I really like this place the people are friendly and so is the owner. I have learned to test dryers in the last few mins of my wash to see if they are heating properly before putting a whole load in wasting a whole hour waiting for clothes that aren't even dry. Also if you lost a quarter because it wasn't working just place sign on the washer so no one else will have the same issue and call the number to let them know what happen they are pretty good at helping you out with that. I have been there at all times from super early when they open to late at night when its almost time to close. Most of the time it's not crazy full but some days it can be crowded. read more

Had to go here when our building's washers broke. It doesn't look great, but it's got a big parking lot and free wifi. One of the owners was collecting coins from the machines and tossed me .75 cents completely unsolicited. That's pretty cool because having to drag your laundry to a location other than your home and pay for it in massive amounts of quarters is annoying. Ehhh. This place's pretty big & open relatively late... They seem to have a decent number of machines 'n boast that they offer free parking in the rear of the building. I believe this is a "____ minutes for $0.25" type laundromat.. (My impression was that the prices are definitely not a deal by any means). - It's not the cleanest place in the world & it definitely feels a little on the ghetto side. Also outdated machines. - Tried using them out of necessity once but due to a lack of sufficient signs/instructions I was unable to gather how much machines cost exactly (they can rip you off blind if you don't choose wisely which laundromat is the best price beforehand). No attendant present. The machines didn't say on them (neither on their displays or posted notice anywhere visible). Patrons using the facility confirmed that the machines were the quarter-for-so-many-minutes kind. - A couple days later I tried to come here to use the change machine being as this place is so close to where I live & I got the owner rudely barking at me to please not use it unless I was going to do laundry there. .. Meh. If there was any chance I'd ever use their facilities, he just blew it away. So, use them if you want, but avoid the rude owner dude and be prepared to be ripped off. I've been coming here since the late 80's with my family. I'm a grandmother now, lol. Always have come here off & on throughout the decades. Recently the sweetheart & I needed to do laundry in a pinch. Mine was down at home. So it's 9:45 on a Saturday night and we're at RAGS. Mr. Art Thoms (one of the owners) was scooting around on his knee scooter, passing out quarters. My sweetheart mentioned he went to school with his son. So, I noticed that my debit card charge still hadn't processed. This was at the end of September..so I called. Spoke with Mr.Thoms, and he was just as nice on the phone as in person. Told me he'd send me my refund from my card. How kind! Now THAT is how customer service should be. I'll always use RAGS because of history. But as an old die hard Raiders fan (I'm a retired fan from any professional sports teams) I couldn't help but be in awe. The gentlemen who clean up & maintain the place are sweet. One night the sweetheart & I were listening to some Lee Oskar while doing our laundry..they started humming along to the music while we were slow dancing..Very pleasant evening at RAGS. But it is a laundry mat kids, so were you expecting champagne & caviar? It's a convenient & fast place to get the dirty deed done. read more

I come here probably twice a week to do laundry and I never have a problem getting a washing machine (or in my case, three of them) or a dryer (again, 3). The place is clean, brightly lit and is open early (6am!). Free parking in the lot behind the place, too (enter on Taylor St) Machine prices vary, but every dryer will cost you $0.25 for 6 minutes. Pay attention to which ones people have been using...usually they're still hot and can cut down on your drying time. The owner is generally there during the days and will sometimes hook you up with a few extra quarters for drying as a "thank you" for giving his establishment your business. I like that. He doesn't have to do it and its a nice touch. Oh, and they now have free Wi-Fi, although I haven't tried it out. I'm never there long enough to need my laptop. Busting through 3 loads of laundry in about 90 minutes...yeah, I'll take that. read more

This laundromat is a bit on the expensive side, but totally worth it. The parking lot is located off of Taylor Street behind the laundromat. There are a lot of machines and they wash your clothes great! They offer different size machines for your different loads so you'll have a good selection. They have front-load and to-load washers. The small front-load washers are $2.50 per wash, but you can stuff the machines and your clothes will come out very clean. Your clothes will come out clean and pretty dry. The dryers are about $.25 for each 6 minutes. For one load, expect to spend somewhere between $1.25-$1.75 depending on how big your load is. Great hours and never crowded. Worth the money. read more

