This review is just for the gourmet deli foodcourt but I'm sure the rest of the department store's just fine. I came to KaDaWe deliberately to eat. It is quite foodies heaven up there on the 6th floor - cheeses, meats, seafood, chocolates, bread, pastries, salads, cured meats, brined seafood, caviar, champagne, and the list goes on. It's total paradox of choice here. Deciding what to eat is tough but you just got to pick one and go. I ended up having a trio of salads - seafood, white asparagus and an arugula-cous cous. I have never before gone out of my way to have a meal in a department store but am glad a friend recommended the food court on the 7th floor of KaDeWe. It has an array of gourmet options from traditional German fare to Asian dishes and many delightful sides. The seating area features a large glass wall with a view over Berlin. The only downside to the KaDeWe food court is that their pricing is poorly done. Entrees come with fixed sides so you need to decide between an entree or a sampling of items from the rest of the court. Accepts credit cards. read more

Mouth watering. When my mom and I came here, we didn't even want to visit other restaurants in Berlin. We spent almost a full week in Berlin and we went to KaDeWe just about every day. I had the best currywurst in the lower food court area. Any of the other currywurst stands around Berlin couldn't live up to that delicious meal. The upper food court is huge and incredibly busy during meal time. We could barely find a place to sit. I prefer getting food on the lower level just because it's easier to find a place to sit. You can find amazing food and wines here that you can take with you or consume at your hotel. I'm pretty sure every tourist should and will stop in here. Don't worry about being a tourist. I'm not a department store kind of person usually, but Ka De We has a reputation as a foodie mecca, so it was high on my list of places to visit in Berlin. We quickly made a B-line for the 6th floor and spent a good while exploring. You could perch on a stool and eat at the counter of a number of delis and speciality food stands though we opted for dining in the central atrium at proper tables. I'm a table and chairs kinda gal! Not every stand had something to suit vegetarians but it wasn't too much of a challenge finding something great to eat. The standard of cuisine on offer on the 6th floor was exceptional and not unreasonably priced though it was entirely possible to spend 98 euros on a single gourmet blini! We weren't super-hungry on the first visit so opted for a savoury filled buckwheat crepe. It was all kinds of delicious and yet very reasonably priced from 7.50 euros a pop. I had some kind of champagne cider which hailed from Breton and could easily have knocked back a few more of the modestly sized wineglasses full. The next day's meal at Petit Bistro was considerably more hearty/expensive/primped, and equally wonderful. Floor 6 is a veritable feast for the eyes and I could have easily spent a fortune were it not for the fact I was travelling back to Glasgow with an already full carry-on. Probably just as well for my wallet's sake! The Winter Garden buffet on top of the store was floor 7 so we popped up in the lift for a wee nosey. Looks very pleasant if slightly more canteen-like but I'd give it a try if we ever return. Tip 1: The food outlets seem to have menus in English. Ask if you need one and haven't already been offered. Tip 2: If you haven't try currywurst yet, then I'm told the one served at Ka De We is among the best and at around 3.50 euro pretty good value too. Its served next to a bar so you can wash it down with a beer. Floor 6 had all I could ever want out of a department store (food!) and I heartily recommend a visit. read more

It is always crowded with tourists but this never deters me from my mission: Baking soda, Pop Tarts and Toll House Chocolate Chips. (Funny the things you crave when abroad). I would recommend skipping the shopping and go straight for the elevators and go to the food court at the top. VERY fresh food where you can choose from hot and cold salads, scrumpcious soups, hot entrees, a fruit bar, a juice bar, a dessert bar - pretty much anything you can think of. The prices are comparable to an higher end grocery store e.g. Central Market but the quality is A+. Go early - it's always crowded!!! The wintergarten in particular is quite a sight. One of the most incredible and elegant foods court in Germany. The entire floor is devoted to restaurants and places selling every kind of food, bread and pastry. We had trouble finding a place to sit at Zum Fischkutter. Sensational fish and seafood. Great atmosphere and friendly service. Expensive but delicious. I had baked Prawns done Provencal in style. Baked in a casserole with herbs, tomatoes and a beautifully browned bechamel on top. Cooked perfectly, rich and wonderful. My partner had a small whole Turbot. We went here once a month or so to sample the different seasonal foods available at the restaurants upstairs. It's really pricey and really Bourgeois to eat here, so don't tell anyone you like it.
