Medicare is a complex area with draconian…read morerules and lots of deadlines that you need to navigate, and it is not always easy to figure this stuff out on your own. For example, if you are on a Medicare Advantage Plan (which a lot of people are encouraged to get at age 65 because of the low or zero premiums) and you find out later that the coverage and provider networks aren't good (how good can a zero premium plan be?) - it could be difficult to switch back to Original Medicare + better coverage of a Medigap Plan, because by the time you decide to switch, you're likely older ad would be subject to an underwriting process that most seniors would fail (due to preexisting health conditions). But there are certain circumstances that guarantee you the right to buy a Medigap plan regardless of your age or medical condition -- the so-called "right of guaranteed issue" - which federal law and sometimes the law of your state provide (e.g., in CA, if your premiums for a Medicare Advantage Plan increased by a certain amount or if you move out of the plan area). But this information is not readily available. That's why you need someone like Kathe. She was very knowledgeable on these topics. When I called Kathe, I had already done the basic research and thought that a switch would be possible. Kathe confirmed it, helped us find a reasonable Medigap plan and took care of the application (which is itself confusing because insurance companies make their applications opaque so it's hard for you to figure out which box to check). I highly recommend giving Kathe a call. We've talked to 2 other Medicare "experts" who didn't know more than we did.

That call didn't come so I signed up with another company - Amiga. When the person at Wang's finally got back to me I explained it was too late, I had already paid my premium to the new company. They said ok and hung up. Now I get a collection for $103.29 for service I didnt use. I was told I could pay monthly. The little trick they use is to bill you for the whole period so they get paid even when you aren't using their service. I wont deal with the agent again and recommend you don't either.

We went through the closing document numbers with Brett, and even though this was not his loan, he went above and beyond to explain what the numbers meant and how they were calculated.
