Yes some are good but most of them are horrible. While everyone were in class doing their things, in our class you had to stand in a line for at least 5 minutes before the teacher came and took attendance. Many bullies there too. I did not get bullied but saw others getting bullied all the time. Staff do not care about your health or mental state. I think I saw one teacher playing video games on class period. Whatever happens ask your kids and change their classes if they don't like them

Police was called school police and they did nothing! My son was jumped in class and there was video which I gave them because it was on social media and still Mrs welsh did nothing. They wanted to file an investigation when they had all the proof and they did nothing! My son was in fear to go back and they wanted him to attended and have him walk to the guidance office for lunch when he was being bullied in his PE! Like what kind of BS is that. Parents be aware that before the year starts in that packet you get for emergency contacts and such there is a paper that you sign that says any bullying fighting media bullying or any negative conduct against another student will lead to suspension or expulsion! LAUSD has every parent sign this fight for your child and their safety because this school here does not care about that they care about the money that goes in their pocket by the heads that are present at school it doesn't matter if they fail or pass take them to any other school but this one

You feel it the minute you walk on campus. The principal sets such a positive tone, and it trickles down through every part of the school. Teachers and staff know every child by name, and that kind of connection really sets Laurel Hall apart. Class sizes are small, which means our child gets personalized attention and are really seen not just another face in the crowd. It offers that classic, traditional school experience you might expect in a small town, but it's right here in the heart of the Valley. Yes, it's a private school and tuition isn't nothing- but compared to others in LA, it's very reasonable for what you get. We also weren't sure how we'd feel about the church affiliation going in, but honestly, it's light and sweet. Think Christmas songs and mostly the focus on kindness and compassion (with a little Jesus sprinkled in). Nothing heavy-handed at all. We feel so lucky to have found Laurel Hall. Our kids are thriving, and we genuinely love being part of this school community.

It's great that it includes both middle and high school with a relatively small number of students, so everyone knows each other. There is no bullying, and there is a real sense of safety and responsibility. The teaching staff is excellent, and parents are actively involved in the life of the school and support its events and activities. I truly hope that Mr. Rosenthal remains the principal and that the school continues to thrive.

The program is highly rigorous and challenging (all students in the program are studying at highly advanced levels for science and math). The homework load can be overwhelming at times but there is a terrific support network to ensure that students stay on track. Our son has made great friends and loves his teachers. The academics are top notch. For the second consecutive year, The Science Academy was the number one school in the state of California with the highest scores among grades 6 through 8 in English, math and the English and math combination. For kids who love math and science and are up for the challenge, this is one of the best school options in LA.

But as a Black family, our list was more layered with the awakening that the world witnessed. The pandemic added additional complexity to our anxiety, but Oakwood has been a dream come true for our family in alleviating all worries we had. The community of families is kind and down-to-earth. The teachers are responsive and committed. This school is well-run and culturally in tune, and everyone goes above and beyond. My son needed to be picked up one day early from school and was unhappy about leaving friends mid-morning. That evening, I got a call from his teacher offering to come to our house (pretty far away) to bring him his items to ensure he was okay (Completely Unnecessary, but the offer meant the world and demonstrated how much she cared.) Honestly, the only complaint is that our son wants to stay at school way too long and has asked us to "fall back." This week, the only tears were when we picked him up ON TIME instead of allowing him to go to after-care! His maturity and growth spurt are selfishly bittersweet, but I am proud to have a front-row seat in watching his love of learning cemented on these grounds. It is a magical, empowering place that has already been the fabric of countless unforgettable memories.
