It was in the middle of a hellacious rainstorm, so the ferry ride was definitely "lively". 4Pines Brewpub was the closest brewery to the quay, so I made a run for it and was greeted with a nice beer selection (did a flight #natch ), friendly staff, ample seating (w/a view), and respite from the storm. It was a great way to say g'day to beer in Oz! The chef even came out to the table to assist my friend with ordering gluten free options. I haven't had their beer which I know is odd being that it's a brewery but it just wasn't that sort of afternoon when I visited. Instead we ordered wine and food. The food was a step up from pub food for sure! They had various selections of tacos, fish, burgers, chicken schnitzel, salads, pies, etc. I saw quite a few entrees being served and they all looked fresh and good presentation. My friend tried the tacos and I tried the chicken schnitzel. The schnitzel was a decent size portion, the fries were nice and crisp, the salad was gorgeous with big chunks of spinach and not overly done with the dressing. I will definitely stop in again. This brewery…read morewas fully functional about a hundred years ago ..... but then things slowly changed and it just went to ruin by the strains of time. In recent years a brave and determined team have slowly been working on making this once what it was ...... a great Brewery .... using all local produce, labor and talent. I arrived here using Google map references ...... it was mid week .... mid afternoon ..... never really expecting to try any beers at all ....... what happened made my day ....... a generous guy gave me a personal tour ....... it was quick but was fun as we saw old fashioned machinery mixed with modern bits and pieces. Beer tasting would have pushed this very new friendship over the edge ..... instead I opted to buy a mixed dozen of their current brews ....... I couldn't stop smiling ..... Joey D ...... very happy !! Weekends would be highly recommended ...... and a side note ..... extensions to outside areas ...... new eatery and new accommodation are on the drawing board ..... coming soon ...... and very much something to look forward to. One of the best beers I have had in quite sometime. It was considered a Vanilla Milk Porter. Very tasty. Other beers we had were good as well. Service was friendly and entertaining. We ordered the Corn Dogs, Wagyu Beef Burger, and the Beetroot, Carrot, and Orange Salad. The food is mediocre or average at best. The beer? It's hard to say because only three of their taps were available (no hard feelings the day after opening). Have you ever had your canned IPA served with ice in it? I have. Do not recommend. The outdoor seating consists of metal slated chairs. It's starting to get much hotter here so I do not recommend sitting outside unless the fabric of your clothes completely covers your legs or you're going to have a bad time sheerly from the pressure of your own weight against the chair. I believe they'll improve with more time post-renovation. At least the scenery is beautiful.
