At the end of our project we had a few concerns and they immediately addressed them and took care of them. We truly feel we got our money worth. FINISHED BASEMENT COMPANY (FBC) : A MAJOR DISSAPOINTMENT!!!! The Finished Basement Company (FBC) was highly recommended to us by friends and we also read the 'mostly' positive reviews online. Unfortunately hiring them became a HUGE mistake! We have hired and been extremely dissatisfied by using other contractors, so we thought that we should spend the extra money and hire a quality company to finish our basement. Hiring FBC was a Major, MAJOR Disappointment. I could write a novel on all the issues that we had to deal with, but I will concentrate on the important ones. My objective here is to warn potential customers of this company. First of all, FBC will state that they have contractors that ONLY work for them, but that is not true. They sub-contract most if not all of their work out and it is assumed that the lowest bid gets hired to finish that certain part of your basement or project. Quality of work is not taken into consideration and I have the pictures (attached to review) to prove that process. Communication between FBC Designer and Project Manager is NOT a strong attribute for this company. Communication between Project Manager and Contractors is even WORSE. We had multiple issues with Drywall, patch work, trim work, painters, window trim work, design issues and pretty much anything else FBC was associated with, ATTENTION TO DETAIL which should be the most important thing in building IS NOT ONE OF THEIR BEST ATTRIBUTES!!!!! Collecting your payment checks on time however is. I have attached pictures of what FBC would consider a finished basement. We had to call in an Upper Management person from out of state in order to receive any action on fixing and finishing our basement on what we agreed upon when we signed the contract. Even after upper management was called in we had major issues with repairs being completed mostly because our Project Manager would listen and say yes to our concerns but then NOT address or fix them to what we agreed upon, in some instances this occurred more than three times for one issue. Our finish date was supposed to be April 6th and our basement was not completed until the end of July, meaning the last week of July. The amount of money that we paid to the FBC does not reflect in monetary value an end product that we feel is at the same level. We are and still are extremely disappointed that we used FBC and they tried to send us a check for our troubles which was also an insult compared to what we paid them to have our basement finished. The only things that FBC has that was great is Jessica the designer, she was outstanding to work with and made a great design for us. Also the Lelch Video and Audio team (a separate company) was outstanding as well. FBC however is a joke and I highly recommend that YOU DO NOT WANT TO USE THIS COMPANY!!! read more

Save yourself headaches, a poor construction process and a multitude of other issues!! Do NOT use FBC for any of your remodeling needs!!! Similar to other comments, after the design phase was done, the issue list was ENDLESS. Our Project Manager always SAID she would follow up and get our questions answered, but that never happened. The trades were never on the same page and our design had to be changed multiple times. The communication and coordination from our PM was subpar at best. I was extremely disappointed in this part the most, especially for what you're paying to get the job completed. We (the homeowners) caught more issues and installation errors than our project manager did. When we spoke to the different trades teams, they even mentioned the communications they've had with FBC was poor. The fact that the trades teams said this should say something about the company. When we escalated these issues to upper management, nothing was done. Why would you ask for feedback and not follow through on it? FBC advertises, "Making construction painless, high-quality craftsmanship, quick and efficient, remodeling with transparency." I did not experience anything they advertise (and they definitely are not transparent on the price tag they hit you with). Go with somebody else! read more

Tl: dr: Just don't. I've waited a while to write this to make sure that my frustration and disappointment was fair and about the work done: things in their control. Remodeling is a challenging thing, even with the best professionals. But this was not the best experience. Design was great, they had wonderful ideas. But as the date approached, it all went to hell. Several permitting and code issues came up. We had asked about the narrow stairs many times, and only after work was underway did it come out that because of that, the bedroom downstairs would be non-conforming, lowering the value of the addition. Several of their crews were delayed, and becomes clear we'd miss deadline. The ceiling height gets lowered on us without notice.The stain work on the bookcase and rails is hideously sloppy. Their fix? Enamel white on stain grade wood. Flooring comes in late. Cabinets are wrong, and we don't actually finish until about a month after the guaranteed finish. In those extra weeks, I have to scout through to find all the change and original items missed, and pester them repeatedly to do the work as agreed. They don't pull the shipping bolts from the washer, despite numerous warnings and stickers. The floor isn't leveled, and the carpet has to get pulled up as soon as it was put down. It's a hugely obvious pit in one part of the floor, but nobody seemed to notice, and their notes to me were about it being a perfect job. They promise that they'll settle up with us after the final payments are made, and rebate us a few thousand for our trouble. Does that happen? No. What we do find out after project close is that our drain tile system was installed with no sump pump. Just the dumbest stuff possible. We paid a not insignificant premium over other bids in order to have the assurance that we would not have to manage the project, that we could focus on everything else we had going on. And it was just sloppy and disorganized. Again, and again, and again. They were always SUPER NICE! And SO SORRY they didn't meet our expectations. But nothing ever changed. Do yourself a favor. Look elsewhere. read more

