I usually don't review companies but I wanted to warn everyone not to do business with this company. My furnace went out so a called around to see how could come out first and Farrell's responded first so I thought I would give them a try. Minimum fee for the Service Call was $99. No problem. I was not home at the time but my wife was. Service tech came and quickly determined the problem a blower fan had gone out, a problem that I was aware. I had been researching the replacement part and had to options. one was to simply replace the motor for $100 or the entire housing and motor assembly for $205 locally. To simply replace the motor, it required unplugging a electrical quick connect and 4 screws and replace the motor or 6 screw to replace the entire assembly. I just hadn't gotten around to ordering or getting the part myself. The tech showed my wife the part, told her he had the entire housing part locally, and would get it and be back. He then told her it would cost $788. After he let to get the part my wife call me and I came home. shortly after I got home, he returned with the part and I began to quiz him where he got it knowing full well where he got it and it's cost. I stayed in the basement while he replace the part and started the furnace which worked fine. All this took 15 minutes at the longest. He had me verify the furnace was working and went to his truck to write up the bill. Once he returned, he went directly upstair to where my wife was and presented her with the bill. I was still in the basement waiting. I went upstairs and asked to see the bill. The total bill was over $800 but what the worst part was the cost of the $205 part. It had been marked up to $788 for the $205 part. I confronted him about the outrageous markup and he told me that was set by the owner and he had no say in the matter. People, this is plain and simple price gouging! They totally take advantage of a customer. I am a local realtor in town and I can assure you I will tell everyone my experience with Farrell's and high suggest you don't do business if that how they treat there customer. Horrible people skills, manager told us not to call back when we complained about his employee who answered the phone. Do yourself a favor and don't even bother calling, everywhere else in Sioux City is much kinder and way more helpful. read more

I cannot believe that I'm the first person to review them After my situation with them, I was able to hear other stories from other people and it doesn't seem like I'm the only person unhappy. Had I heard those other stories, I would have never went with Farrell's. At the end of May, my AC unit in the house that I just bought 5 months earlier went out. the first people to come out and look at it was Farrell's. The first day, he told me that he couldn't do anything because the compressor was too hot and that he would have to come back the next day and check for leaks. The next day he came back and ends up having to do some welding. He turned the unit back on evidently, oil was shooting out of the inside unit. He told me that oil came out of it. What he failed to tell me was that oil got all over the brand new basement carpet. There is a door there that is usually kept closed but I assume he opened it to allow for him to do some welding (???). I didn't know or notice the carpet until later when I was down in the basement trying to clean up the ash that was EVERYWHERE in my built in book cases (covering a bunch of books which is a nightmare to clean off of books while trying to not smear it around.) As I was cleaning, I noticed that the carpet in front of that sliding door was black. Upon feeling the carpet, it was oily. I'm assuming that oil got on the carpet and instead of telling me so I could clean it up or even putting something down over it, he just went on to the welding part. Or maybe the black part of the carpet was from work boots? I'm not for sure since I didn't notice it until later. Therefore, I had to incrue additional costs in order to clean my carpet. Mistakes happen. I understand, but the responsible and considerate thing to do would be to let them homeowner know. I honestly don't think that I would have been upset (like I said, mistakes happen.) Eventually, at the end of the day, he tells me that the coil needs replaced and the unit has multiple leaks and it would be cost effective just to get a new unit. So, we agreed that I would get a new unit. After I started this process, I found out that bigger IS NOT better in the case of AC's. That if you get a unit that is actually too big for the space you have, it really isn't cost efficient. However, Farrell's didn't tell me that. According to the square footage of my house, a 3 or 3.5 ton AC unit would have been perfect. The 3.5 ton was actually on the bigger side. Farrell's said that if I had a 4 ton put in, it would work better (in my mind, the cooler, the better.) I don't remember the specifics of the SEER as I have turned over that paperwork to an attorney to review. They said that they were super busy and they could probably have someone out on Monday to put it in. Then, he remembered that Monday was a holiday so he said Tuesday. He said that he would like to do it sooner, but they were just really busy. After he left, I was repeating all of this drama (about the cost and weight of the new unit). He was the one who told me that for my square footage of the house, that was way too big and way overpriced. To make a long story shorter, I got 2 other companies to come out and give me estimates and here is what I learned: 1. BOTH of the other companies could tell that the unit was shot just by looking at it. 2. BOTH of the other guys explained why a 4 ton would not be cost efficient. 3. BOTH of the other guys came in with estimates that were almost half of what Farrell's is. Farrell's had told me that they couldn't make it out to my house until Thursday anyway, so I ended up cancelling. The guy you talk to was upset with me and told me how he has "put a lot of work into my account" (by doing what? Pushing buttons on your computer?) and then tried to tell me that if I cancelled on them, they were going to charge me a $500 restocking fee and how he didn't think that it would be cancelled because I already did the financing. Then,the owner of the company called me and started out by saying that he wanted to know where his company went wrong, but that conversation went wrong quickly. He told me that I didn't know what I was essentially talking about when I was getting estimates from others and he doesn't know what kind of research I was doing to show that there product (Trane) wasn't that great, but that I was wrong. At one point in the conversation he actually told me that "(you) wouldn't understand how it works." It felt to me that he was hearing a female voice on the other end of the line and felt like he could just write me off as some bubble head. After that conversation, I felt that I had made an excellent decision to go another way. Yesterday in the mail I got a bill for $80 diagnostic fee/$70.66 leak search/$114 add first round of refrigerant/$285 additional pounds of refrigerant. I already paid them $300 and now they're saying that I still owe them $249.66 since I didn't use their company. read more

They charged my card before giving me an estimate on cleaning a furnace. It cost me $730 to clean the furnace. No new parts, just cleaning. I called to dispute the charges and to verify what they actually did. I was told the owner would give me a call. I have not received that call yet and it has been about a week. Do not use them. They do not charge hourly like I was made to believe. They charge by job type. Cleaning the furnace took 3 hours, so they charged me $730. That's over $230 an hour. I expected half the price of what I paid. Cleaning a furnace with no new parts should not be that much. I found a few guys in town that would have done hourly. I wish I would have tried them first. read more

Beware- Farrell's has no issues ripping you off. Had a down flow switch go out on a furnace at one of our properties. He charged us $311.00 to temporarily get the unit going. He would come out the following day to install the part to permanently fix it for another $340.00. Total of $651.00. Also was trying to sell me a new unit. Called a different company out and they fixed the furnace parts and labor for $100.00. Will never use Farrell's again!! read more
