Totally gross overflowing drop toilets. Every single toilet is filled to the top. Don't stop!

For a California rest stop this one is nice. Didn't smell bad. Great place to relieve yourself.

John Wilkie Rest Area - Rest area with picnic benches

    John Wilkie Rest Area

On Saturday 03/30/2024, the 15 Freeway northbound heading to Las Vegas was closed for several hours…read moredue to a traffic collision unfortunately. Hence, we had to take a detour and use an alternate route. Highway 40 was one of the routes and my intuition said to take it. It was already late in the evening and it was raining. As much as I would have preferred not to get wet in the rain, I knew we had to stop at least once for a potty break LOL. After an hour plus of driving, we arrived at this rest area. I was surprised it had an official name for it... John Wilkie Rest Area. Anyway, we got lucky as it was sprinkling just a tiny bit at the time. We quickly used the women's restroom and went our merry way. It was clean and well stocked for the most part. There are only 4 stalls. One of them was out of commission so only 3 available for use at the time. From what I saw even in the dark LOL, it's a well kept and maintained rest area with picnic benches covered and uncovered for use... nice!!! Do stop by if you need a rest and/or potty break because it'll be another hour or so before the next rest area. Safe and happy travels!!!

That large Dr. Pepper with free refills you enjoyed in Seligman, AZ has yelled "Margin cal, good…read moresir!" and you've just screamed past the last turnoff before the Colorado River heralds your arrival in California. Squirming in your seat, and hoping the border checkpoint line isn't too long, you suddenly remember the John Wilkie Rest Area, and announce "I'm gonna make it!" to no one in particular. John Wilkie was a CALTRANS superintendent, who advocated for workers with disabilities. Through his vision, people with disabilities were included in work forces, building and supporting infrastructure and roadside rest stops like this one. Mind you, if the whole outfit was a pile of cat litter and a garden spade, that would still be a better option then stopping in Needles, California. Thankfully, this rest stop is well-maintained, clean, and modern. As with most remote places, best to keep your wits about you, particularly under the cover of night. Situational awareness, that sort of thing... But for the most part, this is a lot safer than stopping on the side of the highway, and trying to duck behind a tumble weed or something. So go ahead, get that big chocolatey blizzard at the Ludlow Dairy Queen... You can always stop here; or better yet, they have a really good hospital in Kingman.

I've driven by this gas station a million times on my way to Laughlin & Havasu. My friend & I went…read moreto the lake in Bullhead, AZ the other day & she needed to use the bathroom on our way back to Vegas, so we stopped in here. Half the store is full of merchandise to buy. They have some cute stuff in here. Metal signs, clothes, wristlets, etc. I ended up buying a Wizard of Oz metal sign, it was reasonably priced & I'm a big fan of WOO & have been for many years so I had to get this to add to my collection. I saw a cute Patriots wristlet but the price was crazy $$$ so I didn't buy it. I decided to use the bathroom too while here & OMG the toilet was nasty. Had a dirty ring in the bowl but what was funny is there were toilet brushes down on the floor right next to the toilet. Makes ya wonder why they don't use them & clean the bowl??? I was in & out of that bathroom real quick, they were old & run down...yuck! The guy working the counter was really nice. I had asked if they had a Chevron gift card & he thought I was asking for a credit card & showed me a flyer. There was another guy in one of the aisles stocking stuff & he said "hi" as I walked by. I was looking to buy a soda water. I checked their soda fountain machine as most places have a side carbonated button but their's didn't. It was very small with only a couple Pepsi products on the machine. I had trouble finding a bottle/can of soda water in their cooler & finally located two different brands but they were both plain & I decided to opt out of buying one and drink my water in the car. I'd rather use the bathrooms at the rest stop on this road then this gas station's. Grant it the rest stop has really nice & clean bathrooms....lol
