A fantastic burger. Great buns, fantastic combination of toppings, flavourful patty, and everything came together well. Is it one of the best burgers I've ever had? Not quite, but a great option if you're in the area. However, the onion rings were painfully mediocre. You only get a few of them for the price, and the texture and flavor wasn't anything special. Get the burger, pass on the rings.
WOW! Just wow! I was skeptical when Fergburger was mentioned as one of the world's best burgers, but was pleasantly surprised at how massive and delicious the burger was. We tried the following burgers: - The Fergburger - 5/5. Your standard burger and absolutely delicious! - Sweet Bambi - made with wild fjordland deer and a sweet chutney - 5/5 - Codfather - fish burger 5/5 The difference-maker with Fergburger is the delicious buns, which are made at neighboring Fergbaker. The meat patties are also huge and packed with flavor. There is always a line unless you show up at 8am, when we walked by early in the morning. Lines go quick and we waited ~30-min for burgers around lunchtime. Very limited seating in and outside. Recommend getting your burgers and sitting at the outdoor parks or by the pier. We only had 2-days in Queenstown and happened to eat at all "ferg" establishments (Fergburger, Fergbaker, and Mrs. ferg). They were just that good!
Visiting Ferburger, standing in line, and the anticipation to finally taste this burger was great fun! If I'm being honest though, although the burger was pretty good, it's not something I would stand in line for again. We tried the Fergburger Deluxe and fries. Again, it's just a pretty good burger.
Good burgers (4/5), long lines but they move quick! Food- Ferg burger double (4/5) good quality meat in a sesame bun, your traditional burger. I would recommend a single and not a double as the patty's are meaty. Service: friendly, long lines but it moves quickly! Overall about 20 minutes of waiting in line then about 10-15 minutes after order is placed. Atmosphere: it's a causal spot but FLOODED with customers. You'll be lucky to get a seat. Overall it's hyped up more than what it is but it's worth checking out!
Fergburger is easily the most famous restaurant in Queenstown - if you even mention you're going to Queenstown, people will tell you that you have to try Fergburger. The line for Fergburger was LONG and I mean like a whole block long out the door long and I was told that that's not even bad for them. Fergburger offers a whole list of different burger and sandwich combos along with fries, shakes, etc. For flying all the way across the world from the United States, Fergburger sells quite an American cuisine. After about 20-30 min of waiting, we got up to order and placed our order. They give you a number and then you wait another bit longer for your food to be ready. They'll show your number on a screen when it's your time. The bummer is that it's absolutely way too packed to sit down considering there's only a few tables so you pretty much have to take it to go. Honestly, the burger was solid but in my opinion, each US city has 10+ better burger shops than Fergburger. The burger was good don't get me wrong, but did not live up to the hype. The fries were great however!
OKAY YUM - this place is insane! I was here on a Saturday night and the line was Long but it moved quick - super efficient operation. We got the holier than tho and the codfather both were DELCICIOUS! the burgers were huge and perfectly seasoned, somehow those buns weren't soggy! The waitress was so nice and when we told her we were on our honeymoon she gave us a free wine bottle
Food: 4.9/5 Service: 2.8/5 Value: 4.7/5 The hype of the town and boy does the line make you feel the hype. Even in the rain, we had to wait 10 minutes just to order. Luckily the stores nearby typically have rain covers and the rain was relatively light. However, the wait was absolutely worth it, and I'll remember this as one of the best burgers I've had. Just to get all of my complaints out of the way. It is really difficult to find anywhere to sit and actually enjoy the burger. There are so many tourists and so few spots, just expect to have to enjoy this burger somewhere else. On a sunny day, would strongly recommend just going by the lake, but on a rainy like what we experienced, it was super difficult. Now, onto the food! Ferg Deluxe: Holy crap this burger was so good.... The combination of the well seasoned, tender patty with the bacon, relish were incredible. Honestly, when I first took a bite of this burger, I was just blown away and instantly knew it was different from the other burgers I've had. I can't give enough praise to how well Fergburger executes their staple. Sweet Bambi: Honestly after the Ferg Deluxe, this was quite the letdown. The deer was not as well seasoned but the boysenberry sauce was quite good. It just didn't have the "wow" factor that the Ferburger has. Altogether a decent burger but would probably just recommend getting the restaurant staple.