The Finished Basement Company completed our basement over two months ago. But given that it ended as such a bad experience, I wanted to give myself time to cool down before writing my review. While the design process was fun and there were some wonderful, creative tradespeople, the overall experience left a very bad taste. On the surface, the basement might look good, but the process and ultimate quality of some of the work leaves much to be desired. According to their website and promotional materials, you'll experience "no headaches construction" and "quick and efficient completion" with "highly organized" project managers and "frequent communication." NONE of these claims were even close true in our case. Now we've received recent mailings that they're opening a new division, RE for remodeling other parts of the house. They have clearly bitten off more than they can chew. "Quick and efficient completion". The project manager originally said that our basement would be complete by January 31st (we needed to extend the original finish date from December, which was fair, because we decided to expand the project--we started in early October). The project manager claims the end date was March 17th because of the final inspection (thereby avoiding paying us a greater late fee). In order to pass as soon as possible they rushed and faked their way through it. For example, they hung incorrect doors to pass inspection. The doors, but not the frames, were replaced later which has led to the doors sticking and not opening and closing smoothly. This problem has gotten worse since the completion of the project. There were several other outstanding items remaining (including staining and hanging the doors, millwork repair, and top coating which completed mid-April). I would argue that when your house stinks from staining, the project is not complete. There was also a hole in our foundation where the fireplace people wrongly drilled a large hole that was not completely repaired until JUNE 11. It was probably only finally completed because FBC came back to us after the final payment seeking more money and we would not pay until it was done. These people are not "highly organized" or good at communication, and the best example of this was a second "final" invoice we received mid -May for the money they forgot to bill us in our "first" final installment (an "administrative" error from "corporate" totaling over $20K). We thought that they had given us a discount for their incredible lateness and our incredible patience for the numerous errors that occurred during the process. While the discount that we thought we had was larger than the late days (and they only sent back auto-replies to my emails to them about this matter), they did not deduct a late fee from the final price until we threatened them with not paying any of the money for their billing error. They even attempted to get us to sign a release stating that we would not make negative comments about them and releasing them from all liability on the basement to get the late fees owed to us by the original contract. We did not sign the document, and they cashed the check, presumably ending this brutal relationship. The consistent errors and mistakes in the project, along with the unknown and constantly changing schedule, the total confusion in billing at all times (they were sure to calculate additional charges for us, but did not take into account items we removed from the project, such as two reclaimed wood beams, custom corbels, rope lighting, etc.) the "new" final bill, and their ridiculous attempt at getting out of their liability, makes our story a cautionary tale. I (and others) have reviewed the FBC on other online sites--and ours is not an isolated example. Do your due diligence on these folks. read more

OUTSTANDING WORK! This is a follow up and amendment to my previous post and previous review with 'The Finished Basement Company.' We had the issues below that were a concern for us and the Finished Basement Company listened to our concerns and put a plan into action to fix and rectify everything. I would like to personally and graciously thank, Nick, Lyndsay, and the owner of FBC that worked with us to deliver an end product that looks absolutely fabulous!! The Workmanship, attention to detail, and quality of work is superior, flawless, and immaculate. It was an absolute pleasure to work with Nick, Lead Project Manager at FBC. Nick's professionalism, customer service skills, communication, and craftsmanship level of skill is impeccable. We would like to thank everyone that was involved with finishing our basement, FBC and the workers as well.
