Fat Louie's is such an odd dingy place but for some reason, I keep coming back every couple of months or so. This is a run down dingy looking karaoke/ pool hall that sometimes puts on punk and hardcore gigs (I find this really random). I do not think I could ever make this place my local but it has its perks. For instance- really cheap drinks. First time I came to Fat Louie's was for a friend's karaoke birthday event. Since it was a large group of us, we were placed in one of the larger karaoke rooms which consisted of a few tables, plenty of seating space and a descent size area for us to dance and groove away. The place looked like it had not been refurbished since the mid 90's but whatever, we all had a blast singing our favourite 90's tunes whilst sipping on $4 basic spirit drinks. Since that first experience, I have been here for a couple of drinks, punk shows and to play pool. That's another good thing about Fat Louie's- they have plenty of pool tables (I suck at pool, but I find it to be lots of fun anyway). Apart from the nights that they host gigs, the music they place here is really not my cup of tea- RnB, Hip Hop, Rap. I endure it though, because no where else in the city sells drinks as cheap as this place. Dispite its dinginess, Fat Louie's seems to have a strong following. At the end of the day, if you are having fun who cares if the walls aren't clean of the carpet is sticky. read more

This place has been here for what seems like forever. You almost have to know where it is to find it, heading into a small doorway and up some narrow stairs. If you want live music (bad metal bands with equally bad metal hair), cheap drinks, cheap pool and karaoke rooms, this is your place. Don't get me wrong. I'm rather fond of Fat Louie's. But it's incredibly dodgy, which is part of its charm. You WILL stick to the floor. There's an area with couches around booths, with vinyl seating for no doubt easy cleaning. It's dark, dingy, and feels like you're going to die if there's a fire. Just what you want for a late night visit to a bar. If you've never been, get down here. read more

I've had trashy nights here that I won't ever be able to live down. I cringe whenever I see the photos of me strip teasing for an entire private karaoke room wearing nothing but a Mexican wrestling mask and a sequined bikini. Ouch. Or there's the secret recording of me that was released mid my performance of a particularly heartfelt version of "Paradise By The Dashboard Light". What I'm trying to say here is that it's impossible to not have a killer time at Fat Louie's. It doesn't matter what you're doing- playing pool, doing karaoke or watching some shitty punk gig- you're guaranteed to have a great time. The cheap tinnies of Tooheys New they sell across the bar help a lot. On Sundays, a private karaoke room will set you back $30 for 2 hours. The pool tables are $14 per hour. Get a pile of mates together and it's easy done. The private karaoke rooms are generally fairly spacious and in good nick. It doesn't really matter though- at the end of the night you'll be crawling over each other, grabbing for the microphone. You'll be jumping on and off tables, doing air kicks, stripping, making out with someone on the floor, and you're not going to give a damn about anything. Just expect the staff to come in and tell you to stop standing on the table and messing with their stuff. It's their job. Don't have a tantrum, just be agreeable. You do not want to get kicked out. It's not karaoke when you're on the street screaming at random strangers. read more

This is a karaoke joint of last resort. A really poor song selection. The rooms are dodgy-okay and the drinks are cheap but overall it's not a great place. Fat Louie's is the perfect place to visit on a night out if you're adventuring with a group of people who don't know each other very well. Because they'll get to know each other pret-ty well as the night progresses. (I came with my housemate, a girlfriend, and a traveller I met on Couchsurfing.) Climb your way up their steep staircase and you'll surface to find a giant, dimly-lit space complete with a bar, snooker tables, and karaoke booths. We came to Fat Louie's for the karaoke, which is $20/hr for 2 people, and $30/hr for 3 to however many people you can cram into the room. Even if you've come with shy friends who have never braved the stage, the cheap beers and basics will have their tongues loosened in no time. There's an extensive collection of songs to choose from, including karaoke classics like 'Fast Car' to the latest pop anthems...in every Asian language imaginable. The accompanying video clips are also priceless. Think C-grade actors lip syncing to famous ballads (badly) with extreme soft focus. It's tacky and amazing. We had a few technical problems with the microphones (we may have spilled a drink or two on them...) but the staff were understanding and the time spent fixing the equipment didn't cut into our hour. There's a certain grunginess to Fat Louie's that not all patrons will appreciate. I'm talking about sticky carpet and toilet tiles grunginess, but don't let those factors deter you. And chances are you'll be too far gone on booze and bad music for it to matter. read more

