New Principal for 2023, so I am hopeful for changes. In the past this school did not encourage school spirit which helps create love and pride for your school. It is verry saddening to go to a ring ceremony where, not one student, knew their alma matter. This school did too little in motivating students to want to attend it. Currently, noticing new principle bringing in more school spirit activities. I hope he will allow more fund raising activities, so students can have a better experience this year. Bring back pizza sales, and baked sales and other activities. These students are old enough to sell these items. It's fund raising, give them volunteer hours for this. PTA is practically non-existent, but prior principal didn't involve parents in the school and took way too long to have an in person open house. I am hoping school will add EOC reviews on Fridays, or Saturday tailored to aid all students especially, the Seniors, to pass their EOC in algebra and other subject. Many students felt behind on math due to covid, especially those who started 9th grade algebra online. I felt this school, in the past, did not provide support for those students who need it in their Senior year to graduate. In my experience, a C student who wants to learn and gets the help they need will go further in their academic career than some A students who feels they know it all, and feel burnt out. School exterior looks great and beautiful but interior hallways have a disturbing and depressing green.(Why this color?) I expect broken stall doors to be repaired and have working locks. I also expect an adequate supply of soap in the bathroom. Overall students feel safe in the school and the building is enclosed with a fence. This principal has brought in more police officer which is great, for a school of this magnitude. I hope they have a forum to address and encourage students to report concerning matters. We need officers that can be friendly with students to encourage this communication. As many generation of Vipers will tell you, their is a lot of vaping in the bathrooms, which is horrible for asthmatics and Wi-Fi is spotty. Wi-fi needs to be addressed. Students are using their own data plan and becomes expensive for parents .Counselors in the past have ignored parents and students who have pleaded with them to change their teacher because they don't learn in the manner their they teach. These students should not be ignored. They should not stress to the point of physically getting sick and been discouraged from wanting to graduate. Moreover, they should not fail a class that could of been prevented. This year I heard from a few students, that were stressing over some electives, that Mr. Brown heard them out and helped. School year just started and the new principal has brought positive changes and I hope he continues. I love his mentality of permitting joggers and hoodies as long as its school colors and appropriate. Its like telling a teen come comfortable to school, roll out of bed in your jogger if you have to, but come to school. This may encourages less absenteeism. read more
