I had a great experience. I just walked in to try and find glasses for myself, and Cindy was very helpful and polite and said I can try on glasses. I ended up finding a pair, as they have a pretty good selection to choose from. The next day, a different associate helped me finish the paying process. Recent transplant to La Grange Park, but longtime glasses wearer. I have had optometrists across this great country (San Diego, San Luis Obispo, San Francisco, Denver, and even one on Michigan Ave!). Guess what, Family Vision Center is one of the best. Hands down! Dr. Graves and his staff were incredibly helpful and resourceful. The quality care was amazing. Dr. Graves made sure to understand how my vision had been progressing and talked to me about what my eyesight will evolve once I hid 40! Super thorough and clear. Plus, the front desk staff took every precaution to ensure the patients were safe due to COVID. These women are putting their health on the line to ensure we can get our new glasses, and they deserve all the credit for keeping this operation running SMOOTH. The team at Family Vision called me when my glasses arrived, a week earlier than planned. I was so happy with my new glasses, I gave them a pair of frames I loved and had them make me a second pair, THAT ALSO CAME IN EARLIER THAN PLANNED. Great front desk staff, great doctor, great glasses selection, everything arrived on time! Seems like a win for anyone in the greater La Grange area. BTW it feels like lot of people on yelp are pretty peeved about how long orders take to be fulfilled, I think we're used to this "instant" gratification culture, and if COVID-19 had taught us anything (especially with supply chains being disrupted) it's PATIENCE! My family had been going here for years. Unfortunately, at this time, If you just need glasses and vision exam, don't bother going here. They insisted on having my health insurance for a vision/eye glass appointment. I have vision insurance which they have on record but they demanded my medical insurance , just in case. I told them if "In case" happened, they could let me know and at that point i could provide it. They said "it is policy". At that time I said "pls cancel my apt and I'll go to Pearle or Sam's club to get my vision test and glasses" and walked out. They didn't blink an eye! Seemed suspect to me and with high deductible health insurance, no way I'm giving my medical insurance out. I only provide if and when medical care is provided. read more

I went to the eye doctor in September and paid for the delivery of 12 months of contacts. The package was delivered to my neighbor because someone had copied my address incorrectly, the correct address was inside of the package, it was handwritten on the box. The were only 3 months of contacts. I called, they said a manager would call me back on Monday. Manager never called, so I went in person. They ordered 9 more months of contacts to be picked up at the store in 1-2 weeks. It's late. I show up and there are only 3 more months (at this point I have 6 out of 12 months of my contacts). The person working says their manager isn't working and will call me back the next day. Manager does not call me back. I call back a few times until I actually get ahold of them, they order 6 more months to be picked up in person. I go to pick them up and they only have 4 months of contacts. They reluctantly order the last 2 boxes and tell me it'll be 1-2 weeks until pickup. I call about a month later. No answer after multiple calls. I go in person, my contacts are on back order but no one called to tell me they would arrive late. I told this story to the person at the store and she just responded that my contacts are on back order. It is now January. I have called at least 10 times and gone in person 4 times. 4 months later and I'm still waiting on two months of contacts. Needless to say I will be finding a new eye doctor. read more

