He chose the chocolate and hazelnut cone which wasn't to my taste but I'm hit and miss with hazelnut. I picked the biku banoffee for its generous size and promise of fresh banana, dulce de leche and Chantilly cream. I was only let down by my inability to finish it. Absolutely delicious! Our bill came to $52 for the two desserts and an English breakfast tea which I didn't bat an eyelid paying at the counter. We sat down and after 5 minutes the man that took my order came over with $18 change and apologised that our order had been added to the lady before me. I had no idea but was happy they picked up on the mistake and didn't trouble me that I payed by card and simply gave me the difference in cash. It is a small shop which was left feeling even smaller with the crowd that had formed to order. One person serving, scooping and taking payment held the group up further but I was happy to hang back and take in all the flavours ready for my turn. The lady was very calm and seemingly unperturbed by the sudden influx which made me feel better. Uncertain about the portions (and some places charge a lot for a little), I was more than pleased with the enormous single scoop and being prone to indecision was further pleased with the option to split the single serve between two flavours (at no extra cost). Following the expert footsteps of my nieces I chose a classic (chocolate) but added coconut for balance - I essentially ordered a Bounty as was pointed out to me. Other flavours included salted caramel, Turkish delight, pistachio and tiramisu; with many more on offer. The chocolate flavour had a bitter aftertaste so I'm thinking dark not milk? My grandmother ate almost five of them in one sitting! The staff at the Hamilton shop are so nice and happy. Thrilled to hear that an Adamstown location is on the cards. They also have fresh sandwiches and wraps as well as a nice selection of juices. Really nice little cafe. EDIT: the red velvet cupcake is the worst I've ever tried. Dry and flavourless with the sourest of cream cheese icing. It made me sad. It also appears the Hamilton location no longer stock sandwiches and most of the interesting drinks have been replaced by Coke products. The passionfruit cupcakes are still divine and I'm holding out for a Rocky Road Special!

The thing they thought they better serve for people to drink while eating cakes. I half expected a stock standard coffee roast to line the walls. How wrong was I!? My eyes lit up upon noticing the bag of coffee in the window was from Melbourne's Small Batch. A treat was indeed in store and I asked if they still had the beans running in the grinder. Our barista pointed to the almost gone beans in the grinder and said this was the last of it before they switch to some locally roasted blends. Okay. Sign us up. Two flat whites please. To be fair, I should have ordered a long black to get the best of these bean's flavour. But what makes this cup of coffee stand out against the cafes stark white walls, Scandinavian furniture and peach wash accents, is the man behind the machine. As he delivered our coffees he explained that they weren't the taste he'd prefer to serve. The water here, you see, is apparently "too clean" and this alters the flavour profile of the beans. Thankfully, he says, the milk somewhat masks the tartness present in the brew. This initial warning turns into a 20 minute conversation about coffee, his adventures in finding the right water for their coffee and his time living in Brisbane. Turns out that this is a surprisingly great spot for coffee- and you can have your cake and eat it too (but on this occasion I didn't although by the speed with which my partner devoured his salted caramel cupcake I'm guessing the same level of love, passion and care is put into their baking as is their coffee).

Buying things in there is a genuinely uncomfortable experience. The in-store selection is very small, with around four things on offer each day. The cupcakes we chose were overwhelmed by buttercream, no matter what flavour they were meant to be. And they are significantly smaller than they were when Hello Naomi originally opened, though the prices have stayed the same. At Christmas, one iced biscuit was $7 for the smallest, simplest option - very sad when I only had five dollars on me! The honey-jumble biscuits (iced pink and white, similar to gingerbread) were nice, and the salted caramel and brownie sandwich is deliciously chocolatey, though buttercream again takes centerstage. Overall, a sweet-looking place that doesn't quite live up to the polished magic of the shop window and fit-out.
