Specialties
We make durable, weatherproof Fiberspan Concrete Vigas and Canales. Our innovative architectural components hold up to the elements without decaying or deteriorating like the wood vigas and canales. Our vigas are molded from wood so they look exactly like wood. We have tradtional style canales/scuppers (roof drains) as well as contemporary styles. They are extremely strong made with a CSA cement with layers of embedded fiberspan mesh for added strength.
History
Established in 2007.
Phil and his wife Kellie moved from Sedona to Santa Fe, New Mexico, the nexus of Santa Fe/Pueblo architecture, to expand their business. Once in Santa Fe, they saw that there was even a greater need for a better solution to their problems with canales (scupper roof drains). Historically the flat roof drains were made of wood which over a few years would rot and create damage to the roof and walls, they tried to remedy that with a sheet metal lining which helped some, but eventually the water seeped under the canale (scupper) causing extensive and costly damage. Phil and Kellie met with contractors, architects and building inspectors from the city to study the issues and to come up with a viable solution, and as a result, engineered a durable Fiberspan Concrete Canale unlike anything the Southwest has ever seen. Not only did it exceed the traditional canales in it's durability, but he created a design that wrapped around the parapet and protected the roof and walls.
Meet the Business Owner: Phil B.
Since his late teens, Phil Bigelow has been an entrepreneur. He started his career owning and operating a pool plastering business, later growing his business into a commercial and large residential contracting business in the Phoenix Metro area. Phil Bigelow put all of his energy into building a beautiful custom Santa Fe/Pueblo style home in the Verde Valley. This is when his idea of Fiberspan Concrete Vigas was born. In designing his home, he wanted the authentic look of wood viga accents and headers, but did not want the hassle and maintenance of caring for the wood. He wanted a more permanent solution. So in his garage, surrounded by his mold making materials and tools, he began creating his custom viga tails for his home. Local builders and craftsmen who were helping him with his house were so impressed, people began requesting orders. At this point, Phil Bigelow continued to hone his skills, perfect his method and create his new business Fiberspan Concrete Vigas.
