The setup of this camp allows children to really take ownership of their day, from what they choose to play, to when they eat a snack, to who they spend their time with. In Nov I called to enquire about their preschool program for 2s and expressed interest in visiting the school a few days later. The woman I spoke to over the phone told me there was one spot left. I told her I would wait to see the facility but she said I could secure a spot with a $5000 completely refundable deposit if I cancelled before April (as the spot would likely go before my visit). I paid, my mom ended up at Sloan Kettering the next day, then my daughter was sick, and the holidays came and went. But none of that matters. I was told I had until April. I requested a refund and was told ten days later refunds were not given. I spoke with the front desk- the employee who gave me a false verbal policy and processed my payment no longer worked there. Surprise! After the front desk spoke with the district manager I received a terse email 24hrs later requesting me to read their policy. I would have loved to read their policy, if I were given one before payment. I would've loved to have signed something via email or in person but still haven't even walked by the location. Sending me their real policies after payment doesn't matter, as there are no refunds period. I'm asking for a refund for a program 9 MONTHS in advance and I never signed a contract. No refunds. Must be a very in demand place. Update: I hired a lawyer and they promptly refunded my money.

Legacy has a fun, busy and educational summer camp but also continues to expand with other programs within the camp. They utilize the summer months and every hour to its fullest; 3 days out of the week were field trips, super hot days were "wet days" (park hopping with sprinklers), chuck E Cheese trips (board games, musical chairs, tablets and summer homework) on rainy and the list goes on. We also go to open play about twice a week. What's great is that you get a large number of open plays when you sign up for a class. You sign up for a weekly class (or two different ones if you'd like), and they're very accommodating with makeups if your baby happens to nap at your schedule time, so it's money well spent. They have all kinds of props and gym structures, as well as trampolines and musical instruments. Having rambunctious babies and toddlers cooped up in the apartment during this cold weather isn't great-so this place is definitely meeting a need. Mike and Chanelle who do musical tots are truly exceptional- high energy and extremely talented musician and singers. We have Kristen for our regular gym class and she's great, my son really likes her. Truth be told not all staff are top notch but none are bad. The differences are more pronounced when going to open play depending on who the assigned staff member is- some will take out different toys and props, some won't or barely will. The main reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that they've been taking a long time to cover up the metal spokes that stick out of the bars-not safe for little ones and this issue has been brought up to them several times since they opened in Sept. My nephew's maternal grandmother found this program and thought it would be a great opportunity for him just before school starts back in September 2026. Unfortunately, by the third day, it had already turned into a completely bad experience. There were only five kids in total, and my nephew was the oldest. Despite being 13 and physically big, he's not a street kid or aggressive, but this grown man seemed to have serious anger issues and appeared to enjoy picking on the kids. According to my nephew, they were doing drills when he started throwing his ball along with the other kids. Suddenly, this man began screaming at him and told him to sit on the sidelines. My nephew asked why, especially since his aunt had paid for him to be there, and explained he didn't know throwing the ball was wrong because the other kids were doing the same. Yet, the man continued yelling aggressively. Then, in a challenging and threatening tone, he told my nephew to throw the ball again as if expecting him to fail or do something "wrong." When my nephew complied, the man quickly approached him, puffing up his chest and nearly touching him, yelling even more. My nephew asked him if he was looking to fight. Later during the lunch break, the man called my nephew's grandmother, lying that my nephew had tried to fight him. Here is my concern: if a child did something you didn't want, there is a respectful way to address it without making them feel attacked. As the adult, your role is to teach and mentor the children, not to yell and scream at them. Parents and relatives pay for these programs with the expectation that kids will learn and have fun, not be subjected to intimidation and aggression. And then to escalate matters by calling the parents with false accusations? That shows a complete lack of integrity. We all have misunderstandings, but asserting authority through yelling, talking down to kids as if they're not human, or acting aggressively is not correct or acceptable. All the kids are talking about how terrible this program is and how this man constantly yells at them. Before you rate this program positively, please talk to your kids about their actual experience. No child is perfect and children's behavior can be uncontrollable at times, but it's the adults' responsibility to communicate respectfully with parents, not act aggressively as though they are challenging another adult. Maybe this is why only four kids remain enrolled. Parents and guardians, please do your due diligence. Unfortunately, this kind of unprofessional, disrespectful behavior is something we only see among certain adults in underserved Black and Brown communities.

Adam Wallach and Ken Barer do an incredible job of running the camp, marketing it, communicating with parents, rallying kids for weekly spirit days -- and generally rockin' it. The kids swim twice day and are given just the right amount of freedom for their age. My guy was thrilled to ride his bike around on trails independently (without a grownup following closely) in mountain biking. Picky eater though he is, he seems to eat decently well, carbo-loading every day at lunch. Kids get occasional treats like fruit sushi, which the kids get to make themselves, trips to an ice cream truck, and cold (not-too-unhealthy) popsicles in the afternoon. Our guy kept telling us about eating fresh strawberries at lunchtime that were picked, he said, from the camp's own strawberry patch. (I can't verify this claim; it did seem like it'd take an improbably long growing season and an awfully, awfully large patch of strawberries to supply all those hungry kids for the summer.) Counselors keep the kids hydrated in the heat, buses are shockingly timely (MTA should take note!). Bus counselors do a great job of communicating bus arrival times. Activities are varied and interesting, including options like "mining," water works, pottery, archery, crafts, farming(!), all manner of sports (tennis, soccer, baseball, etc..) -- and there is always something new going on. My guy was excited to go from the moment he woke up each morning. Yes, the camp is guilty of blatant cultural appropriation -- but we get that at this point, there's monetary value in the branding that makes change difficult. At least they're changing the logo in coming years. We'd be thrilled if they actually taught the kids a bit about the tribes of the Haudenosaunee / Iroquois Confederacy that the groups are named after. (Our son reports that there is some sort of small "museum" on the grounds with a few artifacts found on-site.) We did some of our own research. All in all a fabulous, fun way to spend the summer. Our guy is counting the years until he gets to be a counselor himself.
