The process to set up the lessons for my group was easy, and appreciate Coach James in making this simple. As for the actual lessons, here is a review from my nanny who took my kids to the lessons. She has experienced kiddie soccer lessons from other businesses. She said Coach James SocRoc is thre best. "It's the best soccer I've ever have. Coach James successfully created an activity that is appropriate to the age kids and is not so complicated for them yet exciting to do. He made sure that kids are paying attention and have the voice of authority that kids listen yet not scared to the coach. The substitute coach is the best as well and made sure and even guided whoever have a hard time understanding the activity tho needs a louder voice so he can get kids attention." However, if you have an easy going child who rarely has a hiccup in life then definitely consider Dwight Summer Camp. This is our 6th summer attending a local camp and in past years we have been to Bank Street, Oasis and FastBreak. PROS: Dwight's facilities are gorgeous (i.e., indoor pool, a basketball court, enclosed outdoor space etc.) and their curriculum for Adventure camp was impressive (i.e., seeing a Broadway play etc.). CONS: Unfortunately our experience did not end well. My child is ADHD which I discussed with the camp prior to signing up. I was assured this would not be an issue and reminded that the camp has a low student to counselor ratio and that their staff is comprised of experienced staff working in the field of education. My child does take medication so all things combined, it sounded like a recipe for success. In reality I was called on two occasions and told my child would need to be picked up from camp immediately. On one occasion the person calling stated "we aren't sure what happened but we can discuss when you get here." Call me crazy but as a customer the very least they could do is figure out what happened BEFORE calling me. On another occasion the camp director expressed that I was on speaker phone and "did I want to say anything to my child." My child can be anxious and sensitive so I responded by saying I would speak to them in person since I suspect they may have hard time verbalizing themselves if they are emotional. The director responded with "well, they were doing a good job of verbalizing how much they don't like this camp." Umm, well... my child is 8... and probably upset... maybe even scared... (and, yes) behaving poorly given the circumstances.... but YOU are an adult AND the director so maybe try and show up with a bit more compassion. This is a job for which you are paid to do and I am helping to pay that salary. At the time of that call I was in another state for work but expressed I would reach out to the sitter and ask them to pick-up my child. The director then expressed that my being away might explain my child's poor behavior. Ouch... I felt a bit helpless being half away across the country and that definitely felt like a kick when I was already down. I fully admit that my child is rambunctious, sometimes difficult and never perfect. They are also kind, smart, loving and desperate to feel like they belong. I've gotten my fair share of calls or requests "to speak." It's never fun and more often than not I feel disappointed but I show up, I listen and I work hard with my child to ensure the next day is a better day. Having been at this for several years I've encountered many people who lack compassion and probably should find another profession. I expect it. But in the years I have been doing this, never has a camp or program demanded I pick-up my child. In the 3 weeks we attended Dwight we had more good days then bad but the bad days were handled so poorly that I am certain we won't be returning.

They were cooperative with my predicament offering a solution. I was instructed I could return a trophy I found to their office. It was my idea because I wanted to be helpful. I was told by Todd he would meet me in front and to call when I arrived. I called when I reached the front stoop. I spoke to another employee who was equally as nice and helpful. Within a heartbeat Todd came out and introduced himself. I gave him the lost trophy and we chatted momentarily. Problem solved. If the owner doesn't claim it maybe they can use it for next baseball season. I'm also fond of this organization as they sometimes play at the park across from my apartment. The children have great uniforms and do appear to be having a good time. I noticed the good reviews were years ago. I hope things haven't changed. That's why it's so important to review everything!

I think it's important to note that I didn't even live in this neighborhood but my parents were so taken by this organization that they drove me half an hour into the city every weekend so I could be a part of the team, even though there were plenty of other youth softball leagues closer to home. I always felt that this league was very well-organized in terms of scheduling games & practices. The coaches really loved their job & took it very seriously. Each coach took his time to assess my strengths and weaknesses on the field and gave me plenty of helpful tips to improve my game. Another thing I loved about Yorkville was the feeling of camaraderie not just within the team but amongst the families of all the teammates. On many occasions (especially after big wins), all of the players, coaches & parents would get together & go out for dinner to socialize. But what I liked most of all was getting to play games at a bunch of different fields across the city, from Riverside Park to Central Park to Chelsea Piers. I used to be a gymnast many many moons ago and wanted to see if I could still do some tricks, but on very bouncy surfaces. Cory was so kind and patient with me and he really left a lasting impression, so we kept in touch. When my friend told me her son was interested in gymnastics, of course Cory immediately came to mind! We ended up stopping by this past weekend and I was so happy to see what Cory has accomplished. Lots of equipment especially for children, combined with his signature helpful, kind demeanor and fun yet safe approach was such a great experience for my friend and her son. Our kids got to see what different aspects to gymnastics there are, try out different exercises and equipment, and get a sense of basic skill level. He's highly skilled--not just technically, but in how he connects with each individual. He pays close attention to every player, meets you where you are, and focuses on the small details that truly elevate your game. His feedback is honest yet always encouraging, and he never gives up on you. He works through your struggles with you in a motivating way until it clicks--and when it does, the progress is undeniable. I'm miles ahead of where I was when I first started, and I can't imagine not continuing. Beyond tennis, he's incredibly knowledgeable and engaging, which makes every session even more enjoyable. It's two tennis courts at this location hidden in an apartment building, like a speak easy:-) There are private and semi private lessons and classes available in three locations in midtown east/UES. You can register for an ongoing class or drop in using the Mind Body app. They offer 10 and 20 pass deals with a price that can't be beat in Manhattan and comparable to the other boroughs. I love the drop in option especially in the Winter when my doubles group is less active. There's a lobby, locker rooms and bathrooms and tennis racket/stringing service. There were six of us in the advanced beginner class. Tate was great and kept us moving providing helpful instruction along the way. Excellent class and I hope to do it again soon. The amenities are basic but the instruction/class and class pricing was top notch.
