Came back to FayRays after a couple years trying to capture the nostalgia of years past. Needless to say how disappointed it was. Definitely not the same place in its hey day. The wine list is pretty weak not a lot of selections available. Champagne is on the menu, but no longer available. Ordered the Crispy Goat Cheese salad. See pic. Absolutely inedible. The goat cheese is not breaded and had black flakes, not pepper, on it in various places. Looked like grill residue. The crispy greens advertised in the menu was chopped iceberg lettuce. The roasted red pepper soup was lukewarm and had a smoky flavor, but it was more like liquid smoke and not from roasted peppers. Not the same as it used to be. We ordered the filet, med rare, with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The steak was seasoned ok but the meat was a bit mealy like sous vide and was overcooked. The potatoes were runny and tasted like instant, the asparagus was soggy. Tried to send the salad back, but they stayed that's how it comes and was still charged for it. Again, see pics. Supremely disappointing. The description says "fine dining". I was completely underwhelmed with the loud music blaring combined with the tv on in the bar, sound overload. The waitress was attentive but confused when I asked for a split bill, bless her heart. The food was ok. I really had intended to get a steak but the $55 price tag was a little much, especially considering I've eaten at some really fabulous steak houses. I guess white table cloths in downtown El Dorado can justify subpar ambiance and mediocre service and food. read more

This place was a disappointment. This picture is for a $50 ribeye I sent back because it was not medium rare. And this was the replacement. I can't speak to other items on the menu but if you are going put steak on the menu and charge $50 for it, I should be able to get it cooked medium rare. As you can see the steak is extremely thin and poor quality, No blood as you can see. The other issue was they brought me another steak but I had my same side of asparagus so once I got the steak my side was cold. Definitely get something else when visit. Not worth the money for a steak. Oh and the steak just tasted like Worcestershire if you like that. When I talked to the waitstaff to offer in the future to take my side to be warmed... he basically told me he was busy and needed to go pick up food. So no interest in improvement. read more

Everything we had was excellent. The meatloaf has a fun garlic ketchup that enhances the favor Shaved brussel sprouts were great. The filet was done just right. Always a great place to eat with amazing food. The atmosphere is perfect for business dinners or a date.

Their Cajun pasta was really something. There's a definite kick from the spices but the creaminess and richness have you coming back for more and more. The bread sips up the sauce into a really nice bite. The shrimp are huge and really add to the taste. The decor is a little darker and makes a for a great hang out spot. Would recommend! read more

Recommended by our hotel clerk during a recent business trip with colleagues. Reservations were required due to Covid issues. No problems getting in with reservations. Strange thing here - almost every restaurant required wearing a mask on entering. Here, they insisted we continue to wear the mask until the food/drinks arrived at the table. Strange... The food was very good. The three of us had soup as a first course, and all commented on how good it was. I ordered the blackened catfish, which was served over cheese grits and covered with a generous scoop of etoufee, which was mildly spicy and very tasty. One in the group ordered the daily special and the other ordered from the menu. All meals were very well prepared and presented nicely. The only issue with the whole experience was the price. Three of us had soup, dinner, and one bottle of wine to share, and the final bill was $170 with the tip. We weren't really expecting this in the small town of El Dorado. Traveling on an expense account, it takes a little explaining to the boss. lol. read more

Stand in front of the restaurant. Look to your right. Look to your left. Yes, this is the only decent place to have dinner in this town. "Ambiance," if you want to call it that, is OK. Weird paintings and a few pieces of sports memorabilia don't really count as ambiance, but it's fine. Menu was varied enough. A little "Italian," a little Cajun, a little basic American. Wine list is fine for a small town. Enough variety, and it's not overpriced. I had the chicken parmigiana, which was definitely not the best I've ever had, but I still enjoyed it. Brussel sprouts were good, if you like them browned and salty (which I do). My fellow dinner has the Delta chicken, which he liked a lot. Service was passable. Food came out fairly quickly, and we got the check shortly after we finished. The waiter was attentive enough (checked back a few times) that we weren't waiting for anything and had what we needed. People who say it's overpriced must not be used to eating at anything better than a dinner. Prices are very fair. If I ever get to El Dorado again, this is where I'll come for lunch or dinner. I wouldn't drive two hours for the experience, but again, it's FINE! read more

Literally don't go here. If I could give zero stars I would. My asparagus came out dangling off the plate and the waiter put it on the table, asparagus dangling and all. The "salad" looked like soggy tomatoes floating in goop (see below). All the dishes came in a brown slop (also pictured). Our crab cakes were BURNT TO A CRISP. When we complained to the waiter, we still left with a $200+ bill. I feel literally nauseous. You can't make this up. read more

Finally... Actually good food in el dorado !!! So when you walk In this place, it has a small sign too close to the door saying please wait to be seated. No hostess stand or anything. Service was lacking because we awkwardly stood there for a while. When someone noticed us we got sat pretty quickly. Waited a while for our water. Good thing it's a smaller menu so we already knew what we wanted by the time she reached us. We ordered crab cakes & I got a margarita. When the crab cakes came out they had the sauce on top. With 3 boiled shrimp with a sauce on them too. Preferably I would've rather had the sauce on the side. I got the fay Ray snapper with mashed potato & squash risotto. The snapper came with grilled shrimp and HUGE chunks of crab on top. The sides were hefty portions which was great. Risotto was my favorite! Honestly after paying 130$ for 2 entrees and an appetizer I wasn't too excited. I would absolutely not consider this a fine dining restaurant from what I'm use to. So it's not worth the money. Since I haven't had many good experiences food wise in el dorado I enjoyed it. read more

The decor is very nice with artwork on all the walls. I especially liked the tin ceiling. I ate the fried catfish which was seasoned delightfully. The deviled eggs as a side dish was excellent. My wife ordered the Spaghetti with homemade meatballs and sauce. She didn't like the sauce (probably had red wine in it) but, when the owner came by he asked how we like things and immediately offered her something else. He recommended his favorite, the meatloaf sandwich. She asked for it open faced and the meatloaf was about two inches thick! She said it was delicious and reminded her of her mother's. For desert we got the Death by Chocolate Cake with ice cream, it was very good. read more

It's a very small place so you'll have to keep an eye out for it. You can easily mistake it for a boutique of some sort. We arrived at 8pm and had to wait about 30 minutes for a table. They had several large parties at the time. You may want to call ahead and double check on the wait. Just a few days prior we drove by at a similar time and it was completely empty. We sat out in the front patio and ordered some house wine while waiting. The merlot was great... stay away from their chardonnay. Prices were reasonable between $15-$30. They have a decent selection of wine. I ordered the Cajun tillapia special which was amazing. It was disappointing that my roasted potatoes and vegetables were completely cold (the reason they didnt get 5 stars). They also have a roasted red pepper soup that was delicious... never had something like it! I was there with my husband and his colleague and they also enjoyed the food and service. They were also very accommodating and made sure my 2 month old daughter & I were comfortable. The service was wonderful and waitresses were very friendly. The owner is usually sitting at the bar making sure everything is running smoothly and walks around to make sure everyone is doing great. We had a great evening! read more

Fayrays was quiet early on a Tuesday night in early January. I had a wonderful meal of roasted red pepper soup and the special - steak with a Cajun sauce and crawfish. I picked the garlic mash and asparagus for my sides. Don't skip dessert, they all sounded wonderful, I went with chocolate cake that had a chocolate sauce or mousse with it and vanilla ice cream.
