciate that. The negative review also complained about not having enough room to accommodate the rescue dogs that were there. Admirable of the clinic to continue taking animals even though cramped for space. It shows their dedication to helping ALL animals. Would that lady have preferred they be turned away and left to suffer whenever they were? I think not! The huge boarding area is a 10 star!! My dogs would love it in there. Clear kennels so they are not claustrophobic and get to see everyone. Indoor/outdoor access. Perfect! huge dogpark with agility equipment, Frisbees, kiddie pool and lots and lots of room. All in all I give these guys a 5 star review. They really seem to put the animals welfare first. Pouring rain and the girls were still taking the dogs out to get some exercise. I wouldn't want to be in their shoes but they all had a smile on their face. From the happy receptionist, to the girls walking dogs to the Dr's, everyone was super nice. A Dr Duncan even stopped on her way into a room to say welcome and hello and asked if I had any questions. I saw another Dr in a room with a clearly scared pup and she was sitting crossed legged on the FLOOR! The dog was nipping at her and she didn't even flinch, just continued to be calm and patient (their exam rooms have clear doors so I was being nosey and snooped) I will definitely be bringing my animals here. Their prices were in line with other clinics I visited but even if they weren't, the care that these folks show would be worth a couple extra bucks for me. I know everyone is entitled to their own opinions but mine greatly differ from the review by Elizabeth. I have going to Family Petcare for over 15 years. The facility is always clean and odor free, much better than most. They are a local business and their operational office hours are convenient. They are friendly, helpful, and explain the procedures. The staff will call and check on my 2 "boys" if they have been sick or had a procedure. They usually get their own "suite" when they come. ...
