Selecting a funeral home is something we never like to think about until the time is facing us…read more Should that happen and you are put in the path of selecting a funeral home for your loved one, I'd recommend Conkle on 16th Street. They also offer Pre-Planning packages to avoid putting your loved ones through this experience. They are compassionate, kind, respectful of your loved ones, and they gently walk you through the selection process. They realize you're numb from grief and no one is ever ready for this process in our lives. Conkle's interior remains as it has been for years but is clean, well maintained and cared for even though the drapes are certainly out of style. I know! Who's looking at the drapes at a time like this? The chapels are large and can be increased or decreased as necessary. They try to accommodate every person's budget and are helpful even after the service when you need death certificates or have questions. One additional thought is many restaurants are located within walking distance of Conkles in Speedway for those who spend hours supporting the family. This was brought to my attention and much appreciated for those assisting the family and friends.

Conkle has been gracious, patient, informative and professional without pushing additional services or options. They allowed us space and time while guiding us through the necessary steps. Their staff was prompt and respectful when they came for Dad's body and they worked swiftly without rushing to provide that service. Les helped us through each step of planning the services and has continued to assist us with things like applying for a DD-214 to verify military service and securing additional death certificates. We have felt listened to, respected and valued. Recommendations are suggestions, highly personal, and I highly recommend Conkle.

My father chose this cemetery for his final resting place. My initial thoughts upon my first visit…read moreto Oaklawn were that much of it looked unkempt, but I have given them leeway on that for now considering it was Winter. Hopefully, the grounds will appear better once the weather improves. I do have to say that while some areas looked a mess, the Orthodox section was well-maintained for the most part. It is a beautiful spot complete with painted icons near the woods and a creek. I can see why my dad wanted to be placed here. The staff seemed to be kind and professional during the selection of the plot. I was disappointed that the downpours of rain on the morning of my father's funeral kept us from gathering at the burial site, but we were given use of the chapel indoors for the final rites said over him. The men working the grounds that day were polite and let us keep watch as they placed my father into his vault and then into the ground. It was quite muddy so I am sure it was not an easy task. Oddly, as we entered the cemetery in our funeral procession, there was a vault right in the middle of one of the lanes headed toward the chapel. It was a strange sight none of us had witnessed before. Again, slack is being given on that considering the elements that day as well as being told by a friend that once worked at a cemetery that it happens once in a while. I am a bit nervous because of some of my observations combined with the other reviews and photos here. I will be making more treks to the cemetery for sure so I will be back to update my review as necessary.

Horrible post burial services by the location on East Washington Street !!…read moreOnce my girlfriends mother (Katheryn rest her soul) was laid to rest, April 2020 in the mausoleum, it was discovered that her vase and memorial brass name ring was crushed by the forklift used to lift her casket into place. This was reported to the onsite staff early May, 2020 and it is now Dec. and it's still not corrected. Therefore the family has not been able to leave flowers in remembrance of their mother for Memorial Day, her birthday, Mothers Day, the parents anniversary or any other holiday in 2020. It also took more than 6 months for Katheryn's headstone to be engraved with her date of passing, which took 5 discussions with onsite staff of this location. Such an injustice and mistreatment to the deceased family. In particular Michael Bridgewater who spoke rudely to one of the daughters in a phone call regarding said topics, after escalating the issue to his superior. We will NEVER consider using this firm for funeral or burial services in the future.

The visitation in the Broad Ripple facility was peaceful and calm, in a clean and pleasant space; she and her staff made things run as smoothly as we could have ever hoped for. She worked with staffers and clergy from a nearby church for easy transitions into and out of the funeral service, and with the cemetery managers at the burial site. Our choices were outlined clearly, with no hidden costs. We appreciate the respectful professionalism from Ms. Jones and the team at the Broad Ripple location.