The doctors are great. I've seen Dr. Gula for a while but the process in getting glasses is ridiculously long. Apparently the people who work there say that since being bought by Rosin Vision, all orders are now centralized. And bc of this, it takes a lot longer to get glasses. Have been a patient at Family Vision Care for over 10 years. Always treated with professionalism and courtesy. Dr. Gula is thorough and patient with explanations. I agree that prices for eyewear are higher than what you can find elsewhere - and the wait for new eyewear seems excessive, BUT my most recent purchase kept rubbing behind one ear. After returning for adjustments that didn't seem to help, at the 3rd try I was invited to choose new glasses at no cost to me. They also expedited the order. Don't waste your time, cause all they will do is waste yours. Stopped in to order glasses. They will FIRST make sure they have all your insurance information before even letting you look at their brands. Once they have that- they bring in an optician. Mine was Qiana. She was friendly enough, allegedly placed my order and was to confirm my prescription. I called back twice to confirm that was done. Neither time received a call back. Called a 3rd time and asked someone else to verify my order- it was never placed. Gave an excuse as to why (my fault?)- but I contend NOBODY EVER COMMUNICATED THAT. They then stated what I ordered and it was totally the wrong frame brand/model. At that point enough is enough. Canceled and went elsewhere. Horrible service... I was looking for a new eye doctor for my family and I in our home town thinking we should give business to local businesses... I arrived right on time for my initial eye exam and was told the "we need to reschedule you because the doctor had to leave since you are late". What a lame excuse. Mind you I was waiting in line behind a couple of other customers making payment for at least 5 minutes, and was even given a dirty look since I didn't arrive 15 minutes early like they recommend. Beware: VERY SHADY BILLING PRACTICES! These guys are bordering on being fraudulent at best. I have been here several times and EVERY SINGLE TIME, they have called me after my appointment to say I actually owe more than they thought because of one reason or another. Last month I brought my daughter in for a routine eye exam, making it clear I did not have vision insurance and that I wanted to pay in full right then. They charged me $111, then mailed me a bill for an additional $86. When I called to ask why, they said they could maybe reduce it and would call me back. No call back. Then I get a PAST DUE bill, and when i called them they said it was billed as a medical exam which is more expensive and usually goes on different insurance. There was no unusual issue or test that was done. It was a routine exam. Still waiting for manager, Rhonda, to call me back. I will never go back to this place again. read more

I choose this doctor's office since it was a "premier" office within my insurance network. My first impression was good as the receptionists and assistants were really nice. The doctor was great as well. Everything went wrong with the Optician. The doctor walks me back up front to wait for the optician. I waited 30 minutes for her, just to order glasses and after I finished the exam. She finally comes and wasn't too pleasant. She wasn't helpful and I had to force her to explain things to me, as if it wasn't her job. And apparently she was a manager. At first I did not want to make an appointment there because of all the negative reviews but I'm glad I did! They called me before the appointment to review my insurance benefits. All of the staff was very friendly and helpful. They took everyone's temperature at the door, wore masks, and disinfected the glasses people were trying on. They are very sanitary. I have been going here for as long as I can remember - greater than 20 years. I had a doctor's appointment almost 4 weeks ago and ordered glasses. I was told that they would take 14 days to get in. I tried to call last week; however no one would answer the phone. I physically went there and they told me that they would check on my glasses and call me back. Unbelievably poor service - I have two pair of glasses that they have completely wrestled with getting straight. I took my own frames in, I just needed new lenses, and they lost my frames.. broke the frame.. and then completely forgot to replace the lenses in the other pair!!!! I decided to try this practice after my regular eye dr. said something to piss me off last year, well I wish I would have just let that remark go. I had my exam with Dr. Sparks which seemed to go well and she was nice enough. Like J.H. she did not perform the glacoma test (no drops). I picked out my glasses and all was well. Now before I go on, I will tell you that I have never had any problems, issues, sty's, etc. with my eyes. About 8 hours later my left eye started hurting and swelling. When I woke up in the morning my eye was swollen shut and crusty. I of course thought that it probably had something to do with my exam. I called and they got me in quickly with Dr. Gula. I was told that the ducts of my eye lashes were clogged and that it was just a coincidence that it happened when it did and had nothing to do with the exam. I was charged $50 for the exam, which I was verbally not happy about but told that there was no additional charge for the follow-up appointment. Then put out another $50 for the ointment prescribed for my eye. Today (Tues) was my follow-up appointment...I was given more of the same tests they gave me 4 days earlier and Dr. Gula examined my eye which is almost healed. I get to the reception desk and told that I owed another $35, which I said I was not paying because I was told it was included. the response was "I don't know who told you that because there is always a charge when you see the Dr.". I said "I don't care, I was told that it was included and I'm not paying". She went to check with someone and said "No, there is a charge", so after a couple of exchanges she went to get the office manager who was busy with a patient and she will call me. Since this just occurred 1.5 hrs ago I have not heard back. But I can assure you I will not be back to this place, I would rather go back to my old dr. or just find another. My husband has been going to this place for a coulple of years now and is due for his annual check-up, I have made an appt. for him with my old dr. WOW - I am surprised by the negative reviews. FVC has been my eye place for the past 12ish years. I've had 4 eye doctors during this time - not sure if they have high turnover?? The last 2 years, I've had Dr. Gula - who is great. She's professional and personable. I had some of my spending dollars that I needed to use up - so I decided to get myself some new glasses, out of pocket. I had already used my alloted eye insurance for the year. I already had a current script on file. I walked in and someone immeidatley helped me - no appointment. Service has always been great and friendly. I do think their frames are really expensive. I don't think you can find anything decent under $250 - and insurance doesn't cover a lot of that - so you will probably end up paying out of pocket. They have a great selection of frames though. read more

