Always have seen this food stall whenever I'm in New York Food Court. Never thought of stopping by to try until now. No ambience since it's inside the food court. They have both savory and sweet types of flatbreads. I would usually go for the savory than the sweet version.
However, I was looking for a dessert after eating a huge bowl of noodles just 15 mins before. Influenced by the YouTube Channel of @WorldWideWu, I made it to Fat Cat Flatbread 30 min before closing time. They mainly accept cash although Venmo + Zelle are also other payment options. Freshly served as a quick snack or a light meal.
Popular Flavors/Fillings
* Savory: Spicy Pork, Black Pepper Beef, Preserved Veggies with Pork, Curry Beef, BBQ Chicken, Salted Egg Yolk + Pork Floss.
* Sweet: Red Bean Paste, Maple Sugar, Brown Sugar, Black Milk Tea.
Ordered a Black Milk Tea Flatbread since it sounded interesting. Should've gone with something familiar like the Red Bean Paste instead. Couldn't taste any milk tea or any tea flavor at all. In my book, it defeated the purpose of calling something black milk tea when there wasn't even a hint of it (kinda a fail smh).
The taste of black sugar was visible as the filling though, just not around the edges as it was rather dry/plain/bland. Definitely eat it while it's hot because the texture would be totally different once it's cold. I think these flatbreads really need to include some sort of dipping sauce (e.g. ketchup/mustard/honey mustard/spicy mayo/bbq sauce etc).
Overall, the flatbread was light and crispy. Surprisingly, it didn't feel/taste greasy when I started devouring it unlike I had originally thought it might be. Did I mention that it happened to be triple the size of my face? Basically, I could hide behind it lol. That's the fun part.
But maybe next time, I would just go back and stick with the savory versions. Seems like the Black Pepper Beef and/or BBQ Chicken would be more reliable (aka a safer option) for flatbread in general. I don't think you can go too wrong with meat options, right?
Service from staff = fast and friendly. Very affordable too since the whole menu is under $10. There's a *daily* buy three get one deal if you happen to have a huge appetite or if you wanna try different flavors at once....
The Black Milk Tea Flatbread is $5.
Would I get it again? No!
Would I try other flavors? Yup.
Good thing it's not expensive.... read more
