In an age where almost everything can be ordered instantly online, places like this still play an essential role. Some issues require judgment and experience, not just a quick online search. The team here clearly knows their craft and is happy to share their expertise. What I especially value is their honesty. They never try to pressure you into buying unnecessary items. If they don't carry what you need, they'll tell you and often point you toward where to find it. Such confidence and integrity are rare. While large stores like Home Depot have vast inventories, for smaller or specialized items, especially related to older Center City homes, this store is often the better choice. Prices are fair, and the quality of guidance enhances the overall value. It's evident that this store is run with pride, care, and years of expertise. I called 10 Th St Hardware to see if I could with my receipt come in and get two more for the two that shouldn't have died within a week and they told me that it was not in the return policy to take back any plants to die I find this so unacceptable. They are seasonal potted flowers and there was no reason for them to die. There was also no reason not to exchange them. I will not be returning to 10th St. hardware because of their customer service.

The person who greeted us was definitely new and the other workers helped out as much as they could. I think it's a solid store. You can probably find anything you're looking for from kitchen stuff, plants, hammers, nails, even knife sharpening. I tried to sign up for their ace hardware program but it was unsuccessful linking my account and they had to take time finding the brochures to apply for a new account. Then it didn't work for the coupon, oh well. I think my knives will be sharp (6.99) per knife. They use the resharp machine that I'm a fan of. Perfect before thanksgiving!

Unlike a larger, unfriendly competitor down the street that was open slightly earlier, Lee's had exactly what I needed (a beautiful Moen kitchen faucet) PLUS a brilliant, patient, funny and fascinating proprietor who not only took time on a very busy pre-storm day to help me, he called and canvassed people (plumbers and staff working in local high rises who come in, they know what's good!) regarding my emergency issue. He knows everything about the neighborhood and his experience-- commercial and residential--is invaluable. Who provides this kind of service these days? Amazon? No!! Only Lee's! The store is a gem known to my family for years and I will never take it for granted.

Stanley's is the classic small business the neighborhood wants to keep in place for their needs big and small. I've been blessed that I haven't had too many emergencies in my house but knowing a Stanley's run can be done quick sets my mind at ease. Last week they went above and beyond, clearly deserving of media mention. Last summer I purchased a Weber Grill. I immediately had an issue with the casters not working. I called Ernie who dispatched his crew to retrieve the grill and try to fix it. It was missing many screws and one of the casters had fallen off. The crew brought back the grill, supposedly fixed but I have had difficulty with the same casters since last year. They will lock in place, and not stay unlocked thus making it almost impossible to move my grill. Finally, last week one of the casters just broke off entirely. This was two days before my July Fourth cookout. I called Ernie back and he immediately remembered me and dispatched another crew to assess the situation . When the crew arrived, they realized they would again have to take the grill back to the shop. A few hours later I got a call from Mike asking me if I wanted to have the repair done by Weber under the warranty or if I wanted them to try to put on new casters. I told them to put on universal casters because I did not want the same casters from Weber. A few hours later I got a call from Mike telling me the repair was complete and could they drop off the grill. I said sure and how much did I owe them. I was then informed I didn't owe them anything. I cannot thank them enough. I especially want to shout out Ernie, Mike and the owners , Mark and Alex Jaconski who run an exceptional business.