My family has been coming here for years as well! There has been some change in physicians during that time, but I've never been to one that wasn't thorough with me. I have an astigmatism, so it takes a lot of adjustments to get my prescription right, but they take that time to make sure I'm seeing as clearly as possible. The rest of the staff is also very kind and patient. Plan a few weeks in advance for your appointment to make sure you can get what you want! They have an AMAZING selection of glasses to select from. You can spend as much as you want, they have lower price points (even clearance!!) all the way to $500 Gucci frames. They take most insurances, which is nice and has kept me coming back. We went here to look for new glasses for the children. we tried a few but most of the frames are for adults or teenagers. so we asked for the sizes chart and the staff were mumbling about ordering them and what you see is what you get in store. one of them insisted the frame fit just fine but anybody can tell the frame we tried was too big. they're good sales person but they don't care about what you need. I walked pass the store yesterday around 4p and saw one of the lady smoking an e-cigarette inside. business must be slow and taking it easy over there. I went for an eye exam and ordered glasses on June 6th, it is July 28th and I still don't have them. I have called to ask for updates and they promise to call me back but nothing. This used to be a great place to get eye exam and glasses. It has really gone downhill in recent years. I have been going here for years and have had no issues other than a very poor selection of glasses and a reluctance on the part of the staff to provide me with my prescription so that I could shop elsewhere. I had questions about the way I was billed for my last regular exam. I called them and their billing company seven times for over a month and left multiple messages on Dr Gula's and office manager Rhonda's personal voicemails. In addition, I asked the front desk staff to please give them messages asking them to call me back. I was only able to reach Rhonda by persisting with a staff member. I was on hold for fifteen minutes before Rhonda came on the line. She said she and Dr Gula had not received a single message from me, either by voice mail or from a staff member, yet she knew what my question was and had an answer. No pressure sales staff - in fact they let me take my time trying on frames even as they were closing up Sat afternoon. I have been going to Family Vision Care on-and-off for years and recently gave it another try because the office is very nice and also convenient to where I live. It seems like an organized place, but I agree with the reviewer who said the process is slow. I placed an order for contacts but needed a new pair in less than a week which wasn't possible for them. Since I knew 1-800 Contacts would be able to overnight some lenses, I had them call the office for the updated prescription. For 2 days the staff seemed to be stonewalling with regard to releasing my prescription, even though I had made a recent purchase. Even though I was in a bind, they just didn't want to help. On the flip side, the 800-Contacts reps were so helpful! It seems sad to me that an online vendor provided much superior customer service to a locally-owned business (and at a much lower price.) I am sure the average customer has a fine experience here, but my spouse recently had problems with his contact lense order and he ended up shortchanged. read more

