Faye personally did my make up for a series of head shots and I liked the finished look so much that I had her itemize and order for me all of the make up she used on me and the tools she used to apply it. We booked this agency based on their yelp reviews. Sadly the makeup/hair skills did not match what was shown in our artist's portfolio. You never communicate with the Artist directly until the date of the service; instead you get multiple "service coordinators" who ask you to choose one from a list of available artists on your chosen date and time. Faye Smith Agency Review - NOT RECOMMENDED. For our November 2018 elopement to Vancouver, BC I wanted amazing hair and make-up for the big day. Our wedding planner referred Rose Quartz http://www.rosequartzbeauty.ca/ however I was unable to get up to Vancouver for a required trial session with Rose Quartz as we were traveling from out of the country, so was unable to use them....something I regret!!! Back to Faye Smith Agency...my grand total invoice was $624.75 (gratuity not included) Before the wedding, for about 6ish weeks I communicated via email with who I thought was Faye Smith, owner of the company, who would be doing my hair and makeup. I was asked for inspiration photos for hair and make-up and was told the look I wanted was doable. At some point, after signed the original contract I added hair extension rentals, which were added to the quote. A week before our wedding I was told a woman with a different name, let's call her Alice (fake name), would be doing my hair and make-up in our hotel room. Alice? Who was Alice? Could I talk with her before the wedding? Could I see her portfolio? I was told no due to privacy issues. So Alice could know my information as the customer, but all I could know about Alice was her first name. When I asked how Alice would know what I wanted as I had been emailing Faye, I was told all my pictures would be added to my file for Alice. So Alice was a lovely person who arrived on time. She had no clue what I wanted other than she was told I wanted a messy updo. So at 6am we had to start from scratch as far as how I wanted my hair and makeup to look as I had to be ready to go by 8am. Basically the many emails sent between Faye and myself were a colossal waste of time. In the end, my makeup looked good, but not exactly the smokey eye I was hoping for. I had to touch up my eyebrows a bit myself and one edge of my lashes wasn't adhered to my eyelid. My hair was not great. The top was flat against my head, which I specifically said I didn't want. Only three single clip hair extensions were used in my hair at a total cost of $225....just for the hair extensions. My hair style was more fitting for a young girl attending the prom instead of a middle aged bride. The style created did not represent the inspiration photographs I submitted. Honestly, I feel that the stylist Alice did a great job under the circumstances. It seemed she was thrown in at the last minute and was not provide with much information. However, this is not the service I was expecting for $624.75. The three hair extensions used were rentals that costs $75. They were added to my contract as an afterthought, so I wasn't aware they were to be returned in 5 days time or you would lose your deposit. Faye and I even emailed about the extensions and she told me just to "pop them in the mail" afterwards with no addition of within 5 days. The information was in the contract, but since I added the rental extensions as an afterthought, I missed that part of the contract. My bad. When Alice was doing my hair, I stated let's forget the extensions and she said...well let's just put a few in. The color didn't even match my hair color. So, I got the three, single clip, nasty brassy hair extensions added to my hair. Our wedding was on Saturday. Sunday we left for our honeymoon. Thursday, which was Thanksgiving in the USA, we returned home. Saturday the three little hair extensions went in the mail to Canada. Due to a postal strike they were not received by the Faye Smith Agency timely which result in the loss of my $150 deposit. So in the end, three little hair extensions cost $225. Out of all of our wedding vendors, the Faye Smith Agency was the most disappointing. No confirmation email ahead of our event or even an email after to check in. All our other vendors both confirmed and thanked us for our business after the wedding. If you are considering using this company for your wedding or event, I would recommend you take your business elsewhere. . read more

We booked 2 makeup artists and 1 hair stylist for a wedding in DT Vancouver. One of the makeup artist was late for half an hour because apparently their reasoning was that she misread the suite number and buzzer... The hair stylist was supposed to show up at 6am, we PAID for extra early morning fees and travel cost, etc, well she didn't show up until 8:20am!!! Apparently there was issue with her car? But it wasn't like we were in the middle of no where, the bridal suite is in DT Vancouver. Well my friend the bride was so stressed out at that point literally 2 bridesmaid including me just did our own hair to reassure her that it wasn't a bad start to her wedding day. When this super late hair stylist finally arrived, she had trouble parking as well so we had to go out and get her AND PAID FOR HER PARKING because she had card issues??? We didn't even get an apology. When we complained to the agency, they only refunded us the bare minimum and told us the artist will not pay us back for parking. But like, we paid extra just to cover these extra costs! This entire experience was just so awful, not only was the communication exceptionally terrible, the hair stylist didn't even do a good job on the only one bridesmaid's hair that she did because she arrived so late there was literally no time for anyone else. We will never recommend this service to anyone, and I highly suggest booking elsewhere. This agency does not understand contractual law. We have written communication and receipts as proof should any brides-to-be wish to reach out to confirm the validity of our experience. read more