The ultimate Hipster/Emo/"you look underage" hangout, deffo the cheapest spirits in the city when its happy hour, but has a very seedy feel, dont get me wrong, i am not saying i hate the place, its pretty good when you wanna belt out some tunes, or have a pool battle with some mates or some randoms, but not the kinda place i would be a regular. Fat Louie's and I go way back. The late night routine at Uni was often broken up by a random karaoke and pool sessions at this venue. We'd discuss the meaning of life and who's in which lecture, then and enjoy cheap drinks. The people who work there are such great characters. At the end of the night, they'll end up being your best mates. What drove me to this place the first time, was my quest for a karaoke bar in the city. Although, it doesn't share the same exciting ambience as others I've been to, it does have its charm. This venue is fitted with all the basic needs a Uni kid would require; old couches, random chairs, pool table, karaoke rooms and bar. The lighting in there is quite dim and a bit shady but that is to be expected for a very casual place like this. Inside Fat Louie's it's all cool and laidback, but in the karaoke room is where all the magic happens. When you're in there is like being in a parallel universe and no one on the outside of that room matters, you loose your calm collected self and just go all out. Why wouldn't you when there are around 100,000 song choices available and in several different languages? The karaoke list is updated often so you're sure to find some of the latest, perhaps even the latest from Lady Gaga. The rooms have comfy lounges, a table for your drinks a decent karaoke screen. What I've noticed about this place is that despite it's somewhat shadiness, it still manages to draw in an international crowd of people. Mainly Uni students, but I have spotted quite a few businessmen and businesswomen in there belting out some ballads. read more

This is the worst pub/ bar I have ever been too. The interior is disgusting and out dated. The staff are rude and immature, arguing with me like children when I was trying to have an adult conversation with them about COVID rules. Disgraceful customer service - the staff member who spoke to me should be ashamed of himself the way he treated myself and my friends!! Cannot stress enough how much of a terrible experience I had at this venue - I will never visit here again. read more

Fat Louie's is holed up in a little area up some flight of stairs on the first floor, through an unsuspecting door, along a normally buzzing Albert Street. If you didn't know of its existence beforehand, you'd never even know it was there. It's good like that, Fat Louie's. It's the perfect place to hide from someone because you can just duck in off the street and have a cheeky drink easily. It shares its slightly ominous stairway with a costume shop; you just have to know which one is the right door. I don't mind popping in to Fat Louie's, but the place is a little dingy. It's not where I'd prefer to spend a portion (no matter how small) of my weekend when I feel I could be having much more fun elsewhere. People at Fat Louie's always seem more morose than others; it's kind of depressing. It actually seems like the sort of place more suited to the Valley so I suppose it's a pretty good haven for people who normally prefer to frequent the Valley and feel a bit out of sorts in the city, yet find themselves trapped there nonetheless. Mind you, I like the Valley, and I'm not overly fussed on Fat Louie's. Fat Louie's is technically mutton dressed as lamb, if you will. I'm impressed that it's managed to keep such a firm foothold in the city for so long though. When I go out in the city however, I've normally psyched myself into a going-out-in-the-city frame of mind, and Fat Louie's doesn't really fit that mould. Still, Fat Louie's randomly hosts live bands, so if you're not fussy it can be quite enjoyable to crash comfortably into a lounge and sip your beverage. I'm all for checking out places at least once, so I'd definitely say go and have a look at Fat Louie's and see what you think. read more

When I was a high school kid Fat Louie's was where we'd go on a Friday afternoon for a few games of pool with mates (training for the pub sport which would occupy a decent chunk of our attention in years to come).Usually this meant putting $2 coins in the pub-sized tables and occasionally challenging ourselves to the full snooker sized tables for $14/hour. Now that I'm a post-tertiary kid it's mainly karaoke that occasionally brings me back to the big guy, coupled with good old (legal) alcohol consumption. These guys do highball mixes by the jug which makes things interesting... Fat Louie's is one of the select few places you can go for the Japanese-style private room karaoke experience, with an extensive range of hits from today and yesteryear, plus a number of different languages on offer. The prices aren't exactly cheap, and it is a bit of a cash grab, with the rates going up the more people that you have in the room (it's $20/hour for 1-2 people, $30/hour for 3-8 people & an additional $5/hour for each person thereafter) -- but hey, those high-quality video clips don't pay for themselves! If you like to keep thrifty you might consider heading in early. Daily from 12pm-5pm they offer half-price rates on karaoke and pool. read more

Even if it is one of the oldest buildings in Brisbane, it's certainly not without its charm. Full sized pool tables, friendly staff, cheap prices & hidden away. During the week the games are even cheaper. They also have live bands on the weekends which brings a neat vibe. read more

This place is an absolute disgrace, had a hens night here and for the price u pay per person is an joke we got 2 trays of food that wasn't even cooked properly as in you couldn't eat it at all, the bar man in our private function room (whom we later found out was the manager) hit the hen up for a pash not once but twice which is completely unacceptable and unprofessional......The toilets were broken with pee all over the floor which was disgusting, there is not one word u could say in a positive way besides don't even walk up the stairs.....run far away! read more

Worst customer service I have ever received!! Had booked a private karaoke room for a large group between 8.30 and 11.30 last Saturday night, unfortunately we were running late, but had called to let them know to be told that was fine. Got to Fat Louie's to be told they had given our room away. The man at the front desk was so rude and did not care that our group was obviously upset, even your door men were shocked that our room had been given away and how rude the guy on the front counter was to us. Will never waste my time with this establishment again and I will never recommend this place, so disappointed. read more
