We loved stopping into this small supermarket in Lucca during our recent stay. It was the perfect spot to pick up a few items that we wanted to have in our hotel room like wine, Italian beer and big bottles of water.
It was clearly a shopping spot for the locals and I loved that I almost never encountered a cashier who spoke much English.
My intent during this trip was to practice my spoken Italian as much as possible and I was able to that here. The staff was friendly, accommodating and helpful.
While Lucca boasts many small food shops and exquisite salumerie, there are times that a little supermarket like this fits the bill.
The wine and beer selection was quite good.
What was really impressive was the bottled water section. There were dozens and dozens of different types of "acqua minerale" con gassata or senza gassata...with or without carbonation. Italians take their mineral water seriously.
There was the usual array of supermarket fare here, packaged meats, personal products, deli selections, cleaning products, canned goods, etc. If you had an apartment here, this would be one of your routine places to go.