My husband bookmarked this place, and our hotel concierge also recommended it, so it seemed like a must-try spot. I was warned that the line can be quite long usually 30 to 45 minutes but when I arrived around 2:30 pm on a Friday, there were only about five people ahead of me. I waited roughly five minutes before ordering. I ordered the Double Patty with cheese for $21.50, the Southern Swine for about $18.50, a Hokey Pokey milkshake for $12.50, and onion rings for $9.90. The staff mentioned that my order number would appear on the monitor in about 15 minutes, and that was pretty accurate. We were lucky to get a seat inside as there are only about four tables--but there's additional bench seating outside where most people eat. We sat by the bar stoolsl where one of the cooks was grilling patties and toasting buns, which was fun to watch. Next door, there's also a bar, a bakery, and a gelato shop, which makes the Ferg empire lively. As for the food, the burger was juicy but not particularly flavorful. I did like the avocado, though the burger itself was huge--I couldn't finish it. The onion rings were a bit greasy, and when I opened the box, it was only half full, whereas others seemed to get more generous portions. Not a big deal since I couldn't finish mine anyway, but worth noting. Everything moved pretty efficiently overall. However, there's only one unisex bathroom, and the line can get long. Unfortunately, it also smelled quite bad, definitely an area they should improve.
If you're in Queenstown, Fergburger is a must. It shows up on every "best places to eat" list, and it really does live up to the hype. Even if you see a crowd outside, don't let that discourage you -- the staff are friendly and they turn over orders fast. We visited on a Friday afternoon, and we only waited about 5-10 minutes to order. However, we have heard that waits can be much longer (up to an hour) during weekends or peak dining times. Seating inside is limited (a few barstools and small tables), so many people take their food to-go, but we were able to grab seats at the counter. I ordered the Fergburger with double meat (two patties, cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion, garlic aioli) for $21.50 NZD. My wife ordered the Southern Swine (beef patty, bacon, same toppings plus avocado) for $18.90 NZD, onion rings ($9.90 NZD) and a hokey pokey milkshake (vanilla with honeycomb toffee for $12.20 NZD). The burgers are large, the buns are toasted and hold everything together, and the patties were juicy and flavorful. The onion rings were crispy, and the milkshake was rich and creamy. There's a tv monitor inside showing when orders are ready, and there's also a restroom available. Great flavor, big portions, and fast service. Definitely worth stopping by when you're in Queenstown.
Burger still amazing! Lots of options including fish, chicken, venison & more.."gourmet"style burgers with all the fixings but super casual joint. Busy and lively buzz here all the time so plan on bringing patience with your appetite. . Service is quick& friendly. Love it here... can't leave town without trying! Oh, they just had their 25th anniversary. They have a bakery next door and a bar now too.
We heard this place was once ranked as No. 1 burger place in the world by CNN or something so we decided to give you a try. This place always has a line rain or shine, no matter number one or not, it's definitely one of the most loved restaurants in Queenstown. The line usually moves pretty fast, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. They walked along the line passing around the menus and giving you an estimate of the current wait time for food. Ordering was very easy and efficient. Not sure if it's the expectation or the over-hyped before trying the food. I'd say the patties are pretty juicy, food is good, but I wouldn't say it's the best burger I've ever had. They open pretty late, so it's perfect for late night snacks or craves.
I was recommended this place on my trip to Queenstown so of course I had to go. The line was out the door but the register was right at the entry. I asked what the most popular item was and she recommended the Ferg Deluxe ($19.90 NZD). I also got a side of Fries ($7.90) and Ginger Beer ($6). It was just me so I was easily able to find a seat at the counter. They have a tv behind the register where you can see which order numbers are ready. The food also came out in a reasonable time, maybe a bit less than 10 minutes. I wouldn't say that it's the juiciest burger and it wasn't life changing, but for the price it was pretty good. The burger was huge but I was still able to finish the whole burger surprisingly. They really did not skimp on any of the ingredients and I got a good mix of flavors with each bite. It's a pretty fast paced place and a lot of people take their orders to go. There's only a few tables inside so you'll have to be pretty lucky to get a spot. Like I said, it wasn't the best burger I've had in my life, but it's worth a try and you definitely get your money's worth. It's best to go off peak times because I always see a long line out front. I would still come back though to try some of their more unique burgers.
The burgers here are okay, definitely not worth the 2hour wait in line. They did have a lot of meat in the burger which I liked but other than that it was mid. The service is great though they gave out umbrellas on a rainy day! The environment is also clean and nice! read more
OK. I know this is a tourist trap, but it's a really good one! We had heard so many great things about this burger shop, so we had to try it. The Mr Big stuff burger was fantastic! The meat was out of this world, and the gluten-free bun was absolutely delicious. Even though this place gets really busy, the team knows how to get orders in and out really fast. I loved the fries because they were crispy and crunchy. Overall, if you're visiting Queenstown and need a warm and delicious burger to keep you from being cold during their fall, and winter time, go here! read more

