We decided to get our taxes done by a professional. My wifes friend recommended Gabriel Pina. We made an appointment with him and went down there today. I'm glad we did! Gabriel was super friendly and took care of us in a quick fashion. He asked us a few questions to see if we qualified for more write offs than what we were expecting (we did...hooray!). The whole process took about 30 minutes and we left there knowing that we would get a decent sized refund. I was surprised on how little it costs too. I was planning on spending $200-300 to get my taxes done and his rate is way less than that. It's not a whole lot more than if you paid Turbo Tax or Tax Act or whatever other programs are out there. I would rather pay a tad more to have a guy do it and get it right. Gabriel did an excellent job explaining everything including write offs, deductions, audit procedures etc etc. No question was left unanswered. MER never asked if we had filed for SS. This year we had the SS form for 2019 and filed it with our taxes. When our 2019 taxes were done, it happened to come out we had collected the year before. So they took our 2018 SS info and completed the forms. Then they charged us a penalty because they could, on top of the cost for the form because we had forgotten it. That penalty they charged us cost them because I will never go back to them. So they collect a little extra this year but lose out on the hundreds each year in the future based on what they have charged us each year in the past.
