The fish section is terrible! The fish tanks are not being properly maintained, and there are dead fish that have been sitting there for too long. The employees do not know how to handle the fish properly. The entire fish section has gone downhill since the remodel. I am very dissatisfied and will never buy fish from there again! Came here to pick up my sisters-in-law cat food. The staff was a bit busy with other customers. So we were able to find the cat food, once we wander for a couple of minutes. But once we got in line to checkout, it took longer to find the food. The cashier was helping out a customer and answering a lot of questions. I wasn't sure why another cashier didn't open up to help out. But nevertheless, we got the cat food and saved the day! This location recently updated their exterior, added some square footage and reorganized their products. While I like their new exterior, I can't say that I can see the impact on what they are able to stock. For me, it just means looking for the items I need in a new place. FSC carries birds, rodents, and other small creatures (some of them food, including bugs). Periodically, this chain hosts "pet adoption" visits from local organizations for larger animals and other fun. Properly supervised animals are welcomed to visit with their owners. The chain carries a wider variety of dog food than otherwise available locally, even at TSC. Sales and discounts are limited, but they do offer a "Feeder Repeater" card when you regularly buy the same bulk food item, the 13th is free. (Keep in mind that it has to be the same flavor, not just the same brand. If you purchase different sizes, they pro-rate the discount.) The leashes, clothes, and toys for dogs that they stock (excepting well-branded items like Kongs) are on the cheaper, Wal-Mart-y, less rugged side, all for a pretty good markup...but really, I guess that's to be expected. Where this local-ish chain really falls on its face is that their staff don't know much, if anything, about their products (other than what aisle they can be found in) or...um...actually taking care of real, living animals. I mean, sure, they're all "clean cut teenagers" (which translates, EOO-wise [and no, I don't want to be involved in the lawsuit], to nondescript white kids with goofy hair) who are polite and solicitous to customers, but not really able to offer anything value-added beyond carrying heavy stuff to the car for you. Staff are pretty much useless...and they'd really sell a hell of a lot more if they weren't so clueless and bum-freaking-fuzzled by being asked questions by customers. read more

BUYER BEWARE! Staff are rude and indifferent to the suffering of animals in their care. I bought two adult female rats from them last Sunday and have already incurred large vet bills to treat conditions they have had since well before I got them. One's teeth were so badly over grown that they had to be surgically trimmed because they were growing back up into the roof of her mouth, the other has NECROSIS AND EXPOSED VERTEBRAE on the tip of her tail and can't even have surgery until we get the infection under control. The vet said it had to be there for some time for all the flesh to have rotted off the tip of her tail and for the bones to be exposed. When we talked to the store about it they said they knew that they had these issues but they figured they would just be bought as feeders anyway so it didn't matter. Then they told me that my two had 'killed some of their rats' which is unlikely because 1. Their rats are all male so they would never have been in the same cage 2. One of mine couldn't even use her teeth to chew much less even defend herself and the other one is in so much pain she cowered in the corner of the cage. Nice try but you're not the victim here no matter how much you try to spin it. I was under the impression they didn't sell rats as feeders and these were not labeled as such. There was nothing to indicate these weren't healthy animals, which one expects when buying from a reputable chain. Regardless, it is their responsibility to ensure their animals, feeders or not, are in good health and not suffering. I would think people who buy live animals to feed to their pets would want to ensure the safety and quality of that food source so saying 'it's just a feeder' still doesn't relieve them of responsibility. I have called the corporate office several times and was fed pretty much the same line by them. They did not care that these animals needed veterinary care and they had no intentions of seeing to it that any animals received proper care in the future. Also, they have the contract with the Louisville Zoo and I can't imagine that they would want to buy from a supplier who would have such a lack of concern for animals that are in their care. I only gave them a one star rating because there is not an option to give them no stars at all. If you love animals avoid the store at all costs. read more

I am very disappointed.i bought fish there for my established aquarium. I bought 8 fish. 1 died and I took it back for refund. Refund was denied due to the water test. I listened to the associate that told me what to do to fix it. Bought more product and was told to bring water sample back in a week. After using the products as told and associate recommended in less than a week I lost EVERY FISH in the tank! They refused to compensate me at all. 1 fish dead to all of my fish dead. Very unsatisfied! apparently the associate wasnt as knowledgable as she thought. and I have a fish less fishtank. read more

We always take our dog there for her baths. Last time we were there my son and I stood by the register waiting to pay for the bath a girl passed by went to a register I followed. She pulled her drawer out and looked at me and walked by with the drawer. Okay . Several other associates were talking. I finally said is anyone open? The 2 that were talking called me over walked to the register and looked irritated I bothered her!!!! I will be going to the dog bath elsewhere. read more

Good selection of pet products. Staff very helpful. Prices are reasonable. They issue coupons frequently and advertising says they'll accept competitors coupons, but I haven't tried it.
