Petit Bistro. 6th floor. Vacherin Mont D'Or 16.90 inc glass of Côtes du Rhône

I'm not a department store kind of person usually, but Ka De We has a reputation as a foodie mecca, so it was high on my list of places to visit in Berlin. We quickly made a B-line for the 6th floor and spent a good while exploring. You could perch on a stool and eat at the counter of a number of delis and speciality food stands though we opted for dining in the central atrium at proper tables. I'm a table and chairs kinda gal! Not every stand had something to suit vegetarians but it wasn't too much of a challenge finding something great to eat. The standard of cuisine on offer on the 6th floor was exceptional and not unreasonably priced though it was entirely possible to spend 98 euros on a single gourmet blini! We weren't super-hungry on the first visit so opted for a savoury filled buckwheat crepe. It was all kinds of delicious and yet very reasonably priced from 7.50 euros a pop. I had some kind of champagne cider which hailed from Breton and could easily have knocked back a few more of the modestly sized wineglasses full. The next day's meal at Petit Bistro was considerably more hearty/expensive/primped, and equally wonderful. Floor 6 is a veritable feast for the eyes and I could have easily spent a fortune were it not for the fact I was travelling back to Glasgow with an already full carry-on. Probably just as well for my wallet's sake! The Winter Garden buffet on top of the store was floor 7 so we popped up in the lift for a wee nosey. Looks very pleasant if slightly more canteen-like but I'd give it a try if we ever return. Tip 1: The food outlets seem to have menus in English. Ask if you need one and haven't already been offered. Tip 2: If you haven't try currywurst yet, then I'm told the one served at Ka De We is among the best and at around 3.50 euro pretty good value too. Its served next to a bar so you can wash it down with a beer. Floor 6 had all I could ever want out of a department store (food!) and I heartily recommend a visit.

We had the pork shank and the game goulash. The goulash was fantastic. Yes cabbage was perfect. The potatoes wrestle pork shank were probably cooked in bacon fat and were sublime. My only nit to pick is the dumplings with the goulash were flavorless gooey dough balls. Drinks: Excellent draft beer. Try the Duckstein red! It's fantastic. Also the "Potato Snap" (like a home brewed vodka) is a fun and interesting shot before dinner! Service: Rather slow but the poor wait staff are completely overworked. Ambiance: Quaint, almost like a dining room in an old home. Value: For the quality, value is solid. Dinner and beer for 2 with 5% tip for just under 100 Euros.

Service: young girl was our waitress and was very busy but very friendly. She was not able to checkup on us after we ordered, so order everything you need. Drinks: they had 3 beer on draught, got the red blonde and it was delicious made me think of an Irish Red. Food: we ordered potato soup and it was delicious! Creamy yet chunky. The bread with the butter sour cream?? Spread paired perfectly with the soup. As our main I got the pork knuckle and my husband got the game goulash. The pork nuckle was very tender fall off the bone, I tried to eat the skin but it was too salty but the pork was super delicious. The potatoes were incredible! With chunks of bacon and the soft interior with the slight crispy exterior was just perfect side. The German coleslaw was crunchy with hint of sour and sweet. It cut through the fat of the pork and was a crunchy brightness to the entire dish. Restaurant: romantic and cozy and clean Bathroom: clean

(I once saw a person pick up their food and promptly enter the apartment building right next door, and envy him for having this place as a neighbor.) I literally stumbled upon Lon Men's for the first time when I was staying at a hotel a few blocks away on Uhlandstraße and made the quick decision to grab an early lunch there. (Pro tip when life returns to normal: this place gets crowded for lunch or dinner, so swing by during the off-peak hours if you're eating in.) Frigid Berlin winter or not, anything Lon Men's serves up will warm your heart right up. The first time I ate in, I was left in such a cozy food coma that I accidentally left my bag behind... only for the server to quickly rush out to return it to me just mere seconds after I walked out the door. How's that for friendly and attentive service, like previous Yelp reviews have mentioned? And yes, as a SF native living in Berlin, sometimes I did crave comfort food other than döner... the sautéd duck with noodles and vegetable hit the spot for those moments of homesickness.

The proprietor is a boss-looking Taiwanese guy who speaks Chinese, English, German and presumably more. Food was served hot and fast -- we got dim sum, hot oil wontons, crispy duck noodle soup and some tea. Dim sum and wontons were honestly nothing special (the shrimp dumplings had chicken filling combined with the shrimp, which was a big miss in my opinion) but the crispy duck was quite tasty and definitely the highlight of the meal. It's clear that they've had to make modifications to accommodate the mostly German clientele that they serve. Hence, not the most authentic of places but pretty good food nonetheless. If I wanted to try Asian food in Berlin again, I'd probably go to Goji or maybe one of the handpulled noodle restaurants.

So across the street so close that we could see it from our hotel window, I spotted Blend and looked it up. Their website describes this place as a snapshot of foods from all around the world. Well that intrigues us because we're adventurous eaters! I loved the architecture and decor of the place. The high ceilings gave you the feeling of space and the open-floor concept. Huge fan. The huge zebra centerpiece (if you look at it the correct way) was also such a cool touch since it's the restaurant's logo. Our server was awesome. She was sweet, funny, spoke great English and made sure that we had everything that we needed. The food was a bit of a letdown, but I have to be transparent. I loved my dishes more that Tiffany liked hers, but things just looked better than they tasted in most instances, but nothing was bad. Let me preface this review with that. The bread is served with 2 kinds of hummus compared to butter which instantly makes it healthier. Lol. However, the bread itself was so heavy and dense. Damn-near got full off the bread before any appetizers showed up. My celery pastrami was delicious and very unique! And for my main course I went with their signature dish a filet mignon with miso jus, roasted onions, tomatoes and served with fries. I really liked this and would certainly come back for it. All in all, this place was cool! Would I spin the block for it? Unlikely, but I do recommend you giving them a chance if you're in the area and don't feel like walking too far from the InterContinental Berlin...