I used to do laundry at East Bay Laundry in Oakland but it's hard to find time to do laundry there, and that's how I found RAG's in Alameda. I would say I'm pretty picky about where I do laundry because I've been to lots of laundromats that do not really upkeep the place. Although at first glance RAG's doesn't look like much (no top of the line washers/dryers or anything like that, no fancy lights to get your attention) I always enjoy coming here to do my laundry. Every time I have been here I have seen someone wiping down machines or sweeping, making sure the place is clean. There's also been a couple times I've seen the owner giving out free dry loads to customers just because. They also sometimes have specials, which I've never seen another laundromat do. They really care about keeping their customers happy and that makes me really appreciate RAG's. Most recently I washed here during the COVID-19 lockdown and they are providing gloves and spray to stay safe while you wash! Thank you SO MUCH for being so thoughtful!! read more

I have been coming here for the past several months and I can't really think of anything negative to say. The machines here are pretty efficient so I can usually get in an out of here in a little over an hour, theres also free wifi so I can work on things while I wait, and the owners are really friendly. I remember one time, the owner randomly walked up to me and gave me some free quarters for drying! They also have free drying during the holidays. All in all, this makes doing laundry a little less painful. read more

Love the place. It's generally clean. There's always available washers/dryers. It's a lovely gesture that you'll often get quarters towards a free dry. It's very convenient for me. Really nice that they got an ATM. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because they got an ATM but the parking lot is dangerous. As soon as I come in the owner comes up to me and gives me coins so that drying can be free! Then I went to go purchase detergent and he gave me some for free also! Who does that?! I found this on yelp and came here because I wanted wifi while I did laundry. However, there is not a single outlet in the entire place. Which means you can't even charge your phone while you wait. I was really annoyed. Nor is there a bathroom!! Don't bother at the automotive store across the street. You'll have to walk to Foster Freeze and buy something to get the key to use there facilities on the outside of the bldg. ugh. On the plus side, I used a side loading washer Andy clothes seemed to have came out really clean. Basic self serve laundromat. $3 for top loading, $2.50-$5.75 for side. What a great laundromat. To be honest, I never come to laundromats. But came here from Oakland per my roommates request, and glad I did! It is clean and comfortable to do laundry in. There is a delicious ice cream shop next door, and I didn't think it was unreasonably priced. A huge bonus was the owner being present, on a Sunday night! It was incredibly sweet and walked around and thanked everyone for our business. He also gave each person. Here a free 24 minutes of drying. I really appreciated him going out of his way to do that. My roommate also said that there was a problem with a machine previously and he wrote an "out of service" note, and the owner mailed him a check with a refund and an apology letter. Customer service is truly above and beyond here! If I ever need to come back to a laundromat, I know where I'll be going! read more

I would like to say that I have been coming here for about a year because they give the option of either coins or card (I always forget to have cash). When I go anytime someone is there cleaning or fixing they are always polite. And just the other day one of the machines decided it didn't wanna work right anymore and I didn't know what to do. Thankfully the owner had his number in case of emergencies and I called him he was very polite and sent someone immediately with in 10 minutes I got my cloth and was able to continue with my laundry. This laundromat has ample parking space and plenty of machines. The upside, they take credit cards!!!! No more lugging around a bag just to drag around $10's worth of quarters. It seems a little run down and there was water dripping from a washer but I couldn't find a cone to place around it to warn people from slipping. They also have different masking tapes to help you remind yourself what machine you used. What a great idea! read more