Definitely worth all the hype! It was great food, and didn't have to stand in line at 9pm for a late night dinner. Their place is a bit cramped, I would suggest to take the food to-go to another location. read more
What a solid spot. This place has good burgers, good fries, and awesome shakes. What more could you ask for? This burger can go up against any burger from back in America (where burgers are plentiful), and easily hold its own. The portions are good, and you don't feel ripped off. There's a lot of hype around this place that might make you stray to some of the more unique items on this menu, but I'd suggest sticking with the burger. You cannot go wrong. Friendly staff and a few tables inside, and if you are lucky enough to get a seat, the vibe in there is great! read more
Their burgers are worth the hype. No matter what time of day, it seems to be jam packed full of people. Don't rely on the yelp hours. Check with the business to see what their hours are since they close pretty early probably because of COVID times. Seating can be limited with inside and outside since it's always busy. Meat is juicy and seasoned well. Veggies are fresh and crisp. Fries are seasoned and cooked great. We definitely found ourselves coming back here another time for our trip to Queenstown. read more

It appears to be that when in Queenstown, the place to go for a burger is Fergburger. They have a line of people out the door at all times of the day. We ordered the Fergburger, Ferg Deluxe Burgers, Salt and Pepper Squid and Ginger Beer. This place was so hectic due to how busy they are. Once you place your order, you are given a number and you watch the TV screen either inside or outside for your number then head in and pick up your food. On average, expect to wait 20-30 minutes to get your food. There are very limited inside and outdoor seating. You are better off taking it over to the lake and eating lakeside. The staff are all very nice despite the hectic atmosphere. When our number was finally called, my wife went inside to pick up our food, but was informed that they gave our order to someone else by accident, so they will have to remake our order. Unfortunately, I don't think they made our re-order a priority as it took about 30 more minutes before we finally got our food (so we waits probably at least 1 hour!). The manager was very apologetic about the mistake and did give us $40 in gift certificates plus an order of fries (probably one of the best tasting things on the menu) and an extra ginger beer. As for the food, I've had better burgers and better salt and pepper squid as the flavors tend to be a little more bland compared to American flavors, but the locals and other tourists seem to really love this place. With our gift certificates we decided to come back 2 days later and got the Sweet Bambi and the Sweet Julie burgers. The Sweet Bambi is made of deer, it was not gamy tasting, but was not all that flavorful. The Sweet Julie had a better flavor and my son liked it. My wife and other son opted to eat somewhere else. Overall, I wouldn't say this place warrants the hoards of people waiting to get a taste of their food, but it's not a bad place to eat if you are looking for a good selection of burgers. The price is fair for this area, similar to most tourist towns (reminds me of Lake Tahoe in the USA). read more

Terrific burger. We went at a non-prime time so there were lots of seats and we were very comfortable. Terrific flavor on the burger and it's very large. I'm a large guy and was full with just a single. One of the couples next to us both ordered doubled and neither ate much more than half of it because it's so huge. The place isn't very big so most people get their food to go and eat it outside. read more

Burger was worth the wait! We eventually lucked up and scored barstools before the food was ready but I sat next door at Ferg Bar and had a cocktail while the hubs waited in line to place the burger order. It's chaotic in there, so just be patient and don't count on landing a seat. I'd recommend eating it fresh- many people sat on a bench or stood and ate in the street. I'd recommend the onion rings rather than the fries. Go early or late to avoid the wait. read more

A spectacle of a hamburger,enormous and beautiful paired with a staff that handles the challenge of perpetual lines of people cuing up to order food with amazing performance. I ordered the double Fergburger with double cheese, brie, and onion rings. The onion rings were freshly made and just amazing, crunchy, hot, with a sweet onion completing the taste. The burger was very good and the Brie an unusual option. My only gripe is the burger patty could use a higher fat ratio 20% or more to make it more juicy and flavorful. I had heard much hype about this place way before arriving in Queenstown. Waiting for the bus for skydiving, we walked across the street to find only one person in line. While I had not intended to eat here due to the long lines, we couldn't resist with the short wait. It was a large, fresh and good hamburger - the cooked onions and tomato relish gave it its flavor. The bun was huge so we only ate half of it. All in all, it was a nice hamburger with a decent price, but not worth a long wait unless you just have spare time. I'm glad we got to go because it's a landmark. By the way, their bakery next-door has some excellent options, including a tiny chocolate caramel tart that was delicious, along with some good coffee for after your meal. read more
We came as group from Gate1, everyone wanted to try Mrs Ferg Burger since tour guide mentioned that the burger was on Lonely Planet. It was very popular with long line and there were not many seating so we took it back to eat it at hotel. The burger tasted very good and delicious, lived up to its reputation. There are also other interesting choices on the menu: lamb burgers, deer burgers. read more

