I ended up finding Linea D di Re Piero, and it was perfect. The location is fine - a 10 minute walk outside the Porto Sant' Anna, the westernmost gate of the walled city. Easy to find with Google Maps. They didn't speak any Italian but they are great at sign language, plus I spoke just enough Italian to express myself. Just in case, I showed a selfie on my phone that showed what I wanted and he said a photo is the perfect way to show what I want. They were extremely polite and friendly and modest and he did a perfect job. The prices are posted on a sheet in the waiting area. I went Saturday morning at 9:30 or 10 and didn't have to wait long. My haircut was 13 euros - perfect as far as I am concerned. They didn't expect a tip. So if you are in Lucca and don't speak Italian and don't mind just a little bit of an adventure, come here! NOTE: the Yelp map seems to have the location wrong by a half a block - use Google Maps.

We loved stopping into this small supermarket in Lucca during our recent stay. It was the perfect…read morespot to pick up a few items that we wanted to have in our hotel room like wine, Italian beer and big bottles of water. It was clearly a shopping spot for the locals and I loved that I almost never encountered a cashier who spoke much English. My intent during this trip was to practice my spoken Italian as much as possible and I was able to that here. The staff was friendly, accommodating and helpful. While Lucca boasts many small food shops and exquisite salumerie, there are times that a little supermarket like this fits the bill. The wine and beer selection was quite good. What was really impressive was the bottled water section. There were dozens and dozens of different types of "acqua minerale" con gassata or senza gassata...with or without carbonation. Italians take their mineral water seriously. There was the usual array of supermarket fare here, packaged meats, personal products, deli selections, cleaning products, canned goods, etc. If you had an apartment here, this would be one of your routine places to go. It was nice to have had this shop as an option for the few items we needed.

It was tough to find unique stores that weren't hocking the same old thing. During a visit to Lucca I was thrilled to find this shop where I met the owner/talented artist, Alessandro. No, I'm not suddenly into Harley Davidsons, skulls, daggers, grenades, or even winged hearts, what I am into is ART! Beautiful handcrafted original wearable art. Upon first look you might only see the outlaw vibe, look further and discover the hidden gems that I fell in love with. I love silver jewelry, add some ebony, a ruby, or an interesting design and I'm going to take a look. I stepped through the doors and spent the next 30 minutes oohing, aahing and chatting about Italy, Los Angeles, Portland, the world, grown up kids and creativity. I fell in love with a female face carved in ebony and set in a ring designed with silver flowing hair. I didn't even try it on because it just wouldn't look good on me but if it was a pendant hanging on a silver chain she would have been mine. Instead, I selected a simple bracelet to grace my wrist. I will always have just a tiny bit of Lucca and Alessandro with me wherever my travels take me. I highly recommend you visit too.

Lucca a pretty historic town. Full of interesting sights. And one of the things to do is walking…read morethe streets. Lucca has lots of nice walking and shopping lanes. And this here is one of the most famous ones. All the big brands are here (like Timberland, Max Mara, Kiko, Guess, Douglas, Foot Locker, Swatch etc.). But even you're not into shopping you shouldn't miss out on this street. It's a nice little walk, passing the Torre Delle Ore. It goes from the Piazza San Michele up to the beautiful Anfiteatro. And just for that alone it's worth having a walk here. There are quite some interesting independent/local shops here as well.
