It's too bad that the school decided to disable their yelp reviews because people deserve to know the truth about what they are signing up for when they attend. 1. The school is not college preparatory enough therefore I had to leave 2. When the staff knew that I was leaving summit view to attend a public school, they treated me with annimosity and told me that I would likely be back there 3. Miss Rios for Spanish teacher is a horrible teacher and so is Mr.Antoni for science. A lot of the teachers were lazy and bad at their job. They did not help the students suceed. Really hated this school. Should've never gone to it. The teachers like the Spanish teacher is super bad and I left the school because I feared that the education was not college preparatory enough. There was no way to really grow or excel in my education, socializing with people at the school was bad. A lot of bullying was going on behind the scenes. Someone else here added a review about help group therapists being bad and I couldn't agree more. My therapist also violated confidentiality and angered me. The school is also super small so the opportunities you can get in a public school or even smaller charter school will be a lot better. Due to this school I was held back a yr in sixth grade which continues to impact me as a college student now. read more

As a student here for 4 years with ADHD I personally didn't like it very much here at this school, although "grad nite" or the "Europe trip" are worth it they're only senior activities. I've been wanting to write a review for this school of mine for years. Some of the teachers like the Spanish teacher , who didn't know how to teach Spanish 1,2,3 AT ALL, in the correct way which is SPOKEN out loud in class, not being given papers to write down the grammar of it while just memorizing vocabulary every week, pathetic teaching. Should honestly be working elsewhere. How about not giving access to the High school boys bathrooms when the person who obviously made holes in the wall was known?, I was a 17-18 year old asking a Teacher assistant (younger adult) "can I use the restroom" or "can you take me to the restroom." Honestly when you go to college you'll remember this and how it feels to know you're finally the boss on your own bladder. Socially the school is also filled with very nice friendly kids, but it's not enough, I must say it's too small and coming here is DEFINITELY a big mistake for a kid that' thrives in social environments, you're still able to, but because of the lack of students in each grade, it makes very necessary To have friends outside of school, or it's every Saturday/Friday night at home. I genuinely felt being here was a prison not physically but mentally. I personally have nothing against getting a degree or going to school but this school made me hate school more than I ever have until I graduated from here. Not all but once again the teachers like the Spanish teacher, or even a some of the TA's with big mouths who didn't know there place. I felt mistreated or less as student. Lastly, I will say I did get good help with assignments from teachers the school does a excellent job at helping students out with their work, but mentally if you're a parent reading this, take in consideration to what you just read If you made it here. My Son has been going here since Septmeber 2017- AMAZING results. He finally knows what is going on, and understands things. ADHD is his learning disability. I find that all the teacher care about their students. The classroom setting is small, so they get extra attention. What I REALLY like is ALL TEACHER WORK TOGETHER AS A TEAM for your child. My son is in his second year at Summit View. It is an excellent school and it is really giving him the tools that he needs for the future. Summit View has excellent teachers that are able to teach my son and give him clarity. My son is finally understanding what is being taught and he is able to do his homework independently. This is giving him tremendous confidence in himself and making him feel capable in everything he does. Prior to attending Summit View my son had a lot of anxiety and he felt that he was stupid. He didn't understand what was taught like the others kids around him. It was destroying him as a person. Even with extra support, my son felt emotionally and academically defeated. My daughter is a new student here. I am seeing her grow in leaps and bounds here. All of her needs are being addressed. Small class sizes. Everyone here is so nice. My daughter leaves there everyday saying to me "I really like it here Mommy". There is no bullying. The kids seem to support each other. Great little community! read more

I was placed in Summit View in the 8th grade and graduated in 2014. I applied to several colleges and universities, mostly Liberal Arts Colleges, and I entered college the Fall immediately after I graduated. I applied to and was accepted into my Number 1 Choice, Pitzer College. In the second semester of the Junior Year of my undergraduate studies, I was accepted into the Accelerated Degree program at Claremont Graduate University (one of the Claremont University Consortium graduate institutions) and began concurrent graduate study in the School of Educational Studies. I completed my Bachelor's degree in Environmental Analysis (Sustainability and the Built Environment) from Pitzer College in 2018. I am currently in the final year of my graduate studies in Community-Engaged Education & Social Change at Claremont Graduate University. I say all this because, from the moment I entered Summit View School, I knew that I was college-bound, and I knew that it would be very important that I receive a good education while I was there. Like most things, there were both pros and cons to going with Summit View. However, the good most definitely outweighed the bad. All in all, the things that I found to be problematic can be (or possibly have been) addressed with proper time and attention. While I was there, I felt as if Summit View could have done a better job of raising expectations academically for their students. There were not many enrichment options for academically gifted students, so it was not uncommon for 2e students to find themselves bored or unchallenged (which also resulted in behavioral issues arising). There were times when I was told that I wouldn't be able to do something or couldn't achieve something - like get into Pitzer College. On a similar note, it would've been great if more Honors and/or AP classes were offered for people who want the additional challenge and/or honors credits (I was able to transfer in Honors credits from Virtual High School). For the most part, the teachers had an incredible understanding of students and their learning differences, which was great. There were a handful of teachers who were neither ready, willing, nor capable of providing appropriate supports to students with special needs, which made life at Summit View very frustrating sometimes. It is, after all, a school for students with mild to moderate Learning Differences. The small setting and individualized attention from teachers was incredibly helpful to my learning experience and growth. It not only helped me excel in middle/high school, but also the small class sizes became a factor in the colleges I ended up applying to. Summit View is home to some of the greatest, most patient and compassionate teachers/people I have ever met (shoutout to people like Mr. Kaylor, Mrs. Shrode, Mr. Ramirez, Coach T. and Mrs. Mobley, to name a few). Faculty like them go above and beyond to make sure that you are learning and growing as a scholar. More importantly, they seem interested in making sure you actually enjoy learning. I did want to say a few things about KERI BORZELLO. While I never got to experience Keri as a Headmaster, I do know how awesome she is. I have had the great fortune of working with her on various projects as an alumna, including efforts designed to organize Alumni events. While my experience at Summit View was not perfect, I don't think that any high school experience would be. It was certainly ten times better than the experience I likely would have had in a setting where my learning difference would not have been understood or supported. I was also able to make friends and build connections with faculty that continue to provide support and guidance to this day. read more

A waste of my 3 years; my child never thrived and has a mild learning disability, the environment of the school does not provide a safe or secure social setting and the school is protecting bullies and not they bullied. It's a concentrated environment of kids with emotional issues that run the gamut and are not managed effectively or appropriately. I believe this caused a level of toxic stress in my child and regret ever sending my child there. read more

I'm a big fan of this excellent school: my kid has been at the school since elementary and is now heading to high school: the teachers help your child thrive, and teach them to advocate for what they need in the future...the elementary teachers, esp Mrs Studer and Ms Parry are very skilled, and if there are any issues which need addressing they encourage families to seek solutions, and are very supportive...this school is a gift read more

I went here from 9th-12th grade. The teachers here are excellent. I never had a bad teacher here. They were my favorite aspect of this school. I never hesitated to ask for help if I didn't understand the material, because I knew they would help me in till I grasped the concept. In 12th grade I enjoyed being able to go off campus for lunch any day of the week. In 10th and 11th you can go off campus to the Mc Donalds, Que Rico, Subway, Starbucks, Burger King, and anything else you can find within walking distance 2 times a week (If I remember correctly) The school often brings different performers to entertain the whole school in the auditorium. read more

My son started at Summit View in 8th grade. Its been a great experience for him. He's had significant improvement in his academics over the last two years.
