We stopped in town not knowing it was Sweet Corn Festival and Ragbrai coming through town. Expecting the worst, we managed our expectations on service. However, we were pleasantly surprised how nice and friendly the staff was. It's a standard Irish bar but with the kitchen behind the counter. We both got the fish and chips (I mean, obviously right?) and they turned out amazing. The fish was lightly battered and flaky and the fries were delicious! Hello, I was there today for lunch. Unfortunately i so want to give this place a higher rating. For lunch i ordered the Rachel with a side salad. My salad had to have been premade nd sitting there. The lettuce was not very cold and lettuce quite wilted. The turkey was not a freshly sliced sandwich turkey. I think it came to them processed and ready to heat and serve. Just not great quality. The inside is very unique with different Star Wars statues and displays. I will stop back in someday. I have hopes of this place being much better! Until next all! Go check it out. Wonderful Irish Pub in Elkader Iowa. Definitely doing Covid-19 right. Sparsely spaces tables and staff wearing masks. Totally a family run business. Good fish and chips and slaw and great pints of Harps and Guinness. And enjoyed the son sanitizing and stacking to dry menus. Thanks so much! Great food, friendly service, large selection of beers, and very clean. Has some cool Star Wars stuff to see, which was unexpected. The kids had a nice variety to choose from, on the menu. It was probably the best fish n chips I've had in a long time; light n flaky, not heavily greasy. Husband had the corn beef and cabbage; was very good. Mostly excited about the shamrock in his beer. Had a nice meal and then went to a movie afterwards. Can't wait to come back and try their other options. read more

The pub is a nice addition to Elkader. In the past I have had the walnut burger which was a surprising treat. On my most recent visit, I had the lunch portion of fish and chips. I got three nice sized fish pieces -they were very thin, but the breading was good and crispy. I had a TON of french fries in my basket and barely made a dent in them. I also got a cup of soup which unfortunately wasn't very hot and the flavor was off a little. I've really enjoyed the Reuben sandwich in previous visits. The bar has several nice beers on tap and supports a local brewer as well. A small cooler has a few local beers for sale if you're interested. We went here this past weekend to eat lunch and watch the football game, however, there are no TV's visible from the bar, which was kind of a bummer. 2 TVs are inside the door, but very close together. If you can score the table that is close to them, then you're in luck! read more

I left an earlier review so this is update. The next day after our dinner, my husband called and asked for owner because sometimes owner is unaware. With all the great reviews, we thought maybe it was just a one time thing. My husband mentioned that he was disappointed because the meal was definitely not good or worth the $$. The owner told him to go somewhere else. Ok. We were going to go back to try fries, burgers, or wings but because of owner lack of concern and rudeness, I think we will never go again. read more

Yet another fantastic small business in this scenic town. I love Elkader and places like Fennelly's are much of the reason why. This is a good take on an Irish themed pub and eatery and they offer surprisingly authentic items here like boxty and Irish Stew for a town of this size. I thought my Irish Stew was very satisfying when coupled with a pint of Guinness and very affordably priced They'll even top your Guinness with an authentic shamrock pour just like they do at St. James Gate in Dublin. If I lived here, I would be a regular for sporting events and relaxing with friends. As a visitor, I give a strong recommendation for anyone passing through this beautiful part of the state for a rock solid, quality meal at an affordable price with a personal touch. read more

The French Fries were amazing. The kind made by cutting up a raw potato and frying it, crispy soft and sweet. The corned beef, sauerkraut & Swiss cheese in the Reuben were very good but the actual rye toast it nestled in, could have been a bit more toasty. Asked for a medium rare burger, was given well done. Fries were terrible, soft and saturated with grease.. waitress copped an unnecessary attitude when this was mentioned and only offered to box up my food to take with me (not even a re fire?? Stopped for lunch on way to Yellow River. Husband and I split a Rueben. Flavors were good but disappointed with soft bread (ungrilled) and small chopped pieces of corned beef. One of my pet peeves is also partially fried "fries". Service was great, prompt, food came out very quickly (which might have been the problem with grilling and frying!). read more

WINGS WINGS WINGS!! I am a wing fanatic and they have the best so far. My only complaint would be the size of the wings and could be crispier. The wide variety of flavors is so cool and you can combine flavors. My goto is Extra Hot Buffalo and Chipotle Lime combined, yum yum yum. And they have an Ultra Hot that will truly challenge you! The hottest thing I've tested yet with good flavor. read more

Four of us were looking for a bloody Mary and lunch. We sat in a comfortable area with rustic leather chairs. It took a long time for the waitress to come over. I think she was setting up or food prep. She was a woman of few words. She did not ask us if we wanted menus or anything else. We took menus from a table. Food choices looked great! Bloody Mary was great and only $4. However, the waitress never returned for us to order or check if we wanted another drink- despite the fact we had menus out. There was only one other couple and they were eating. So we left and ate at 1-Rs St. Olaf and ate awesome tenderloins. Oh and the bathroom smelled like cigarette smoke. read more

We were in town for a funeral, after visitation 7 out of towners went here to eat. We ordered a variety of foods, beers, wine. All were very tasty, somewhat smaller than expected serving size, but it was good tasting. Obviously, strangers we did feel the regulars checking us out. But all were friendly enough. Stopped by this really great spot for lunch while antique shopping In Elkader, Iowa. The wait staff were prompt and friendly and the service was great. Most notable was the menu and the authentic Irish fare. My friend was so taken with her choice, Shepard's Pie, that she called Tim, the chef and owner over to our table to compliment him and ask for the spice she was tasting. Now you will have to head over there and try it for yourself to find out what I'm talking about, and while you are at it, make sure to try a Reuben Sandwich, yummy! Had the burger and fries. It was excellent and I recommend adding grilled onions to it. Prices are what you would expect for the amount of food you get. I also highly recommend the Shepard's pie. read more
