Almost 14 years later and here I am updating my review. Still great! The free parking lot is the cherry on top...I got in easily on Wednesday morning around 9:30am but if you go during busier times you may have a challenge. I was doing large down comforter bedding so chose 2 of the Mega washers (vs. regular or double load). Each Mega washers takes 37 quarters ($9.25) and runs for 23 minutes. I then transferred to the Dexter dryers which are 25 cents for 5 minutes. It took about 45 minutes for each dryer to get the Cal King down comforter and Cal King thick down mattress topper dry, so about $2.25 each. The only thing I couldn't figure out is if I chose the Dexter dryers that said "Express" on them, if they would dry differently somehow. There isn't any signage around at all telling you how long each machine goes, and what the difference is in capacity, so I never got the answer for that one. But it was clean, all the people doing laundry were friendly, and I went next door and got a breakfast sandwich, so win-win. OH-I almost forgot! The big screen tv playing the Young & the Restless!!! Great, heavy-duty machines, including doubles and triples if you need to do a big load, like one with bedding. Super clean. Near a lot of good things, like the cafe nextdoor. Or a short walk to some good Vietnamese food, a thrift shop, the DollarTree. Also has a cool like patio-like area out back to sit and read. It's a bit pricier than other laundromats -- costs me $5-8+ depending on washer size and dyer time. It went up a bit in the last year. But I still keep coming here so it's worth it to me. My one (mostly silly) gripe is the change machines are kinda picky if your bills aren't immaculate. But there's three of them so just keep going around until one of them accepts it. read more

Been coming here for over 12 years and have never received such poor customer service from the lady working today. (Not Ruby, she's the best) Stepped out to wait for my clothes to get done with the wash and I usually just leave my bags on top on the washer. Came back and one of bags was missing(I had three). Told the worker that someone must of took my bag or threw it away. She shrugged her shoulders and said "not her problem". I asked if I can have a bag since someone stole mine and she yelled " 1 dollar!" Now...one dollar is not a lot but if someone stole my bag and as a regular who spends good money here, I think she handled it poorly and could really care less for my business. I'm at woody's right now doing laundry and this may be the last time I come here. For the last three months, each time I've done laundry the price has gone up. I get that we have inflation but $3.75 a load is ridiculous. I also put a quarter in one of the dryers and the machine ate my money and then didn't start. Lastly, I've been coming to this laundromat for the past ten years - the entire time I've lived in Oakland. I asked to use the bathroom and the person said no. This is a gleaming laundry wonderland! I've been here several times: first when my washer broke, and later to wash sheets since the big washer & dryers there do a better job than my little washer and dryer can. The woman who maintains the place (Sue?) is super helpful if you need laundry tips or the wi-fi password, and there's pretty easy parking outside. Be sure to bring some cash or a bunch of quarters because the change machine doesn't take cards. Otherwise there are ATMs down the street at the bank and in the convenience store on the corner. Last note, about 30 minutes to an hour before closing they want to start cleaning up so you'll need to move to the side where they're not cleaning. Enjoy! read more

I've been coming to Woody' s on and off for probably 20 years. I've always had a great experience. When the washing machine broke where we live, I immediately returned. Quite honestly, there are places to wash closer to me, but Woody's is the best. One of the ladies there saw me before child, during pregnancy and has watched my son grow. She always comments about how big he's getting. I've said the same about hers. Another always stops to thank me whenever I take the cart back. It bothers me that I forgot their names, but I always make sure to chat. The place is always clean, well maintained and always attended. I'll continue to come here until we get a new washing machine. I went to have my comforter washed and it was stolen while still in the dryer cycle. I asked if I can see cameras and the owner looked at cameras 2 days later and my comforter was stolen by someone I saw. The owner didn't do anything to make up for my loss. I thought I could have at least gotten my money back for the Jumbo washer and dryer. read more

I've been coming here for 12 years and two things have changed- the prices have gone way up, and the people just hanging out inside the laundromat have gone up. i had a bunch of laundry stolen out of my dryers a few months ago so I do not recommend leaving while you wait. sucks. read more

