I needed to do a return for a birthday gift. I took in the original receipt I was given by my…read moremother-in-law along with the items that were purchased. The front line cashier, while very nice, stated their policy about doing returns ($ back to original form of payment, exchange or gift card). I explained that this was a gift and would be inappropriate and rude to ask the gift purchaser to have to present their card for a return. He politely suggested I look at some shirts or jerseys and I asked what their largest size is (2X - I'm a 4X) I told him that wouldn't work for me and I asked to speak to a manager on duty. He pointed to a lady that was working with a customer and said he'd let her know what's up when she's done helping that customer (which is fine and expected). When the lady came to the register area she just asked the cashier if he needed her (he obviously said yes). She didn't introduce herself (later learned her name is Samantha) or anything just asked "what's up?" I went through everything again and she goes into the "our return policy" speech. Then she asked if I had the original card it was purchased with; "IT WAS A GIFT!" I said rather loudly. I continued in a firm tone "You guys don't carry things in my size and I don't want any of your bobble heads or tchotchkes." Not once did Samantha give ANY semblance of understanding just kept repeating the company's return policy. Finally I was just DONE and asked for her supervisor's contact info. "I can't give that out" she says. "I can take your name and number and they can call you." I retorted with "Their has to be some sort of contact information you can give me." Samantha wrote down a name (Butch Vela) and phone number of a sticky pad, took the return items and receipt and just shoved them all back into the bag I brought them in. When I returned home (10 min later) I called the number she gave (it was the store's number) and told the person answering the phone that I was the one who just stormed out of there about 10 minuets ago and I need to leave a voicemail for Butch Vela. Samantha was the person who answered the phone and she advised that they don't have a voicemail system but she's hand write a note and give it to Butch the next time he's in. I asked what Butch's title was and she snapped back with "he's the district manager. I'll give him your contact info when I see him!" I said I'd "expect a call within 48 business hours" (I'm figuring he's M-F 9-5) "which should be no later than Tuesday." "I can't promise you that." She said. I finished that call with by repeating my expectations of the return call and said thank you. Now I wait. Update - 3/22/18 - No contact from Butch as yet.

The press sings songs about REI like it's the holy land for outdoor men and women, and maybe that's true in parts. But you don't go there for ceremony, you go for the tools. They make good tools. You don't want to trust your life to something flimsy when you are out there, far from the roads and the towns, when your survival depends on gear. REI has it, in its clean rows, with its well-meaning salespeople, and its prices that sting a little but still make sense. It is the day-to-day, too. The jacket for the morning walk. The pack for the hike with your daughter. The water bottle that won't quit, no matter how many miles you pour through it. It holds up for the small things and the big. It holds up for life. It isn't perfect, but neither are you. Still, you trust it.

Coastal is a great source for SO MUCH. Heres what weve shopped there: Clothes Work shoes Dog accessories and self serve dog grooming Vet care Household and garden tools Grilling and BBQ IF coastal had groceries I literally wouldn't need to shop anywhere else. Its a big store but doesn't have a lot of sales coverage. Now, in my opinion, for MOST of Coastal niche market, there doesn't need to be a huge sales floor presence. You will need assistance for several back of the store items. Griils, fueled heaters, guns, and tools. So plan ahead by ordering online, or ask for help once you're in the building. Be patient the folks here really do try to help. On a recent visit, there side door was damaged. We went outside to look at garden clearance stuff, since nothing had been posted prohibiting going through, so we went out and the door locked behind us. Some customers were walking by and let us back in. We mentioned it to the cashier, and a floor manager over heard and authorized a discount on our purchase. Very unnecessary, but nevertheless appreciated. Besides great prices, and products the self serve dog washing facility is clean and simple and great if you have fur babies that would drown your home bathroom out trying to wash them at home. All in all, a wonderful place, and if you find yourself going there for a reason, you wont be disappointed.

My mother and I visited the Lacey Coastal store and witnessed one of the most disturbing things…read moreI've ever seen in a retail setting. Several White Leghorn chicks were actively pecking at and eating the vents of other chicks. Three were bleeding severely, and we immediately separated them while my mother ran to get help. Instead of responding with urgency, the employee who identified herself as Shawna became confrontational and accused my mother of being rude for the tone she used while trying to report an animal welfare emergency. When you're watching baby chicks being seriously injured, you expect staff to focus on helping the animals, not criticizing the customer asking for assistance. The store manager, Garrett, later spoke with us and acknowledged that they had more chicks than they were selling quickly. The enclosure we observed was overcrowded, contained mixed breeds, had no food available, and very little clean water. Those were the conditions we personally observed, recorded, and photographed. I reported the incident to the city, which informed me they would be monitoring the situation. I also spoke with the regional manager afterward. He apologized, asked for my mailing address, and said he would send gift cards as an apology for our experience. I provided my address, never received anything, and never heard back despite the promise. The gift cards aren't the reason for this review. The real issue is how the animals were being kept, the dismissive response when we asked for help, dishonesty, and the failure to follow through after acknowledging the situation.

The greeter at the front, Lori, was extremely rude and unprofessional. A greeter is supposed to make customers feel welcome, but her behavior was completely uncalled for and ruined the shopping experience. I hope management addresses this customer service issue