This was a difficult 3 stars because its definitely a decent spot, but it was way too hyped up for me before I got here. Before I had even arrived in Auckland I had heard the hype around this place, so of course I had to try it. You walk up and the first thing you see is the super long line that almost goes half way down the street. We went all the way to end and waited and waited and waited. Luckily the wait wasnt as long as it could be (roughly 30-45 minutes). I ended up getting the Fergburger, Sweet Bambi, and the hokey pokey milkshake. After I left, i realized that they gave me the completely wrong milkshake so i had to go back. I ended up getting both the hokey pokey and stracciatella since they allowed me to keep the old one. They were both REALLY sweet. Now to the burgers. Both good, but nothing eye opening. The Fergburger was better than the Sweet Bambi because the boysenberry chutney was too sweet. The best part is the meat from the Ferburger as its definitely fresh and different than an American burger. Both had big fat buns which were a little unproportional. I walked away satisfied, but unimpressed. A day later, we decided to go back because my wife really wanted to try the fries. We ended up getting a side of fries, which were a combination of Mcdonalds and In-and-Out. Fries were good, but a little small for the price. We ended up also getting another burger just in case and ended up landing on the best one out of the three, the Bombay Chicken. I get that its not a beef patty, but man were the combinations good and the chicken juicy. I'm really glad i ended up getting that Bombay because it moved me up from 3 stars to 4. Overall, if you're in town, try it, just keep your expectations low and you might walk away pleasantly surprised. read more
Definitely a must eat if you visit Queenstown!! Best place to go to at nighttime if you're hungry and nothing else is open. I'd say the all of their burgers are great, you wouldn't make a mistake in choosing anything. Also comes in huge portions, especially the big ale burger. read more

If you are visiting Queenstown then there's almost no chance we haven't heard of Fergburger when googling what to eat and honestly the Internet does not lie. due to the pandemic the line at Fergburger is not as intense as used to be but there definitely still is a line. It has now got a lounge e bar a bakery and gelato store adjacent especially great choices if you are waiting in line for your burger. the ingredients of refresh in the burger is very very big so if you are preparing to go on a hike 4 super perfect because it can probably substitute 2 meals! I always end up ordering the Bambi burger and that is absolutely amazing but this time I decided to try something new and I figured out that they are awesome very very good at deep frying fish. If this is your first time and you cannot go wrong with their special deluxe! Highly Recommend!! read more

Incredible take on how the pork belly was cocked, went very well with the rest of the burger. The beef and blue cod were nice too but the pork belly was definitely the favorite. Lines are always long, but especially during Christmas season read more

Gigantic burgers full of flavor.. what more could you ask for?! These burgers were so tasty. I ordered the Southern Swine, which had delicious bacon, avocado, a giant beef patty, and this nice tomato relish that was a little bit sweet. The fries were also quite crispy and lightly salted. Also tried the wasabi mayonnaise. I'm not usually a huge fan of wasabi but the sauce had only a mild hint of wasabi so it was actually decent. Overall an amazing filling very large dinner that I would definitely recommend. read more

The only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is the seating and line situation. These burgers are amazing! I thought in and out burger was good, this surpassed all of my expectations. Great taste, fresh, cooked to order. The line may go down the sidewalk so thick that its hard for people to pass by. But, it is worth it. You order and then sit, mostly stand, and wait for your food to be prepared. The waitress staff is curt, but that might be due to the volume of people and fast turn over they have to deal with. The bathroom could be a bit cleaner. By far the worst part is very little seating. Along the wall are cushioned seating, but its very few. The burger itself is worth all the negatives, it's amazing! Beer is available in small servings. read more

I got the Sweet Bambi burger at Fergburger, which had wild fjordland deer meat as the patty. Props to them for offering this unique option and for a tasty burger. The burger also had some boysenberries in it, which added a touch of sweetness. Also, the brie cheese was a nice creamy complement to the rest of the burger. I don't know if I'd really rank this burger at the top of my burger list, but it was very solid and large. I went on a Wednesday afternoon and had to wait about half an hour including the line and waiting for my burger. The staff were very friendly. There is not much seating at the restaurant, especially considering the popularity of the place, though there are lots of places around the town to sit down and eat. Overall, Fergburger did live up to the hype as being one of the best burger places in New Zealand, though it didn't completely knock my socks off. Definitely give it a go though! read more
