We spend quite a bit of time driving our kiddos back and forth to various skate parks in the area. My son had been begging us to take him to the new Vernon Hills Skate Park, so we headed out on a beautiful sunny day. Getting to the park was a little tricky. For some reason we missed the turn. Aspen Drive is a little hidden if you don't look out for it. When in doubt, just turn around in the Vernon Hills Police Department parking lot ;-) The skate park is new and on the smaller side. For our kids, this was a little more on the beginner level. I don't recommend it for advanced riders. The rails and ledges are limited and it's pretty flat. But, it's so nice and new. The park district did a fantastic job. I have no doubt it will get used quite a bit. It's a great place to gather with friends! Take note: There is only a little shade with a couple of covered areas Tons of parking, and there is a Walgreens nearby for those wanting a snack. The nearby Sullivan Center is actually really nice. It was closed the day they went due to Covid19. Highly recommend for those starting out. Open dawn to dusk.

I think all the 14 year old kids were wondering whether or not he would break a hip or wondering if he really knew how to skate and drop in which he does. It's nice to see more places opening up for kids to go let off some steam. A lot of them are really good and fun to watch. I was the only wife there, but not the only spectator. There were parents rooting their kids on. Nice, newer skate park located off of Kirk Road. Park is located further back with a small road back to the parking lot.

There is something for everyone…read more -covered picnic tables -soccer and baseball fields -paved walking, biking, and running paths -bathrooms -sledding hill (for winter) -playground -skate park -splash pad I have been here a few times and only use the playground and splash pad areas. The splash pad is perfect for little kids who tend to run and take off because the splash pad is completely fenced in. There are also separate bathroom facilities just for the splash pad. The only bummer is that the splash pad is on concrete and doesn't have the rubber.

Prior to the Covid shut down, Jewett Park was in the midst of a significant overhaul. All projects…read morecame to a halt, but they've since finished the new skate park. It's new and smooth! For a little background information, this skate park is one of few poured concrete skate facilities in the state that are open to the public. The Vernon Hills skatepark is another one I've been to. This park is 11,000SF with one bowl, a vert quarter pipe, ledges, and rails. There's a hangout area that *had* benches, but the benches were most likely taken away to help avoid gathering and encourage social distancing. There are currently no benches or designated places to sit. There is no shade, so wear your sunscreen! In case you didn't already know from my other skate park reviews, I'm a mom of two boys who take their scooter riding very seriously. I've been to my fair share of skate parks, and Jewett has now been added to our rotation. However, the boys don't go here as much as I had hoped, because it gets pretty crowded.

But they decided to tear up the mobile home park and toss a disc course in it's place. Not bad, not bad. Oh and don't worry about finding this place, it's on North Street (the street by the yellow wood supply building) and just north of the railroad tracks, right next to the skate park. As I said, mobile home park prior to the park being made. You set foot here and you catch whiffs of the sewage and the 'great' Kishwaukee River. Again, not too hard for a beginner to sink their teeth here. The first four holes are my favorite- not too short and not too easy. Over all, if you can tee nicely you won't have a difficult time. When it rains, the river rises and floods out hole 8 and will leave your shoes muddy. Heads up on the geese over here, they tend to be combative. 13 is unlucky for this guy. I've teed off nicely only to find my disc hit the only hard patch and skip into the river. There is a pond here so be careful of arrant throws since you will be testicle high in water that may or may not have been used as a giant urinal. That doesn't stop the locals from making a day of it and fishing it though. Please them with a couple of Bud Lights and they'll show you them whites. Replay: High.

Earlier this year, I was unemployed with a lot of time on my hands. I had so much free time that I would just wander around my neighborhood aimlessly because it gave me something to do. One of my regular stops was the Logan Square Skate Park. It was fun to watch the kids do tricks and skate around. At times I felt like a creepy old lady surrounded by high school kids, but this park was family friendly so a few parents brought their little ones occasionally to skate around. Oh, who am I kidding...I still felt creepy but it was a nice distraction and it got me off my couch and out of my pajamas.

This I had to see for myself. So, the other day I offered to take my kiddos there, and it's not at Abt, but rather hidden in the large Glenview Park District Community Park West right behind Abt. Kids refer to it as the Abt skatepark, because I believe it was sponsored by Abt at one point in time (I mean of course!). The park is a ramp-centric 15,000-square-foot facility designed for beginner and advanced level skaters. It has a bunch of smaller beginning ramps, quarter and half pipes, and a grind box/ledge and rail. There are no bowls. Note: It says no scooters allowed, but there were both scooter riders and skateboarders. The park is off the beaten path. It has benches for taking breaks, and there is also a covered area for those who want to enjoy some shade. On the day we went it was super duper hot, so we were there for only 30 minutes. Plenty of onsite parking.
