A couple of years ago when I moved from CA to PA I took my vehicles in there to get the CA titles changed to PA titles. It took 3 visits to get it done. Every time I went in they'd say I needed something additional. I didn't mind the first time when they told me I'd need a safety inspection done. But the second time I went in they said I needed a VIN verification done also. I asked why they hadn't informed me of that the first time I was there? I also asked if they couldn't just go out to the parking lot and verify it themselves. They said "no, it has to be done by a state inspection site. Again, I had just come from one for the safety inspection. Even the inspection station was confused and said they'd never had to do that before. Last week I went in there to register a new motorcycle I had bought in Illinois. When I went in they'd say gal said the transfer of ownership box the dealer filled in and signed needed to be notarized. I called the dealer while at AAA and had their sales manager talk to the gal at AAA to make sure it was clear what was needed. The AAA representative said that the box would need to be notarized or the dealer would have to apply for a PA title. When the gal from the dealer asked what she would need to do? The AAA rep gave her a phone number and a website for PA's DOT. The dealer rep called the number only to find out you couldn't talk to a live human on the phone. She then went on the website only to find there was no option for what she was trying to do. So I spent the $11 and sent the title back to the dealer to get it notarized. The following week I received the title back with the notarized signature. I went back and was told the odometer disclosure would also have to be signed and notarized by the dealer! I asked why I hadn't been told that before. All I got was a half hearted "sorry". I called the dealer and explained what they were wanting now. The dealer rep said in Illinois, that box only needed to be completed if they were selling a used bike. Not a new one. I went back in the AAA office and spoke with a manager. She said, in PA, the box would need to be completed & notarized. So another $11 and another week wasted. Not to mention the time I've had to wait for help while there. During all of this, I found out that AAA in CA had charged me almost $300 for the past year's membership. Because it was in auto renewal I didn't notice the extra payment. When I had moved to PA back in September of 24, I was told my CA membership wasn't any good anymore since I no longer lived in the state. But the switched my membership to one for PA. Well, turns out, they don't cancel your other membership, you, the consumer are required to do that. When I talked to the CA office about this, they explained someone in the PA office should have told me this! I finally got them to agree to refund me for the past year's CA membership. But really? This is the kind of service I can expect from AAA after 39 years of membership? I'm considering canceling my membership and going with a different auto club. How said.