After a dozen visits, I'm upgrading Woody's to 5 stars. I've done laundry here at various times of the day and on various days of the week and it's consistently pleasant, clean, and annoyance-free. I only recall seeing a few machines out of order during all my visits combined. Even when it's super-crowded (Tuesday nights...who would have guessed?) I can get in and out in an hour and a half. I especially love hanging out on the patio. Makes me forget I'm actually doing a chore. I can't tell you what a pleasure it is to wash clothes in a CLEAN laundromat. My former laundromat was becoming so disgusting that I would cringe if I dropped so much as a sock on the floor. Thank you, Woody's, for investing in staffing your establishment. I've been going to Woody's for years and have never had an issue. Unfortunately, there have been two times in the last six months where I've washed and dried my laundry and it comes out smelling worse than when it went in. They come out smelling like a combination of a wet dog and a very sour, dirty gym bag. I don't know how it gets like that when I thoroughly dry my laundry on high heat for over an hour. Please start disinfecting and cleaning the machines more often. I'm not sure who is funking up tryout machines but it's nasty. read more

I still won't trust this place when comes to do laundry. It seems the machines ain't sanitize appropriately and sometimes I saw garbage around inside or outside the parking lot. I believe there is a Chinese old lady working there she don't do a good job cleaning the place. I saw her couple times using the same towel cleaning the machines and tables at the same time; that is not clean and many dusts around. She seems very careless or not taking care the customers at all. She got to go for sure. Plus you guys are over-charging for the washing service which is bad. We need more awesome businesses like this in the community. The owner is great, the place is super clean and friendly. They are helpful to all questions you might have. This place has been here for a long time and it continues to thrive thanks to the great owners. Do not go anywhere else! I have a washing machine down and looked all over for a clean good laundry mat and found this one, lots of washers and dryers, lots of parking, street and lot! Came around 6:45am on a Saturday. I'm just getting into the laundromat thing since my apartment doesn't have one. I've always had one in my unit for at least the past 15 years. But whatever. Laundromat is clean. They have parking! Metered parking doesn't start til 8am so that's good. So it took a minute for the clothes to dry....6 mins per $0.25. Some of the clothes came out damp still but no biggie just throw them back in. I guess this would really irritate someone who dries and throws their clothes in a bag and find damp clothes when they get home ‍ Either way I was good. Clothes were dried. Laundry was clean and I could smell my fabric softener which is always a plus. I plan to come back....unless I find an equitable place that takes cards. read more

Very clean and very big inside! A nice out door seating area with tables, chairs, umbrellas and benches. Great place for kids to run around. Nice flat screen TV's inside. There's also a Woodys Cafe next door which is great to grab a coffee or a breakfast sandwich. Woodys laundry has a small free parking lot. With about 9 spaces? But there is also a metered parking lot right behind woodys. All and all a great place! read more

THE DRYERS HERE ARE AWFUL!!! WASTE OF MONEY-BEWARE!! The washing machines are fine- I was able to get a couple loads done within 40 mins and they all seemed to do a pretty great job and functioned fine. But then I spent AN HOUR AND A HALF drying my clothes. I had to go get more change 4 times... it was ridiculous. I finally gave up bc the place was closing and took my still-moist clothes and towels home. I usually go to a laundromat off Broadway, but this one is closer to my house so I thought I'd give it a try. With Washtime Laundromat two doors down, and both with parking lots, it was easy to try both and do a comparison. This one does not do as well at Washtime. There are fewer laundry folding tables for you to use. The machines are smaller and more expensive. They leave your clothes more wet (thus more dry time). I don't know how the dryers perform though because I hang dry my clothes (yes, I feel smug about my eco friendliness). The place also feels more cramped. read more

Best laundromat in the area, worth going a bit out of the way. I managed to fit in insane amount of clothes (probably 3 loads) into a huge washer for only $5.50 and their dryers are efficient. All the machines are well maintained and they have a big area to fold clothes. Not to mention the parking lot! Free parking is a plus. Next door they have a little cafe that you can sit and hangout in while your laundry is going. You can have a cheap bite to eat (breakfast sandwiches, grilled cheese, traditional sandwiches, etc.) or get some tea (lots of choices from hong kong milk tea to yerba mate latte). The dryer in my building doesn't work so well ...I tend to not do my laundry for 2 or 3 weeks...So going to Woody's rather than feeling like a jerk and hogging the one washer and dryer (that takes forever) in our complex is not an option as far as I'm concerned. A friend told me about Woody's before I moved in, and it's a great place. Man, people are right...they are constantly constantly cleaning. The machines are quality machines, they actually clean your clothes, they have super large machines, many many machines, and they're average price. (A 55lb extra large washer costs $5.50....not too bad!). It does the job, I'm never waiting for machines to open up, there aren't creepy people or people hanging out asking for spare change, and hell if you're bored you could go across the street to the little dark friendly dive bar (affectionately used)...There's parking too. read more

