Dr. Feldman has given me back the summer. With the encouragement of my internist, I first visited him because of a painful shoulder cramp. It had troubled me occasionally for many years, but now it seemed to have settled in to stay, and nothing I tried would alleviate it. I started a nutrition program with Dr. Feldman nearly four months ago. I knew I still needed to lose some post-baby weight, but the bigger problem was hip and lower back pain that had been plaguing me since giving birth three years ago. I showed up with an unexplained sharp pain in my right back when I did certain movements. I also had aches in one elbow and thumb joints. After a session of craniosacral therapy the pains ebbed and connected, helping me see that they were associated with my use, or misuse of my computer and its tracker ball. I made some changes to my workspace, but didn't know how to change what I DID so that I wouldn't be hurting myself. Our next session was a Feldenkreis session focused on the action of reaching with the arms. At the start of the session I had sharp pains in my right elbow whenever I tried to rotate my arm, and I felt unmoving at my shoulder. After moving through the exercises with Dr Feldman, my upper body felt completely different. I felt aware of movements in my thoracic region that hadn't been available to me before.