The two stylists assigned to my wedding, Tarah (make-up) and Taryn (hair) did a great job in regards to skill. Tarah stayed true to the look I was going for, and was responsive when I made a change from my trial look. I loved the lip colour she created on my wedding day (as a result of my requested change), and she introduced me to a great brow filler which I now use regularly. As someone who has very thick, tight natural curls, having a stylist that is comfortable with curly hair was very important to me. Taryn fit the bill, helped by the fact she has curly hair herself. She took my ideas into consideration, making suggestions based on the reality of my hair type. I was happy with the end result, and she too was accommodating of a minor change from my trial style to my wedding day look. The reason for my low rating is because of the disappointing level of customer service I experienced throughout my dealings with Faye Smith Hair & Make-up. I found Faye to be overly focused on money, and not focused enough on customer service. There were times she should've picked up the phone to talk an issue through, but instead there would be endless emails to discuss a matter. When the make-up artist I was first scheduled to work with ended up with a conflict for the day of my trial, Faye told me I'd have to have my hair and make-up trials on different days. This made no sense, as obviously you want to assess your look as a whole. It was me that had to suggest that she book me with a different make-up artist, a solution she should've come up with herself. Even then, she didn't acknowledge my suggestion, but instead was silent until responding a few days later, when she confirmed Tarah as my new make-up artist. The silence in the interim was stressful for me. When one of her staff members asked at the last minute if the trial could be done at my house, the staff member lied to me as to the reason why (I know this because the make-up and hair artists told me the real reason themselves), which I didn't appreciate. There are several more examples I can give - but the gist of it is, I found communication with Faye to be frustrating, and at times rude. And at the trial and on my wedding day there was no sense of fun or excitement. You want to be surrounded by positive, fun energy on your wedding day, and unfortunately that wasn't my experience in this case. The work was good, the experience wasn't. Which is a real let down considering how much you're paying for their services. I did let Faye know I was frustrated, and while she apologized that I felt that way, she did not express any interest in understanding what my concerns were. Which I think says a lot. The reality is, she has a lot of great reviews, and wins awards, so I know she'll continue to gain clients. I just wish I'd had the same great customer experience so many other reviewers seemed to have. I would not work with Faye Smith again. read more

Had a great experience with Faye. I purchased the yelp deal prior to making my appointment and the whole process was painless. She was friendly, easy to talk to and done in under an hour. I love the fact that she asked about preferences and whether there was anything I'd like adjusted at the end. She even packed some blotting paper and extra lipstick! The results pretty much guaranteed the best passport photo in my life. Most people don't really think about going to a professional unless it's for a wedding or headshots but I'd recommend Faye for those special milestones in your life too. This studio saved my life!! I needed to book a hair and makeup appointment for my grad photo shoot session the day before. I was beginning to panic since it seemed like all the hair salons in Vancouver had horrible ratings, and I couldn't book a makeover appointment with sephora. I saw Faye's ad on yelp and decided to give it a shot. She replied almost immediately and went out of her way to get me in early on a holiday (thanksgiving). The stylist assigned to me was very friendly and professional. She was very considerate and respective to my opinions and personal habits as well. The other stylists all seemed to be friendly and upbeat as well. The studio itself was beautiful and clean. My down-do and makeup session took about an hour total and costed $200 approx after tax and tips. I frequently hire Faye on for hair and makeup gigs at my beauty boutique as she is certainly one of our top artists... We have been working with her since we opened up The Studio in 2010. I love Faye ever so much that I even hired her on for my wedding in Playa del Carmen, Mexico... I even made her one of my bridesmaids! So glad she said yes! She was patient with me when I changed my mind a couple times about the hairstyle I wanted, in turn needing 3 separate hair trials! I hired Faye Smith Makeup & Hair to do my hair and makeup and my maid of honour's for my wedding in August 2014 based on online reviews and research. Faye was very communicative from the get-go. After my initial consult with Faye (makeup) and Leah (hair), I decided to go in an entirely different direction makeup-wise. (Having never had my makeup done professionally, I didn't know what would work with my colouring, etc. other than boring old everyday "natural" colours. So I recommend paying extra for a trial before the day of if you don't regularly have your hair and makeup done professionally.) After my trial, I communicated my new ideas remotely to Faye, who was ever patient, encouraging and obliging. On the day of, Faye and Leah came to my suite at The Loden on time and did an amazing job addressing my concerns and reflecting my wants (e.g., thickening my brows, doing some contouring). Between Faye's makeup artistry and Leah's hairstyling skills (and intense workouts with my trainer), I probably have never felt more beautiful. And both these ladies were so much fun and tuned in. They made getting ready relaxed and fun with their sweet and calm demeanors, something you definitely want on your wedding day.