I live about 4 miles away from this place. I looked high and low for a clean and modern laundry facility in Oakland. I haven't found any like this place. This place is impeccable and the staff member are courtesy. There is free wi-fi, outdoor patio to lounge, flat screen to watch TV on the wall, free parking area (hard to find), and an area for the kids to watch DVDs. The owners of this place are pretty dedicated and this place well-maintained. And they are friendly people and they care and support their local neighborhood. I sometimes stroll to their cafe, which is next door to check their magazines or check out the local artists' exhibit on their walls. ps. I was harassed by an old man here for the second time today, the first time it was verbal and this time It turned physical when he hit my car repeatedly and then verbally screamed at me. The woman in charge saw what was happening and left me alone with the man anyways. When I ran back inside crying trying to tell her he harasses me every time I come, she shrugged and stormed off. The change machine ACTUALLY WORKS!! It would be better if they accepted cards but hey, it's part of their charm I guess. Machines are never "Out of Order" or broken when I go there, I'm able to get my disgustingly large amount of laundry done in under 2 hours. And, when I don't feel like doing my laundry, they have wash n' fold!!! My lazy butt is all about that wash and fold. Bless those attendants, helping me out and saving me time. I definitely go during non-peak hours as well, lucky me my work schedule allows for being able to do errands in the "off hours" which for me are during the day on weekdays like Monday and Wednesday (Wednesday being better). I have to say I've never been here during peak hours so I can't speak on it, but otherwise IF you can, avoid them at all costs (pretty much the case for any business you go to ever). The only complaint I have about this place, which is never the fault of the business so I'm not docking points for it is: parking. They have a little parking lot, but no matter what it's ALWAYS FREAKING FULL. I don't know what the deal is, my suspicion is people from elsewhere just come and leave their damn cars there for the day, who really knows. So, usually at least one spot may open up while you wait, double parked our front, but otherwise, you can count on street parking. read more

Wash & fold laundry by the pound...where have you been all my life!?! Dropping off your bag o' dirty duds and picking them up all spiffy & folded the very next day sounds like an expensive luxury, doesn't it? Nope, just 95 cents a pound. C'mon now, panties don't weigh much more than that! But it's always the odd-shaped, cumbersome items that I put off washing forever. I came here with 35 pounds of filthy party linens - big black tablecloths all stinky, mildewed, and neglected for too long. I called Woody's to see about the wash & fold service, and they told me to come in and look for the laundry lady. Trying to find "THE" laundry lady in a room full of people doing laundry is quite the challenge. If you can't find her, just call the Woody's # and they'll send her over to you, blind date style. You need to pay in advance for the wash & fold service, then show your receipt when you pick-up. There's a small parking lot just to the right, so dropping off and picking up is ultra breezy. The space is three times the size of the Glenview 'mat and is outfitted with an abundance of newer model, front load machines in 3 sizes with respective 1, 2 and 3 load capacities. A small private parking lot is attached, and a separate, larger metered parking lot is located behind the building. The interior is spotless (ditto the bathroom) and is equipped with numerous adult-height folding tables. I look forward to having the option to stand up straight and fold my clothes with a measure of grace and dignity as opposed to dumping them directly from dryers into baskets and cramming them into bags, either for lack of space or for aid in getting home all the faster. Woody's is staffed with helpful, friendly, WORKING people who don't lurk and cast sidelong glances and otherwise make their customers nervous. Nor do they smoke in the doorway or accuse me of ignoring them when I choose to read a book. I bet they also won't mind if, while my clothes spin in the dryer, I enjoy a little sit and spin on the internet. Free wireless folks!
