I do wish that people respected the lakefront more. The only place in the state park that I found litter was on the lakefront/beach area where day guests come. The park rangers stated they are hosting a cleanup day on Earth Day for the beach/lakefront. I hope that future guests will keep it clean because the views are just beautiful!

There as well appeared to be a 4 wheeling area at the base of the dam. It seemed like a nice area just to chill if you wanted to drive up and admire the impressive infrarestructure they have created. The energy plant is nearby. I am sure at night this would be a nice place to take pictures. I don't know if I'll go out of my way to see this but if you're in the area doesn't hurt to drop by and check it out if you've never seen it before.

Running by the water, count me IN!…read more I couldn't capture the beauty of running here if I wanted to. This water...this art...this nature....this ambiance is so motivating. It felt soothing, peaceful. It's so RAW..... The trail connects to Midland Valley Trail, Maple Park, and The Gathering Place. Acres and acres of trail - yeeeessssss Bring water or hydration if you plan to go far. There are water points but i find them to be spread out too far (if you are going far). i'd gone to the park location, along the arkansas river, to meet with a priest from the home parish…read morewhere i've been going to church. the weather on the late afternoon we went was quite beautiful, with a temperature in the 60s to 70s, a mildly cloudy, sunny sky, and frequent breezing wind. the last part of that description was especially welcome on that afternoon, as i'd given the priest a kite on which i'd written sentences from a book we discussed previously and on that afternoon, &demon copperhead& by barbara kingsolver, in which a mentor figure shares with the protagonist a practice of honoring an author of a book he has read by writing sentences from the book on a kite. however, the irony of me imitating the practice from the book, is that while the priest with whom i'd met provides opportunity for open, back and forth conversation, i very much consider him the mentor in our relationship, and by giving him the kite with sentences on it, i was equally, if not moreso, soliciting advice than offering it. and the breezing winds on that specific afternoon allowed us to put the kite in the air, and walk and run with it while sharing casual, though memorable, conversation, and each of us succeeded in avoiding with the kite the many trees in the park, and also the large amount of geese, native to the riverbank area.

got there and checked if the bathroom was open to use, and it was when i arrived, a bit before…read more10pm. the door is not closing all the way, as it was the last time i'd used the bathroom, though the tp stuffed into the hole where the door latch would normally be helps. nonetheless, the primary reason i'd gone to the river late at night, is more for the platform to commit to running in the upcoming firecracker 5k race on riverside. and although the 5k, from what i've understood, is further up the river, near 21st, it is a fitting location for making such a commitment because the pavilion at 41st & riverside is the favorite spot of mine for beginning a run, especially a long run, because of factors like an open stretching area and bathroom that stays open, no pun intended. further, i'm of the belief that a announcement of intention to train for a race is necessary for me because of a personal commitment to recording any training run on the strava app, and the tension from wanting to begin training and the app monthly fee not in budget for me is a reminder that a commitment not serving you is one worth reflection as to a alternative.