I been doing my laundry here since I moved to Alameda last year. I come multiple times a week because I can only do one load at a time given the fact that I can only carry so much laundry. I am disable and walk with a cane. Either before, during, or after doing laundry I check my mail at the post office depending on the time of day. I usually park at the end of the parking lot to walk around the corner come back and move my car to the handicap spot when doing laundry, because ever step counts when your walking on a knee that underwent surgery. And this asshole I've never even seen here before (maybe management?!? owner?!? who knows I only ever see the woman here and quite frankly I don't really give a shit he blocked me in when I was trying to move my car. He said I wasn't doing laundry. I told him I'm getting ready to do laundry. I'm here every week. Obviously he doesn't care about customer service or even basic human empathy for a handicap customer right in front of him (probably because I'm black) because he yelled yes yelled like I did something to him (luckily my PTSD wasn't full blown triggered) and said I can't park here and to do my laundry somewhere else all because I needed to take a few less steps and move my car once instead of twice while I call myself multitasking. So I'll be finding somewhere else to do laundry. Don't have to worry about me parking here and using the facilities again. Piss poor customer service like most businesses I've frequented in Alameda until I had to take my business else where. What is Alameda really good for if it can't even service it's own community? Update: To the owners response. Apparently the owner missed the entire part about me getting ready to do laundry. Because he was too busy yelling and telling me to do my laundry somewhere else. I park on the street when I'm not doing laundry like I have all the other days this week when I wasn't doing laundry. I'm confused about what wasn't understood here. How am I taking a parking spot from a customer when I am the customer moving from one spot to another? I guess my black coins don't count and that's fine. And he's lying about the reason he was talking loud through a mask. Talking loud does not require you to bend over and wave your finger around in a hostile manner and snatch things I was reaching for off my vehicle which is my property. Been going here off and on for decades. Guys, update your drying time board. It says 1 quarter is 4 min but machine says 6 min? Actual time on dryers is what is noted on the dryers. Beyond that, thanks for the free quarters i get when one of your owners stops by, and for keeping up with new machines and especially being able to use credit cards on the newer machines!!! read more

I have no idea how much the average laundromat cost in Northern California since this was the closest to my hotel; I was in the area for business and my hotel didn't have a self-service laundry, but it seemed a tiny bit pricier than how much it costs in LA (I've visited at least 6 laundromats and rarely spend more than $5 for a week's worth of clothes, but I spent almost $8 here)... But it's worth it since they do take credit, use newer machines, the dryers do a good job of drying, and the facilities are clean. read more

Love love love this place! My honey and I just moved to Alameda and we were super excited to see a wash house open until midnight, and they have free wi-fi! 6am -12am everyday are awesome hours! They have regular washers, 30, 40, 60, and 80lbs. They also have two 40lbs dryers. Its very clean and the prices are great! While I was washing a gentleman came in to clean up and collect money from the machines. He was so kind ...he thanked me for my business and gave me three quarters for a free wash. How refreshing, business owners who value there customers. While I was waiting in my car, he came by to make sure everything was okay and introduced himself as Art(the owner). On the road I sometimes use laundromats. This place is clean and well maintained. You can use coins or cards to pay for services which is handy. Plenty of parking too. It didn't feel sketchy at all which laundromats sometimes are. Definitely will use it again if in town. read more

I give this place 5 stars because the owners are good guys who run an honest business. At Christmastime, they provide FREE drying for a 3-4 day period as a way of spreading Holiday cheer and thanking customers for their patronage throughout the year. Recently, I encountered a dryer that swallowed quarters but wouldn't run. I filled out the "Out of Service" form, and within a couple of days, the owner called me to say he'd fixed the dryer; also wanted to know my address so he could refund me the 2 quarters I'd lost! This is the kind of small business I want to support!! Additionally, the laundromat is well maintained, there's parking in the back, and it provides WiFi. Other customers very friendly and willing to talk if a conversation is started. Nice location, next to the sea. Area is nice with families and kids playing in parks nearby. I've lived in Alameda for several years and in a few different places around the island. This has given me opportunity of trying several of the coin laundry places around town. What a relief to find a place that is open from 6am-Midnight, is usually kept clean by staff and have machines that are maintained regularly. I recently had an issue with a dryer that was not heating so I had to switch to another machine. Not only did they provide an out of service tag for the machine, a form to file my complaint and an attached pen to do so; I received my refund exactly 2 days later and an extra 50 cents on top of what I'd lost. They have free Wi-Fi for customers AND free parking. It's a win/win all the way around. There's no need to look any further! read more

Didn't try the new credit card, but enjoyed using the atm on site and then the change machine, was nice to not have to get $20 worth of quarters, splits to $5 bills then cash out quarters. $4/wash and about $3 to dry. Best laundromat I've ever used. The guys that run this place work hard to keep it clean and to keep all the machines working. Been using it for years and never had a problem. The change machines always work. They put credit card readers on all the washers and dryers and they also always work. Of course the place gets messy after being used all day, but they clean it up a couple of times a day. Big tables and counters to fold your clothes on, lots of carts to move your clothes around in, a free parking lot in the back off of Taylor, wide range of machines: 20 lb., 30 lb., 40 lb., 50 lb., and a jumbo 60 lb. that you can wash rugs in!
