Our dad came to the rehab center on a Tuesday. At that time, he was still walking. We had a meeting with the staff that Friday, and we were told that he was now considered a full assist and needed a Hoyer lift just to stand. We were also told that he could no longer walk and would need to be in a nursing home because of the level of assistance he required. A few days later, our dad's elbow started bothering him. Then his legs and feet became so painful that he could no longer stand or tolerate anyone touching them. Our family repeatedly asked what was wrong and tried to get answers, but we felt like our concerns were mostly being put off. I requested X-rays, but it took several days for them to be done, and nothing showed up. At that point, I started doing my own research because I knew we needed to get our dad out of that facility and into somewhere we felt would provide better care. He was moved to another facility on a Thursday afternoon. By Friday around noon, I received a call saying he was being rushed to the emergency room because they believed he was in sepsis. Our dad spent four days in the ICU, followed by several more days in a regular hospital room. Thankfully, he has now returned to the facility to finish his rehabilitation, and we are hopeful that he will be transitioning into assisted living by next week. As a family, we truly believe that getting our dad out when we did may have saved his life. I honestly do not know if he would be with us today if we had not made that decision. Based on our experience, I would not recommend Riversbend in Manitowoc. I am sharing this because families need to advocate for their loved ones, ask questions, and trust their instincts when something doesn't seem right.

Will come in to give you meds or check your blood (no privacy). They advertise " Our Smart Healing Program puts dietary professionals on your team. Meals at Shady Lane are not only delicious, but set you on a smarter, healthier road to recovery. " Their delicious meals consist of ham sandwiches, mac and cheese and bologna sandwiches for dinner. Cold eggs and cold oatmeal for breakfast and leftovers for lunch ! Last I was taught a patient heals better with rest and good nourishment. They don't seem to believe in that at Shady Lane especially the staff that work on the weekends.

Got noro virus while on the short stay unit along with several other residents. They isloated me during my illness, but universal precautions where lacking and haphazard ( some staff used protective gear, hand washing, etc. and others did not. Proper disinfecting in common areas such as dining rooms and on frequently touched items such as door knobs, handrails, etc seemed quite insufficient if one uses how rapidly and widely it spread to other residents. I later became a rehab unit patient and an influenza outbreak among staff was spreading to patients--as evidenced by adminstering the prescription drug 'Tamiflu' to all patients. Again, it seems proper disinfecting in common areas and frequently touched items seemed insufficient. Additionally, not all sick staff regularly used mask and standard handwashing upon entering and leaving rooms to protect patients. Lastly, I concur with a previous reviewers assessment of their disregard for privacy by mnay staff entering room without knocking or knocking and just walking in rather than waiting for a response--while I could habebeen or was on toilet, changing, etc. also concur about the reviewer's assessment of the food. Little apparent nutritional value in processed and canned foods and meals more often than not were cold and overcooked to the point of being quite hard. Lastly, some staff were great, a few outright rude, and a number that never offered help for their entire shift. Sadly disappointed.