If you want to be treated honestly and respectfully, this is definitely the place. This place is one of the most unprofessional businesses I've encountered in my area. I only went there because it was close to me, I really should've looked at the reviews first. After having a long eye exam the Dr. told me that my vision had changed therefore ordering me new lenses. They came in in 2 weeks completely wrong. When I took them back Amy (office manager) assured me that they would of course be fixed at no extra cost. She also said she would put a rush on them, they still came back in 2 weeks. Once I try to pick them up the young lady there tells me there an outstanding balance, I explained to her that they did them wrong the first time, therefore there was no extra costs. She refused to give them to me, basically holding them hostage. Once I get back to office, I get a call from them that it was their mistake therefore I can go pick them up now (meanwhile I am back at work). Again I go and I ask to speak to Amy the manager, she refuses to come out!! I will never go back there. They all need to be trained in customer service! read more

I've been a FVC patient my entire life (only 30 years, i know) and have always received excellent care... until recently. It seems FVC has been purchased by another vision care company, and the quality of service has absolutely plummeted. FVC is nothing more than a cashgrab at this point. I've been wearing the same contact prescription since 2004 and have had yearly eye appointments since. Never once has my prescription changed. For either eye. I lost my vision insurance a little over 2 years ago which led me to purchasing my contacts online to save money. You order online, they call your eye doctor to confirm prescription, they confirm, contacts ship. Had done this twice since losing my vision insurance. Now that FVC has been purchased by Rosen (or whatever the company's name is) they demand that i come in for a checkup, even tho i 1. Don't have insurance 2. Cannot afford it 3. Have never once had a change in contact prescription since being prescribed contacts. I wear the same prescription today as I did the day i was prescribed contacts. Shame on FVC and shame on Rosen. If your gonna sell your company to some money-hungry corp that could careless about the care they provide you, the least you could do is send a letter or notice to your patients so that they're aware they should seek out other option instead of being bentover by the "new" FVC. I used to send everyone i knew to FVC, pointing out their exceptional level of care and service, but that is no longer the case. I will actively discourage anyone and everyone from doing business with FVC from here on out. FVC is an absolute shadow of itself with no remorse whatsoever. I hope this place closes soon before other are confronted with this utter betrayal of their patient/customer base. Shame on FVC. I thought I scratched my Cornea over the weekend and did not think to make an appointment until I was driving home from work on the Northside of the City. The staff did everything that they could to get me in on Monday night before they closed at 7 pm. I saw Dr. Gula and she immediately made my eye feel better. After putting medicine in my eye and covering it with a special contact lens my eye felt better immediately. By Tuesday morning my eye felt 100% better although not 100% healed it did heal through the week. It took three appointments to ensure my eye was healthy again. I know I could have gone to many different vision care facilities to have my eye looked at. What set this place apart from other places is the staff and Dr. Gula. The staff treated me as if I was a long time patient. This was my first time going to Family Vision Care. I was seen right away and everyone that I came into contact treated me with respect. it was such a pleasure going into this facility. Dr. Gula was very helpful in explaining what happened and what procedure she was going to do. I will tell you that they have earned my future business for sure. Horrible service! They cannot keep appointments, when you go to the office you wait for long periods of time, staff is not helpful! NEVER go there. I tried to make an appointment to get my son's eyes checked for school and they make you jump through all the hoops. Like making sure you have the forms, if you refuse to give them your medical insurance they will not accept appointments. I am sorry, I don't want to give you ALL my insurance information. Unreal experience. No respect for your time. RUN FROM THIS PLACE. Had an appointment for 10:15 AM. The technician who did my appointment was professional and did the pre-exam quickly. I have no problem waiting for doctors, but I was the third appointment of the day. I sat in a waiting room for twenty minutes and then I walked out kind of confused why it was taking so long. At around 11 o'clock the doctor storms into the room, throws her binder down on the table acting frustrated and extremely rude. Rolling her eyes, aggressive handshake. I walked out. I mean, I'm sorry I have things to do and I can't sit in the eye doctor for two hours. Her bedside manner needs some WORK. Instead of apologizing for taking so long, she said, "I had people who needed me". Well, it's called being timely and professional. Period. Professionals don't let their emotions drive inappropriate behavior. I'll be getting a new doctor and I am taking my entire family with me. read more

