The room was clean and spacious, we never felt cramped. There is a small TV, telephone, air conditioning, mini bar, safe, wi-fi, bathroom with shower, hairdryer and toiletries. There was a large free private parking lot which was very convenient for us. The website said multilingual staff and that really wasn't the case it was Italian but we got by okay. The pool wasn't open yet but it looked really nice with lots of outdoor seating options. RESTAURANT: Breakfast Buffet: Included every morning was a selection of home-made bread, cakes, pies, croissants, biscuits, cold meats and salami, cheeses, boiled eggs, assorted cereals, various jams, honey, chocolate, yogurt, fresh seasonal fruit and dried fruits, a wide selection of tea, fruit juices, cold milk and hot beverages including made to order espresso drinks. ****BEST CROISSANTS I'VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE**** Dinner: Definitely make a reservation - this was one of my favorite restaurants in my 9 days of Italy including three Michelin star restaurants, this place topped all three of those restaurants for value, flavor, presentation and service. What really topped this trip off was that the owner of the hotel consistently went out of his way to not only introduce himself and offer to places for us to visit while on our trip but also checked in frequently and wished us safe travels when we were departing. My family and I have only good things to say about this hotel and wish we could have extended our trip so that we could have enjoyed our stay even longer.

Travelers, please beware…read more Conti di San Bonifacio does a great job in marketing and creating the allure of a beautiful, hillside winery and retreat in Tuscany; the grounds look beautiful. However, in reaching out to their team to cancel our honeymoon, sadly, due to COVID-19 and travel restrictions and health risks, their response was: "Regarding your deposit, as you know we are unable to make refunds as per our Hotel policy." I can see if we were still coming to Italy... wanted to stay somewhere else, and gave them little notice.  However, I shared that we would love to book at a later date, but that we would like to fully cancel and start fresh when the world has calmed down. The Deputy Manager on staff has doubled down on "hotel policy," ignoring the force majeure (unforeseeable circumstances that prevent someone from fulfilling a contract) that will preclude us from going to Italy in the foreseeable future (from Hawaii, mind you, 8,000 miles away). The other three hotels we booked - in Bellagio, Cinque Terre, and Florence - all got back to us with full refunds and messages that essentially say, "sorry to hear, we get it, can't wait for you to rebook with us."  Conti di San Bonifacio got back to us and essentially shared that our deposit was more important to them than our experience, contract or no contract, honeymoon or no honeymoon.  This is a poor display from a hospitality organization that claims superior, world class service and experience. I am sure people can go and stay at Conti di San Bonifacio and have a great time; I am sure the grounds are beautiful, the suites luxurious, the food wonderful, and the wine amazing.  However, what they still need help understanding is that the customer experience must always come first - that is where their reputation, credibility, and integrity will be earned.  And that 700 Euro up front would have been 3500 Euro this summer or fall, if only the customer and the customer experience was first. Holding deposits during a global pandemic, and referring to your hotel policy, is a trite, short-term business strategy that puts the core values and ethos of Conti di San Bonifacio on display.  It is my hope that they can evolve from their near-sightedness and evaluate whether or not they are truly world class.

You arrive and are greeted by the friendly staff and handed a glass of wine, your room is reasonably priced and on the larger side with views from pretty much every room. Large and VERY comfortable beds, the rooms are a classic and simple style, yet each room still has its own unique personality, private bathrooms in suite, wifi on property, an infinity pool next to the building, and one of the most interesting and comfortable common areas you've ever seen in a resort/B&B environment. This is a place you would want to come for your honeymoon, but reasonable enough you can return ever year, and friendly enough you'll want to return at least once a season.

Breakfast is included and the man who was the barista was very nice and friendly. He makes tasty coffees with pretty foams. The breakfast room has a beautiful view too. Check in and check out was a breeze. They do have good WiFi here. It's a short walk up a steep hill to restaurants and shops. Parking is included with the hotel but spaces are pretty tight. We had a van and it unfortunately got dented in the process of trying to fit into the parking spot we were given. We were in a triple room which was a twin sofa bed and a king size bed upstairs in a loft. It was a big room. The restroom was a little dated and there was some mold in the shower. You need to return your key to the front desk every time you leave the hotel. You pick it up when you come back.

The bathroom was super clean. Ahhh. Hotel is right in the village and we had windows and a balcony overlooking the port. It was in walking distance to the beach and the village. The hotel staff was friendly and and remembered details about us every time they saw us (in a helpful, not creepy way). They had trustworthy entertainment for kids, so that we could leave our daughter for an hour or two on Saturday evening -- essentially free babysitting -- while we strolled around the village. I eat gluten free and the sweet hotel restaurant staff remembered and always brought me a gluten free plate of bread with my meal (not that I wanted it! :) ) and brought me a basket of gluten free pastries to choose from every morning. By only the second morning, as soon as they saw me enter the breakfast room, they swept upon me making sure I had good options for breakfast (again, not that I wanted pastries, but...). And, in general, they made sure every other meal was gluten free and seemed to tell the kitchen staff to watch out for contamination. The only troubling thing I could even think to say about the hotel is that they put us in a suite with a room for our 4 yo that has a balcony that she could access. We were able to work around it to prevent her from accessing it without us, but...kinda dangerous. Overall, clean, spacious, friendly, good food....kinda homey. Did I say clean? Second, the main tasting building is absolutely lovely - all glass (for those aforementioned views) and a perfect mix of modern and traditional. Finally, the WINE! Not only was their wine absolutely delicious, but it was paired with some excellent bread, olive oil, and charcuterie to complete our tasting experience. Our host was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly and it was a treat to learn about the history of these great winemakers. We loved everything so much we immediately bought bottles to take home for dinner and shipped a crate home, too. One of our favorite afternoons of our entire trip to Tuscany.

Incredible luxury hotel in the Tuscan countryside! Situated on a hillside overlooking the south…read moreTuscan countryside, above the Banfi winery, this is a beautiful boutique hotel. One has to drive around the hillside if you are approaching from Rome, so you get to appreciate the majestic buildings. The road in is cypress-lined and magnificent. The car park is a little ways away from the hotel, so th staff comes out with a golf cart to bring you and your luggage up to the reception, where you get greeted by a glass of Banfi wine! It is always available as courtesy either in the reception or the library (which is in the castle). The 14 rooms are in the old homes of the supporting help for the castle, so each is different and unique. We had the Principessa, located just across the cobblestone path from the cafe/bar and the swimming pool. It was the old schoolroom for the children of the workers, with a beautiful view to the west, overlooking the vast vineyards extending down the hill. There was a courtesy bottle of Banfi prosecca awaiting us. Since the weather was so hot (~40 degrees C), the fact that we had excellent AC was much appreciated. We enjoyed the solitude of the swimming pool at sunset, the bar with excellent wine and cocktails and small plates, the breakfast buffet and the excellent gourmet restaurant. Dining outside late in the evening, we enjoyed a thoroughly leisurely Italian dinner, with some excellent local recipes updated for the modern palate. The location is perfect for exploring the town of Montalcino and the surrounding countryside, i.e., wineries! Poggio Antico is nearby, but our favorite, Caparzo was a little drive on the opposite side of the town. A car is a must to get around Tuscany, but well worth the cost. Our biggest problem was finding and figuring out the car washes (lavatorias), since the dusty back roads left the car covered in dirt! We thoroughly enjoyed our few days in the countryside before heading onto the cities of Siena and Firenze. Now we just need to figure out when we can go back!
