I had never heard about neurofeedback until recently. While neurofeedback has been around for quite some time and has a body of research to support its use, the traditional medical model doesn't always look for treatment options outside medication and counseling.  I am thankful I found this practice and this treatment modality!  While both medication and counseling play an important role in mental health, I found that neurofeedback was the treatment that helped us better practice our therapeutic tools and lessen our dependance on medications.  Marina and Lauryn are very knowledgeable, caring, and helpful.  After our initial consultation, I immediately felt confidence in their abilities and after working with them for 9 months thus far, that confidence continues to grow.   Initially we started treatment for my 13 year old who has high functioning autism, anxiety, and ADHD.  She was hoping neurofeedback would help improve her ability to understand social nuance, increase her focus, improve her sleep, decrease her anxiety, and decrease her sensitivity to sensory stimuli such as noise and lights.  We knew it could take 15-20 sessions to see improvement - which in our experience was accurate.  Over the course of 46 sessions, she was able to wean off most of her medications and decrease the frequency of her counseling sessions.  The improvement was so dramatic that people who didn't know she was doing neurofeedback gave unsolicited encouragement about how her social engagement had increased dramatically.  It has not changed who she is as a person, but has helped her overcome many of the challenges that prevented her from being the best version of herself.  The difference has been so positive that I personally started neurofeedback for my anxiety and my 10 year old started it for her ADD.  I have experienced a dramatic decrease in my anxiety and have been able to come off my medication after 20 sessions.  I am excited to complete my treatment course and see how I continue to improve.  My 10 year old is a little more reserved and can have a hard time communicating more complex concepts.  While her changes are a little more subtle, over the course of treatment (25 sessions thus far) her communication has improved. She reports she is less anxious and able to focus better.  Each of us has had different results based on their own medical history and journey.  I personally love how they use QEEG data to develop their treatment plan and monitor for improvement and further treatment goals.  There are many reasons why people may want to try this form of treatment.  For my family our motivation was to improve our quality of life while being on the least amount of medication (or no medication) possible.  This process has greatly exceeded my expectations.