Because I live in La Grange and was patient of Dr Sparks before, I thought I should write review. Well, my experience was at first GREAT. I was spending a lot of money for my glasses so obviously was given extra attention. But here is the story...I do not wear glasses often, normally contacts. During my first appointment I specifically asked Dr. Sparks not to prescribe me glasses with astigmatism (I have very slight astigmatism) due to the fact that it affects my vision and gives me headaches. How I knew it? Well I had that prescribed before by another doctor who corrected it immediately after I was having vision problems. Dr. Sparks assured me I need glasses with astigmatism. So, thought she is Doc, she knows better, so got recommended glasses. I did not wear them that much, only at night before bed. One day I got eye infection, so needed to wear glasses for a week. I could not believe it! It started giving me headaches, the view was so distorted, felt like I was seeing rounded corners, I felt dizzy while walking,I mean it was so annoying! I made appointment with Dr. Sparks next week.... She refused to prescribe me different glasses saying that my "brain needs to adjust". I told her that I wear contacts normally without astigmatism and don't want "my brain to adjust" every time I switch. I mean, I can't even walk with these glasses, I am always feeling dizzy. She still refused. So I called back and made another available appointment with different doc at the same office. She was very pleasant, checked my eyes again, addressed my concerns and agreed to change prescription. I was happy again and immediately met sales woman upfront so she could order new lenses which was covered under 1 year warranty. Guess what, I get call from office couple days later while waiting on my new lenses, and this woman tells me that warranty on lenses expired like a day or two ago and that I need to pay for new ones. I explained to her that I had 2 appointments before that , that I SPECIFICALLY told Dr. Sparks I DO NOT NEED lenses with astigmatism and she refused to change prescription. I absolutely refused to pay for their mistake and was treated like garbage. I received my new lenses but after numerous arguments over the phone. They made me feel like it was my mistake....I never came back after that. I was so insulted. My 5 stars only for doctor who took care of me, for others I would give 0. read more

I had eye insurance that made me go to a limited number of providers. It was $10/mo, so $120 per year. I went to the provider closest to me, Family Vision Care and end up paying, with the eye exam, $575 for glasses, so, with insurance, $695. Went to Four Eyes, during their half off sale, glasses, just as good, were $244, the exam would have been an additional $90. Plus, went to Family Vision for two years and the glasses always broke or became foggy (they used the insurance carrier's lesser supplier for lenses). Go to Four Eyes. read more

I have been going to FVC for about 9 years now, without any problem. First and foremost I like Dr. Gula. So yesterday I go for my appointment, I gave them my insurance information. I have VSP which has been the only insurance I have ever used with them. Yesterday, they ask me for my major medical insurance information as well. I asked why, since I do no have vision ins with them, I have the VSP. They said well just in case of a medical problem. Okay, fine. So as I am sitting waiting for my exam, one of the ladies comes and asks me to fill out and sign more papers saying I will pay the expenses myself since she called my major medical and FVC is out of network. I told her I am NOT using my major medical just the vision insurance VSP, and they are in network. She said well there may be something medical and we just won't know that until you go in for the exam! And I cannot tell you how much it will be. What? She said we may find out you have high blood pressure or diabetes. I said I do have high blood pressure, you have known that for years since you have my list of meds. She said okay, see that will be an extra medical charge since the Dr. has to chart it, and follow it. NO. My medical doctor follows it and I am not paying extra, and especially since you cannot even tell me how much, just to have an eye doctor whom I see once a year write it in a chart!!! I left and said I would go somewhere else. They just said buh-bye. I have never used my BC/BS insurance before and I was kind of pissed that they even called them. I feel like they were just looking to charge my insurance (both of them) or me extra $$$$. Never going back. read more

I called 2 weeks in advance and informed them that my insurance had changed to insure that I was still covered under them (which I was instructed to do by my insurance provider). They told me over the phone that they do take my insurance. On the day of the appointment I handed the receptionist my card, she made a copy, and sent me the waiting room. It wasn't until the exam was over I was handed the bill and told that they didn't take my insurance. SCAMMERS! I would never send my family or friends here.
